How to unlock the Factory Zero achievement in Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Definitive Guide

This is an excellent playthrough video by prenatual I found on YouTube. All credit goes to him.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v...

Description:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The Missing Link. Factory Zero playthrough.

Perfect ghosting (no enemies alerted). No take-downs (except "the boss room"), no aug upgrades, no weapons, no items (except quest-related). 'Give me Deus Ex' difficulty. 9/10 achievements earned (except That Old Adage, which requires CASIE aug).

Great solution. Just keep in mind that the creator seems to have done somewhat of a speedrun (at least in some places), and things like jumping off a high ledge and crouching 3meters above the ground while landing on a box you dropped just before jumping can be very difficult to do, the general path still works.

Also, even though the video doesnt show you getting the last achievement "That Old Adage", it tells you when to save and how to go about getting it.

Thumbs up!

awesome video... the guy is using a PC though so there are some things he can do easier than we can...

I'm having trouble around the 1:07:40 mark... somehow he's managing to "roll" the crate in front of him so as to not set off the turret. I can't figure out how he's doing this. If anyone has any advice for this part, I'm interested.

To "roll" the crate, do this. Face the turret, and hold left, while tapping X. Jensen will keep dropping and picking up the crate. To hide behind it, just hold LT.

Yes, I believe that's right. The only thing I didn't do was kill anybody, but there were plenty of alerts or hostiles I ran from, while still earning Factory Zero at the end.

Remember - Do NOT press right trigger when your weapon is holstered! Pressing the RT counts as firing your gun and it voids the achievement !!

This solution isn't quite accurate. I got it on 'give me a challenge difficulty and I used a few pro energy bars and TONS of take-downs

I dont used your Guide until i need to get Burkes office, but i dont hacked the Door like you. After searching for hours finaly found a other (better) solution: http://youtu.be/ad4wUaMPaWA

And you may add that you can be detected, the alarm can be turn on and shot, you still get the achievement as long you dont you any Praxis kits, weapons, or explosives

So I just did this twice. It didn't pop... Twice. I don't shoot, I don't use grenades, I only subdue the guys near Burke and follow the guide almost completely. I haven't upgraded any praxis. And still no achievement. I have picked up ammo and grenades but never used them. (Weapon even shows 0/110 because it still needs reloading. Is there anyway this can become glitched? I'm playing the Directors cut edition if that makes any difference.

This is just to clear up all the confusion once and for all. After personally testing and unlocking this achievement multiple times now, here is what I've 100% confirmed. When going for this achievement you CAN:

- Use Takedowns to knock out enemies (cn_B)
- Pick up the Praxis Kits after locating Jensen's gear
- Pick up weapons and items
- Reload weapons
- Use consumables (cyberboost bars, etc.) to replenish health and battery cells
- Be spotted by hostile enemies or cameras (though you'll have an easier time if you avoid this)

However, performing any of the following actions will void this achievement:
- Pressing cn_RT while having any type of gun drawn
- Throwing grenades or any types of explosives (cn_RB)
- Actually assigning praxis points to Jensen to upgrade augmentations

With all this being acknowledged, this is actually a very easy achievement with save spamming and using vents to get around. By looking around for a hatch with a nearby panel, you can use the 5768 code on the Admin Cable Duct Access which can lead you to Burke's office to easily snag the prosthetic eyes. In fact, you can knock out all the DLC achievements in one playthrough simply by creating save states at certain sections then reloading accordingly to prevent two of the achievements from voiding Factory Zero (e.g shooting a weapon to save everyone from being gassed, upgrading social augment for "That Old Adage"). Granted, as mentioned above, there are other ways to break open the green gas tank so this was all merely a suggestion.

As the achievement dialogue states, you cannot use any weapon, grenade, or use any praxis points.

This means you can't utilize the points you earn by gaining levels EITHER. You need to do the entire DLC with the stock enhancements they provide. Just take your time, save often, and explore a lot. You'll be crawling through a lot of air ducts and scrounging for pocket secretaries a lot, since you won't be able to hack anything above level 1. Make sure you take down as many guards as you can - quite a few of them have pocket secretaries on them.

