If you run out of stuff to throw because you are a lousy shot like me there is a weapons locker in the back right of the area build into the wall, it has a frag grenade, after I hit him with that and a few of the barrels form earlier before I ran out he went down with one tranquilliser dart :D

Ok, I found this really easy but it requires you to have up to seven fragmentation mines. I was on Deus Ex difficulty, and just hid behind the first concrete wall after the cutscene. Then all you do is keep lobbing the mines in front of Barrett and after seven (maybe less for easier difficulties) the cutscene and achievement popped.
Hope this helps (my first ever solution!)

Of course, please give reasons if you give a negative vote!

Just found a SUPER easy way to kill him, at least on normal or easy. (will test on highest difficulty when I do that playthrough) As soon as the fight starts, run up to him and shoot him in the face with your stun gun. As long as you can keep up with shooting him before he recovers, he'll go down in 7-8 shots.
Easiest boss fight ever.
EDIT: I can now confirm that this also works on Give Me Deus Ex difficulty, but it took me about 19 shots to take him down, so if you don't have that many, you'll have to resort to other methods.

This might be useful for the non-lethal players out there. I beat him in about two minutes, first time. I then reloaded to make sure it wasn't a glitch and it worked again, so here it is in addition to all the other solutions, in the hope it might help someone else.

You'll need a stun gun with at least 8 ammo available (preferably more to be on the safe side), and a few seconds of cloaking is useful, but you won't need more than 3 seconds.

When the fight begins run out of the center of the room, and hide to the left or the right. Move along the lines of boxes and pillars using cover moves, so Barrett isn't quite sure where you are.
Don't get too far away from him.
At some point he'll have to reload or his gun will jam.
Immediately cloak and run up to Barrett and blast him with the stun gun.
While he's juddering and shaking, move behind him, close to his backpack.
Blast him again.
And then just keep blasting him from behind (yeah, yeah) as soon as the effect wears off. He shouldn't be able to shoot, fire grenades or even move.
Within about seven or eight shots (on normal, probably more on higher difficulties) he'll be a goner.

Hope this helps someone!

Just so everyone is aware - on Give Me Deus Ex Difficulty, FOR ANY BOSS FIGHT: 3 to 4 Typhoon hits will end the fight.

Stock up on Typhoon ammo and energy bars. At the beginning of the Barret fight, or whoever, make sure you have enough typhoon shots, and energy bars, to pull off 4 (it may be 3, I forget) and he will go down.

Fight done in under 30 seconds.

And don't worry if he is shooting you - you are invincible during the typhoon animation.

Questions, corrections and neg vote justifications below.

As with all the bosses in this game, you only need to do 1 thing: TYPHOON! laugh

Seriously though, max out your typhoon as soon as you can. On "Give Me Deus Ex" difficulty, you can drop this guy, and the other bosses as well, with 3 typhoon hits.

All you need prior to any boss fight is:

1.) Maxed out Typhoon
2.) Typhoon ammo
3.) Energy bars

Barret is at the end of the FEMA mission.

EDIT: Wow, I see people haven't changed: handing out a negative vote without letting me know what is wrong with the actual solution...

I guess some people want you to hold their hand throughout the entire process laugh

This is my fight from when I defeated Barrett on "Give me Deus Ex" or hard difficulty.
Rush him at the start with a stun gun. I used 9 stun gun darts, the stun gun reloads before he can recover so just keep hitting him over and over. After using my 9 stuns I was near a red explosive barrel. Pick it up step back a bit and toss it at him, then throw a frag grenade at him. You should be able to do all this without him getting a shot at you. He hit you a couple of time at the start but not enough to kill you.

Anyway I hope this helps. smile

This is story related and cannot be missed.

This achievement will unlock once you've defeated Lawrence Barrett at the FEMA Facility.

Story related. Lawrence Barrett is the boss of the first Chapter, in Story Mission M7. He attacks mainly with his Gatling Gun-arm, Frag Grenades, and a very strong melee punch. The fight is very easy if you have EMP or Gas grenades in stock, which can be bought from the MCB Leader earlier in the mission. Throw an EMP/Gas Grenade to temporarily stun him, find any of the 3 Red Explosive Barrels in the area and hurl them at him for massive damage and which stuns him again. Repeat this a few more times, then take him down easily with Frag Grenades or your Shotgun/Combat Rifle. Hide behind cover when necessary. There are tons of ammo and grenades scattered in the room if you need them.

It is quite easy to kill him at any difficulty level, to do this, first throw a cylinder of green gas at him, and while he is writhing in clouds of poison, throw red barrels at him, after 3-4 he will die.

Also, in order to slow down this nimble guy for a while and prevent him from grabbing you, you can throw fire extinguishers at him - unlike cylinders with poison, they can be fired from a relatively close distance. As for the barrels, when playing on hard, I often threw barrels at this ghoul in the back and after 4 hits he was not going to die and even withstood a couple more clips from a rifle, so my IMHO: barrels should be thrown towards/in the face - personally it seemed to me that this way they deal more damage.

The boss is very easy to go through. In the helicopter you need to take an electric shock pistol from the Sharif. When the battle starts, you just need to hide behind the concrete block that is right in front of you and shoot with a pistol. The boss will be paralyzed for some time, the main thing is not to stop and not let him come to his senses.

On the highest difficulty I killed him without any problems. At the beginning of the level, where a healthy robot walks, you can find a rocket launcher. The ammunition will be saved if you go through everything quietly. Next, we take the shotgun from the guarded room (there is also a rocket there). We enter the boss’s room and immediately after the video we hit him with rockets, getting 3 shots, plus there’s still one on the boxes behind him and that’s 4. Next, we throw an IMP grenade at him and, running up close with a shotgun, we fire a couple of magazines into the tower. And still there is no boss. The main thing is not to set yourself up and not to stand still, try to go behind your back; if this happens, he easily loses sight of you. The entire fight takes a couple of minutes.

Immediately after the start of the battle, it’s a good idea for him to throw an EMP grenade, and then finish him off with a shock pistol. 7-8 shots will be enough for him

The difficulty level is a real Deus Ex, passed the second time, it took three missiles, three EMP grenades and one typhoon.

you can throw a couple of fragmentation grenades and a couple of revolver shots (you can get it from Zeke Sanders in 1 mission if you fight him)

There is an even simpler way. As soon as the battle starts, hide behind cover (it's in front of you) and throw 3 frag grenades at Barrett. That's it - he's a corpse.
