How to unlock the Talion A.D. achievement in Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Definitive Guide

The second time you are on Hengsha Island, Pritchard will call you about faulty biochips in all augs. As the conversation goes, there will be mention of going to a L.I.M.B. clinic to have it replaced. If you choose to go and get the surgery afterwards you can get the mission from Dr. Wing who is standing by the surgery door. As you approach him he will ask if you are Mr. Jensen. He will ask you to go after an ex-soldier who is augmented named Zelazny.

Edit: Getting the surgery is not a requirement for Dr. Wing speaking to you.

The first part of the mission will take you to a butcher shop which has a secret backroom. In the backroom you will find a dead soldier and on his body there is a pocket secretary that will mention Zelazny has gone "down below" and to a safe spot. Now I don't know if this is a glitch, but I could never get the marker to come up to move me to the next point. If this happens to you, complete the Corporate Warfare side-quest first and right where you took down the terrorists is a manhole cover that will give you access to the next portion of the mission.

Once down in the sewers, crouch and walk silently and hug the left wall. Zelazny and 3 lackeys will be together in a small area. There will be two sitting on a couch on the left and one on a couch to the right with Zelazny standing in the middle. As I was going for the Pacifist achievement this is how I approached it. I used the wall that juts out from the left wall for cover and took the soldier on the right couch out first with the tranq rifle. Zelazny was the only one alarmed and walked right to where I was in cover and I knocked him unconscious (B button). I then took the first soldier on the left couch out and his buddy became alarmed. He walked towards me, but did not come close enough for me to knock him out. When he turned around I used the tranq gun to take him out. Once you have knocked out or killed everyone head back to Dr. Wing to turn in the mission.

Edit: If you have the cloak ability, energy cells and a gas grenade, you can cloak yourself and go up a ladder to Zelazny's right hand side. On top there should be a room to your right where there will be window that is above Zelazny's head. Drop the grenade out the window and Voila! all of the enemies are unconcious.

Very good point. Knock them out if you are going for the knock out achievement if not just give em a holler. Thanks Sig.

Just to add to Sig's comment, stick with Inquisitive responses to hear him out and then let him leave.

CASIE influencing will not work on him.

Where is the backroom? My marker is stuck one story on top of the butcher shop and I can't seem to find any doors or switches in or around the shop.

Thanks for the guide, the best way to take them out without killing them is by using a gas grenade.

You have inside the butcher shop and through the backdoor. It will take you down a flight of stairs into the backroom. I really should have called it the basement, but the game refers to it as a backroom.

Not a problem I hope it helps. The door is right at the bottom of the stairs. There should also be a level 5 safe to hack as well.

I also used a gas grenade. It takes them all down at once!

Effective Astride, very effective. My strategy revolves around the Pacifist achievement, which I should have probably added to the solution hahahaha. Gas grenade is lethal no?

Really now? I always sold them for I figured them to unleash the green gas that kills Jensen. Yet another tool (and edit) for me to use on my hard playthrough.

Great guide! The glitch seems to be that it never registers you reading the pocket secretary from the body in the butcher shop.

Also, you don't actually need to get the surgery to start the quest. The doc is standing there calling to you from the first time you enter the LIMB clinic.

I had a chat with the man, and I let him do his business. Talked to the doc and got my Praxis kit and achievement, easy as pie! Also if you let him go he says there'll be less Belltower patrols so, thats pretty neato.

If you let him go and do his thing around town are you still able to get the pacifist achievement?

That I am not sure of, however I am pretty sure you can as no one will actually be dying by your hand. The same with the Kevorkian Complex achievement, by lethally overdosing the dying man it does not affect getting pacifist so I am almost positive that won't either.

I think you are right. When you go back top side he contacts you and says the patrols have been rerouted not killed.

Thanks for the tip about progressing the quest....was super worried that it was glitched and I wouldn't be able to get this achievement lol

Same happened to me. I was super worried I wouldn't be able to complete it and thankfully a charitable soul gave me some advice.

This sidequset isn't 'bugged' or 'glitched' at all... When you find the pocket secretary on the dead body in the butchers shop, it tells you to 'search' for Zalazny and his men. You need to do this without the help of any guide arrows and do some investigating of your own... Just like when you have to find the Trauma kit for Brent Redford. Theres no guide markers telling you where it is... Thankfully, with sites like these, you don't need to spend hours trawling through the streets of Hengsa looking for them... Great guide BTW.

In response to Pookie, I too think it is bugged, as typically after you are told to do something, and you do it, it clears. In this case, reading the pocket secretary does not clear that item. It should clear and say search, not keep telling you to read it. However, it does not affect the quest, and if you are not doing Corporate Espionage, the location for this achievement is the same place that you freed the "working girl" - The one that was about to get involuntary augmentations.

Now my question is, when should this achievement pop? I talked to him, but I think my use of C.A.S.I.E. blew it... I know this said it won't work, but does it also ruin it? I'm heading back to find out now...

I missed this damn achievement because I thought talking to him would force me to get the chip implanted

Why you guys all bothering yourself with the Pacifist playthrough? If all you want is the achievements just save before getting this quest and rush through and butcher everybody. after you got the chivo reload and continue your Pacifist run

Yes, as mentioned before, there is a benefit further in the game if you let Zelazny walk. Instead of fighting, just approach the soldiers and go through all the dialogue. Also, I lied to the doctor but he gave me the praxis kit anyway (plus the achievement).