I would also recommend not even picking up any weapons, grenades or praxis kits. Just remove the chance for an accident and/or temptation. When you first get your gear back, there are two boxes on the floor - one for praxis kits (7) and another for guns. Don't open either one.

Good luck!

God damnit, the description should say "no Praxis points, or kits" because it makes u you assume you can use Praxis points from leveling up, just not Praxis kits. Thanks for this, I'll be doing it again super patient now that I know.

Yeah, it is poorly worded.

I'd also recommend saving at the point where you need to make a choice (you'll know when it is). After you get this achievement you can go back to that save, spend some of your praxis points (since you already got this one) and do the "All of the above", "apex predator", "back stage pass", and "That old adage" achievements. Three of those need specific enhancements to even be accomplished.

All of the above is achieved by saving both groups (instead of choosing). There is a great YouTube video of it that shows the patch and what enhancements you'll need. The old adage is done by talking to the final guy (before the VERY end) and using the CASIE speech augment on him.

I don't think the description is that bad, I think it's fine. Just common sense really, I got this on my first playthrough with all the secret achievements I also played it on the hardest difficulty hoping one of that one of them was for difficulty. Also I managed to get Apex Predator without any augs.

i've picked up weapons and granades (and praxis kits) but i never used them and still popped for me. I recommend that you always have at hand a weapon for the All of The Above achievement, for a one-playthrough run in which u can save, do the action requested with a weapon or praxis, then reload and continue workin for Factory Zero.

I upgraded weapons and would pull them out and load more ammo, but never fired. I'm going to try again and not pick up anything since i know have all the other achievements.

There are two thing not listed that may interfere with this achievement. Reloading a weapon (ex. I picked up a sniper rifle and never fired it but I did reload.) and throwing containers (I used a thrown fire extinguisher as a distraction). I didn't get this at first but I reloaded an older save and made sure not to do either of those things and I got the achievement.

Is it okay to have a gun equipped and reloaded as long as you don't fire it? I've picked up a 10mm and a Shotgun but I haven't fired them yet. I hope I don't lose credit for this achievement. I also picked up the Praxis kits and Grenades but haven't used them either.

By ICoN xLeViAtHaN on 16 Jun 2012 19:55
I can confirm that you cannot throw barrels. On my second playthrough I picked one up in the room with the cracked wall thinking it was the only way into where i needed to be. But i was getting shot at so i threw it at a guard. It blew up in mid air. It knocked the wall down but didn't kill me or the guard. It did however void the achievement.

I can also confirm that you CANNOT throw barrels. I went through the whole game not firing a single shot , not throwing a single mine/grenade, not upgrading and didn't get this achievo in the end. The only thing I can remember is throwing that damned barrel to trigger an enemy mine.

Just got it, and I can confirm that just holding, or even reloading a weapon will not void the achievement.

So no, people saying you cannot reload a gun are incorrect, as I reloaded both the Stun Gun and Tranquilizer Rifle, but never fired either.

Unless the requirements were changed in the Director's Cut. I was fully expecting to have to do another Missing Link run, as many people said just reloading a weapon would void the achievement.

If LegendaryMSN had no trouble getting this and all of the other secret achievements first time on the hardest setting; then why would he be looking on this guide on TA. What a twat, like anybody believes him.

I would like to confirm that I did not use any praxis points, used no weapons or explosives of any kind and did not get the achievement - I did pick up weapons, ammo, grenades etc. to sell for energy bars. I would doubly recommend not to pick those items up.

I can confirm that it's ok to pick up Praxis kits as long as you don't use them.

I had like 18 right before the " takedown burke without being spotted" cheevo, saved, upgraded stealth and energy, got the achievement, reloaded the save and got him without any augmentations and at the end, I still unlocked "factory Zero".

I did not carry any weapons or grenades, though. So I can't confirm if it matters for the achievement.
Only used one (a sniper rifle, first I found nearby) for when you have to save both the doctor and the prisoners, but as above, I saved and then reloaded to prevent losing the cheevo.

