How to unlock the Murder He Wrote achievement in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - Definitive Guide

This is a rather straightforward, though missable achievement that is awarded for the completion of a side mission during this DLC's story.

I only thought to make a guide as I experienced what I'm sure was a bug and was unable to complete the mission and thus achievement requirement until I reloaded an earlier save.

To start this side quest speak to the man outside of the Palisade Blade entrance and he will tell you about his dead wife and thank you for listening.

When you are infiltrating the Palisade Blade there will be a room on the third floor (note this guide and the game use the British floor numbering system in which the initial entry level is the 'Ground Floor' and second level up is the 'First Floor') that you will have to enter to complete Shadowchild's side quest by putting the figurine on the desk in that room (which grants you another achievement if you complete that). On the computer in this room is the first piece of evidence you need to gather.

On the top floor of the building, but before we head up the lift to the server area, there is an office room which it is a primary objective to enter. Once inside you need to hack the computer to progress anyway, but make sure you read all of the emails on this computer for the second piece of evidence.

You should by now have an additional side objective to search room 209. Once we are in the secure server area, there are various vault type areas. 209 is upstairs on the other side of the room to the one you need to go in to progress. 209 is filled with poison gas however and if you don't have the lung augmentation, you will obviously take damage and die if you remain in there too long. This was the problem for me as I hadn't bought the lung upgrade and with all the green gas obscuring the screen, I was unable to find what I was supposed to be looking for and so decided to progress on with the story and come back once I had more Praxis kits. The game does give you the opportunity to come back here briefly but when I found the Pocket Secretary after doing the part where Jensen goes into the NSN to save Pritchard, it was showing up as 4/4 for evidence but not letting me read the pocket secretary, complete the quest or let me have the achievement. The lung upgrade isn't 100% necessary here but makes it easier to spot; look around the left hand side of the back wall and you should see it, and to reiterate, do this part BEFORE entering the area that you have to upgrade your Pass-Port to enter. Credit to vcllist for the addition that the valve to turn off this gas is in the first room you enter upon leaving the elevator.

The last piece of evidence is unmissable as it's on a pocket secretary in the first room of the next area which you must acquire for Oshiro's voice sample. Once you gather the last piece of evidence the achievement should pop straight away.

Recommended augments for this DLC are max Glass Cloaking, max Battery, Lungs and either the first leg upgrade or the strength arm upgrade. If you end up with Praxis to spare, maybe upgrade the hacking to allow you to do higher levels but there are so many Multi-Tools and crafting materials to make more lying around if you explore thoroughly that hacking isn't necessary really.

Hope this helps.

Cheers guys.

The gas can be turned off using a valve that is behind a panel in the first room of that vault, no need to have the augment. Though I didn't know there was anything in there to find when I was there! I'll have to go back. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks for that! I knew there must have been one somewhere but couldn't find it.

You may want to change the figurine office floor number to 3. That is the marking on the wall next to it. I was confused when I got the prompt in the office by chance. Though I suppose it is floor 4 if you consider the floor you enter on to be floor 1. Though I do not believe Palisade does.

+1 JayD101. Saved me a ton of time. Funny thing is, after I picked up the secretary, I leveled up and had the praxis for the rebreather...

Was hoping for a guide with
1. This room
2. That room
3. Here above the chair
4. You get it, not a long confusing essay

Dude guide is great but that valve for the poison gas is in the first room of vault/server chamber 209, in a panel on the left. It's nowhere near the first room off the elevator! I was looking for ages (I use the term "ages" very loosely :) I just thought I should mention it as the first room off the elevator is where you first encounter heat sensing cameras and robots that you can't turn off and is a huge pain searching for a non-existent valve for posion gas! The comment says first room of the vault which is confusing I know because 209 is called a server chamber but I found it! Each server chamber has a smaller room in front of it that's where it is, on the left straight before you enter the gas! The rest is all great! Usually by the dlc I just wanna smash it out and get on with things so appreciate the guide!