Just to add, you don't have to knock them out at all. If you approach them, a conversation appears and you can try to talk him into turning himself in. If you agree with his reasoning in the conversation, you can walk away without any combat and still earn the achievement.

Thanks for this it really helped! I'm a quest whore and leaving unfinished loose ends in a story bugs me. When the waypoint never appeared and my log still telling me to read what I've already read.....I was miffed! Miffed I say!

Gas grenade is not lethal. I used them to take out a group of guys in another side quest that HAD to be alive for arrest. And silly me didn't have a non-lethal weapon with me as I'm not worried about Pacifist this run. Everything went fine, all Zzz's.

So the other reason I think this is glitched is that this pocket secretary does not show up in your inventory, even though you "took" it. This would explain why you can't read it, via your inventory. But has been said, it really does not matter... So here's what happened with me... Small spoilers to follow.

So I just walked up and started talking to Zelazny. Neither he nor his guys will go hostile on you. I made some logical choices and he seemed to be going with it. I did not actually try to talking him out of it, but kept trying to reason with him. It was kinda working, but I never got him to turn himself in. I did get a chance to use C.A.S.I.E. (alpha option, maybe that was the wrong choice) on him, but he told me it won't work. In the end I let him go, which actually helps a bit (it usually does when you help someone). I'll leave it to you to discover how it helps.

So I head back to the Doc and he's not too happy. I could have lied to him, but I've been trying to be the good guy. The Doc saw my logic, gave me a praxis, and the achievement popped? Consequences down the road? I don't know yet, but I feel good about my choice.

Brilliant game and I definitely see another playthrough coming.

An alternative to killing Zelazny or trying to talk the situation out with him, while sticking with the Pacifist achievement, is to just simply take cover in the corridor right in front of him and throw a Gas Grenade into the left corner where he and his 3 soldiers are. All of them will pass out from a single grenade and you will have never started a fight.

Just thought I'd add - fairly obvious, but a Gas Mine will have the same effect (I combined my Mine Templates with Gas Grenades to save place in may inventory)

Missable! On your 2nd visit to Hengsha, head to the LIMB clinic and speak with Dr. Wing, who gives you this sidequest. He will ask you to deal with a rogue Belltower operative team, led by Michael Zelazny, supposedly hiding behind a butcher shop in Youzhao District.

Walkthrough:

Upon reaching the butcher shop, open the storage door and head down to find a dead soldier. Read the Pocket Secretary on him to find that Zelazney has gone underground into the sewers. The entrance to the sewers he is hiding in is located in the Dongbai district, where the main objective of the sidequest “Corporate Warfare” takes place, and not far from where you found Ning in “Rotten Business”.

Head down the sewers, take the first left and climb up the ladder to end up on a ledge overlooking Zelazney and co. There is only one way to approach them - from the front, but here you can throw a Gas Grenade and knock all of them unconscious, which completes the objective and without needing to fight them.

Alternatively if you do go up to him, answer any of the following:
"Inquisitive, No, Inquisitive, Inquisitive, Inquisitive, Reason, Let Go"
"Inquisitive, No, Inquisitive, Inquisitive, Inquisitive, Approve"

if you want to avoid a fight. Head back to Dr. Wing for the trophy and a PRAXIS kit.

*Save*

Pritchard again will be in contact with you and will want you to go speak to one of the doctors at the Shanghai LIMB Clinic. Head inside and speak to the doctor to the left. The mission he gives you is to find an old friend of his who has he feels is making the wrong choices in life.

Now head back to the area where you dealt with the gang for the 'Corporate Warfare' achievement. Along the right hand side you should spot an sewer entrance. Take this down and head around to the left. Along this route you'll find the man the doctor wanted you to talk to - Zelezny.

Head over and talk to Zelezny and make your save. There's only one way to really do this achievement without ruining all your hard work and that is to agree with Zelezny so you avoid having to fight him and his men. Once you've spoken to Zelezny and agreed on his decisions, head back to the doctor and either convince or lie to him. Once the conversation has ended the achievement will unlock.

Point of No Return
Make sure you've completed all the side quests and collected all the E-Books in Shanghai (2) as this is your last chance as you will not be returning here, so they won't be available again.

The quest can be obtained during the second story arrival in Shanghai. At the PROTEZ clinic.

Zelazny himself can be found in the sewers near the Alice Garden Hotel.

If you have problems finding Zelezny (they didn’t mark it on your map), here’s a visual video to help - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3a9uihZi3I

It is not necessary to kill Zhelezny for a trophy; on the contrary, it is better to come to an agreement with him and let him go, this will make it easier to move around the streets of Hengshi

Sometimes after reading a pocket secretary on a corpse in a butcher shop, the target designator does not appear. This can be ignored by proceeding to the place where we completed the "Corporate Wars" side quest. Not far from the place where the bandits roamed, right in the gutter there is a hatch - that’s where Zelazny sits. However, you will not receive experience for this subtask. And to hell with it 8)

You can get the PRAXIS package for completing the quest without killing the guy (because I 100% agree with his arguments). To do this, you need to release Zelazny (which will automatically remove some Belltower patrols from the streets) and either lie to the doctor that the object is dead, or persuade him that he and the mercenary want the same thing - an honest government. The PRAXIS package is in your hands)

Here - https://www.youtube.com/v/QiEReMHeqZg&hl complete passage of the quest without killing or neutralizing. I didn't have a target search marker and this helped a lot.
If you are too lazy to bother for so long, use a gas grenade to deal with 3 of Zelazny’s companions, and then with him himself