Nah, it's not bugged. It's RELOADING A WEAPON that will null this achievement. I accidentally reloaded a weapon when trying to pick up a crate (twice I did this). It's best not to pick up ANY guns. When you're going for the achievement where you save both parties, don't worry, there are PLENTY of guns in the area (as long as you knock someone out) to pick up and use. Just don't forget to save right before so you can reload once you pop the achievement. Now I have to run through this damn DLC again just to pop this dumb achievement.

I completed the entire add on including all achievements on easy setting in 8 hours, its actually pretty easy as long as you use stealth to your advantage remembering you only have 2 energy bars and only single takedowns so if your up against 2 guys either avoid them or take 1 out and hide till your bar fills up if you had just 1 bar to begin with.

You can use pro energy bars, painkillers as much as you like just dont use weapons, praxis kits or grenades..

If like me your going for the clean sweep in 1 run make use of save points you only need to use a weapon once in the entire add on to blast the cylinder to save both the prisoners and the scientist so make a save point use the weapon get the achievement and revert back to the save point and then choose 1 or the other.

Dont even bother picking up grenades and when you visit the store only purchase what you need i.e pro energy bars, etc..

Drop all weapons you may pick up and never have them equipped and this achievement will be a breeze.

You can set off alarms it doesnt have anything to do with the achievement just dont touch your Praxis Kits and if you have to for another achievement make sure you have a save point to go back and continue with, Foxiest Of Hounds is a completely different achievement and only for single player campaign not DLC...

No Praxis Kits, No Explosives, Weapons so stealth is the best way to go and of course hand to hand combat.

I just beat this after 4-5 hours slowly going through - never used a kit, fired a weapon, or used a grenade once except for when I needed to for an achievement, and each time I saved and then reverted. At the end, the achievement did not pop. I'm pretty irate.

The only thing I can think is I disabled a mine near the end, and I got hit by an emp mine too (but didn't of course "use" it)

If you have no weapon, and accidentally pick one up, the default action is to equip it and put it in your hands. I am not certain if that negates the achievement, but when this happened to me I reverted to a previous save.

I got this in one playthrough as well as everything else. Easy enough, but there was a lot of backtracking - far more than I had anticipated.

That's not right, unless they patched something. You can go through the DLC without firing a gun, but reloading one (and possibly even just equipping one) WILL void the achievement. I ran though it and never fired but didn't get the achievement. Did my next runthrough without picking up any guns just to be safe and it popped.

There seem to be alternate solutions to getting every hidden achievement except the one where you need the CASSIE mod. This includes being able to stop the gas without a gun, and getting to the place where you were found without upgrades, by using boxes.

I can also confirm that equipping a gun doesn't void the achievement. And picking up a gun will equip it. I was initially worried, because it does a little "clicking" sound like you're reloading it automatically, but that's not the case. I carried around grenades and guns and even equipped them, but (a) never hit X to reload with one equipped, and (b) never fired a shot. That also includes non-lethal weapons like the stun gun, which I assume would also void the achievement.

As was said, though if you drop those things, you won't do anything by accident. But don't worry if you picked up a gun and equipped it. Just so longer as you didn't fire -- and, as others have said, reloaded.

A truly infuriating (I won't express just how much here because it would only descend into a string of vehement profanity and I don't want to annoy the moderators) and badly programmed achievement. It's clearly scripted off a trigger press merely by having a weapon picked up and selected, meaning even if your gun never fires or a grenade never gets thrown, you can still lose. Lazy and aggravating.

It doesn't register whether you use items/weapons, but whether you UNHOLSTER them. I never fired once on my first playthrough, nor did I throw any grenades.

Obviously I was used to picking up any items I found as is standard in Deus Ex so did that but made sure not to use them. Did all the stealth stuff elegantly, thought I did really well but NOPE. *quiet seething* As if the missing textures etc. on Xbox One backwards compatibility aren't galling enough.....

Anyway in case anyone's in the same position (my sympathies): I managed to get it by just putting the game on the lowest difficulty, being careful not to pick ANY weapons or grenades up, checking my inventory regularly, cheesing as much as possible, running, sponging a lot of bullets, getting angry at the references to my lack of stealth (I WONDER WHY), and using the game's own dumb enemy AI against it. Then it unlocked at the end. It can still take about an hour and a half from dying and reloading but it's a hell of a lot quicker than stealthing it.