You'll hear about the Saridakis death fairly early in the DLC. Before heading into the bank, you must talk to Saridakis's husband on the steps into the bank to trigger this optional quest (failure to do so will prevent the achievement from unlocking, even if you find all of the evidence).

Once inside the main part of the bank, there are four pieces of evidence to find.

1. The first is in on a computer in an office on the southeast side of the third floor. This is the same office where
Deus Ex: Mankind DividedThe Secret Achievement achievement in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided worth 15 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement
takes you and solving that one will give you the password for the computer ("trustno1"). Or just hack it.

2. The second is on the computer in the executive offices on the fifth floor. You are supposed to read this email anyway as part of the main quest, which reveals which vault room you are looking for.

3. The third is in vault 209 (upper floor, left side). This vault is filled with poison gas, but you can turn it off by finding the value behind a hidden panel on the left side of the room right before the door into the vault. The evidence is on a pocket secretary in the back left corner of the room, mostly hidden behind some crates.

4. The final piece of evidence is a pocket secretary with a voice recording in the office you head into after getting into vault 204 (main quest). It's on the desk on the right (as you enter), underneath a few boxes.

If you talked to the husband to initiate the quest, the achievement will unlock once you've found the fourth piece of evidence.

(Missable!)

In order to get this trophy, you must make sure once you've spoken to Shadowchild, that you exit the apartment block exactly the same way you came in. Once you hit the apartment block's main lobby you'll encounter an NPC that automatically engages you in a dialogue, and opens up a side quest to find 4 pieces of evidence. If this NPC is not there check the entrance to the Palisade Blade. Once the side quest is active proceed to find all 4 pieces within the Palisade Blade. The 4 pieces are (in likely order):

  • In the laptop in the 3rd floor office where you placed Shadowchild's figurine.
  • In the Executive Suite on the top floor, in an email in the laptop.
  • In Chamber 209, a pocket secretary in a gap on the floor against the far wall. As the chamber is filled with poisonous gas, it's easier to locate this with the Implanted Rebreather aug.
  • In the CTO's office, the voice log/pocket secretary used to proceed with the story.

The voice log is hidden under 2 boxes on the cabinet on the right wall.

Once you read the last log the trophy will pop.

As you approach the Blade, Mr. Saridakis will be shouting from the building's steps that lead to the front entrance. Speak with him and he will explain his take on a conspiracy regarding his wife's murder. After listening to his story, you will receive an objective to uncover four different clues about the Saridakis murder inside the Palisade Blade. Although the clues will be marked on your HUD/map, take a look below for a general idea of what you're looking for.

  • On Level 4 of the Blades, inside the office where you plant ShadowChild's figurine, access the laptop and read all of the emails.
  • On Level 5 of the Blades, inside the office that is accessed via the roof hatch, hack into the computer for your primary objective and then read the rest of the emails.
  • Inside the server chamber area, access Room 209 and loot and listen to the pocket secretary that is found on the ground in the back-left end of this room.
  • Inside the security room that leads to the NSN chamber, loot and listen to Oshiro's pocket secretary; it's located underneath some boxes on the table to the right-hand side of the room.

Once you have listened to Oshiro's voice recording, which is the fourth and final clue, the achievement will unlock.

The most important thing is to talk to the man before entering the Blade and chat with him on all topics. He appears after the quest "Go to ShadowChild's apartment" is given.
All the evidence.

To progress along the quest line, you need to find the pocket secretary in room 209 (the secretary is hidden against the wall opposite the door). Be careful, the room is filled with gas.

There are only 3 pieces of evidence in the clue above, don't worry, the 4th piece of evidence. You will find this evidence during the task “search for a sample of the chief engineer’s voice.”

Niko Saridakis is on the ground floor where ShadowChild lives.

the main thing after meeting with shadowchild is to talk to the man near the entrance to the bank; a quest will appear and the first clue will be in the same room where you need to place a figurine for shadowchild, and then the quest will put marks on the map for each next clue, it’s difficult to miss