I'll strongly reiterate that health and energy consumables are also fine as others have said.

REALLY not how I like to game but like hell was I gonna do it properly again and it took way less time.

Hope this helps.

PS. If you haven't got all the achievements yet, save regularly, so you can revisit a couple of relevant stages. Personally I was laser focused on getting this one first but luckily two of the remaining ones are very close to the end, literally just before the last section.

I will post an incredible video guide that I used to obtain all the trophies is one playthrough. (Well technically you can only get 9 of them, but if you reload your final save you can get the final trophy)

All credit goes to prenatual.

A list of things you will want to take into account:

  • Do NOT use any praxis points to upgrade your augmentations.
  • Do NOT fire a weapon or use an explosive.
  • You CAN pick up a weapon or explosive.
  • Stealth and takedowns are key.

You will want to stealth your way through this DLC to get the achievement. Getting into gunfights isn't a good idea, because obviously, you can't use guns. You're limited to level 1 hacks ONLY, you can only takedown 1 enemy at a time, and you will have to wait the maximum amount of time for your energy to restore so you can use more takedowns.

This achievement may seem daunting, but if you approach it right, it isn't too bad.

Just as the description says: do not upgrade any augments (use Praxis kits), use any weapons or toss any explosives (mines or grenades; explosive barrels, if thrown, do not count wink).

This DLC does not take that long, and honestly, is not that difficult. If you do not feel confident breezing through this mission without any handy augments, then play on the easiest difficulty.

Stealth is key here, as well as exploring the areas thoroughly. You won't have the abilities upgraded, such as hacking, so anything above a Level 1 will be off limits UNLESS you can find an alternate route (and they exist). Also, leaving enemies alone OR dealing with them one at a time will make things much, much easier for you since you only have 2 fuel cells, and no upgrades on how quickly the first one regens. roll

DO NOT PICK UP ANY WEAPONS AT ALL. Seriously, just leave them where they lay. Do not even give yourself the opportunity to make an error and put a gun in your hands. If you want to sell the guns, I say do not worry about it - there are plenty of pain killers, energy bars and hypostims laying around so you literally will not need to buy anything.

If you get stuck in an area, and can not seem to find a route around a secure door or laser grid, then refer to the below articles; there are some keycodes and passwords for SOME, not all, of the doors/terminals:

Keycodes:

Highly Missable! You must complete The Missing Link without using any Praxis kits, weapons, or explosives. Check out the Factory Zero section in the roadmap for more information. If you need a guide, checkout the complete Video Walkthrough.

To receive this trophy you must:

- NEVER use PRAXIS upgrade points, whether taken from the map, received as bonuses for completing quests, or received when leveling up;

- do not use any weapons, including non-lethal ones;

- DO NOT perform lethal neutralizations (for these you need to use the blades built into the elbows, which apparently counts as using implants);

- do not throw grenades, mines and other special equipment.

I’m not sure about products that increase health, energy levels and other benefits. I personally ran with empty equipment, so I didn’t use anything.

Don't scare people!

1. Used praxis with preliminary preservation.

2. Used weapons a couple of times, not on people, with preliminary saving.

3. I killed several people with my hands and didn’t even bother to overload.

They gave us the trophy at the end.

It is necessary and sufficient not to use equipment from the inventory and pump in praxis points. You can kill and stun everyone and everything, as well as activate the alarm.

Using energy bars has no effect either. You can also easily select weapons, mines, grenades and combine them, pull them out of the “holster”, but under no circumstances shoot. Checked personally.
On foreign sites they write that using a stun pistol does not reset the trophy, but I’m not sure about something.

ATTENTION! For those who will try to open all the trophies in one playthrough: using Praxis or Inventory, even with a preliminary save, will block the Factory Zero trophy. Tested the hard way

It is necessary to completely abandon weapons and improvements (this is possible), and in the case of KASI at the end of the game, use it through saving, after receiving the Factory Zero trophy.

This walkthrough helped a lot:

It’s quite difficult, but you can never turn on the alarm or light up.

Plus it shows how to get all the other Missing Link trophies in one playthrough.
