How to unlock the The Puppetmaster achievement in Don't Starve: Console Edition - Definitive Guide

If your really struggling with adventure mode then the best way to do this is to cheat.

The generally suggested character for this is the WX-78, however I liked to use Willow.

Once you've found the Maxwell door, which may take some time, there's no real technique to finding it other than simply exploring, and using a diving rod, but it might take you to some of the 'things' instead of the door. (I got lucky and found it by chance)

As soon as you enter your first world in adventure mode save the game, quit out, and then upload your save to the cloud if you have PS+, or a memory stick if you don't. Next play through the map as you would normally, taking note of where each 'thing' is and where each portal is (especially important on the Archipelago map), I used my camera on my phone to note down where everything was.

Once you know where everything is, quit out of the game, download your cloud save, overwrite your current one, then you can quickly get all of the 'things' and can get to the portal without wasting time and resources wandering around searching for them. This also helps you out if you accidentally died, especially on the latter maps, saving you having to repeat the previous maps. I'd also suggest doing this before you go through the portal, so you can quickly scout the next map to see if you got a decent spawn.

Repeat this process for each map, use this http://dont-starve-game.wikia.com/wiki/Adventure_Mode for a short guide on getting through each one, also note your 3rd level, if it isn't the Two Worlds map you should be able to find Wes and get the other difficult trophy.

To unlock Maxwell, you need to complete Adventure Mode. To do this, you need to get into the Mode by going through Maxwell's Door, and in each chapter collect Something, the parts of which are scattered across the map. The Divining Rod (radio on the staff) can help you in your search.

After activating the door, you will be transferred to Adventure Mode , after completing which, as written above, Maxwell will be unlocked (to do this, in the last, sixth chapter of the Epilogue, you need to activate the platform to the right of Maxwell, sitting in the throne, by inserting Divining Rod and confirm your choice). If you die in this mode, you will be transported back to the sandbox, to the same place where you found the door. This will not be an easy path, but the most important thing is the fifth chapter and preparation for it, more on that below.

Before the last fifth chapter of the adventure, I advise you to prepare well - there will be an endless night and great difficulties with food. Since you can only take 4 items with you when moving into the next chapter, you need to approach this issue wisely, and spend a good portion of the time in the fourth chapter preparing the resources and items that will be carried over into the last chapter.

I played Willow because of her lighter, I took it always and everywhere, and also because maintaining sanity for this character is easy and simple - you need to stand near a source of fire (be it a fire or a bonfire), despite the fact that the damage from fire she doesn’t get it (which also saved my life - at night you don’t have to stand by the fire waiting for the day, but walk around with a lighter and collect some resources, setting fire to single trees or bushes, for a better view. In addition, you can easily escape from persecution by setting fire forests without harming yourself ). Here are the four items I recommend taking with you, based on my example:

  • I highly recommend learning the recipe (make a prototype in Alchemy Engine ) for the Miner Hat , and taking one with you, as this is almost the key point in the last chapter.
  • I also recommend taking some food with you - I think Jerky is the best candidate. Meat can be stored for 20 days, restores 20 life, 15 sanity and 25 hunger. Stacks (places in one cell) 20 pieces. This means you need to take the maximum with you, all 20 pieces. It takes 2 days to cook one, so I pre-collected 20 pieces of Meat from Beefalo and made 20 Drying Racks for them. so as not to waste time storing already cooked meat (dried meat DOES NOT ROT while it is in the Dryer, so collect the “harvest” immediately before moving on to Chapter 5).
  • Stack (40 pieces) Fireflies . The fact is that the Miner's Hat is not eternal, and spends its resource very quickly. Making a new hat is very expensive (you need a hat made of grass, and for it you need 12 pieces, 1 gold and 1 firefly), but it is much easier to simply replenish the “fuel” in your hat, which you will take with you, with three fireflies. To do this, you need to throw the hat on the ground, and apply THREE fireflies to it (the same way you add flammable objects to a fire), each firefly restores 33% of the “life” of the hat.
  • In the case of Willow, I inserted her signature lighter into the fourth slot. So this slot, if you play as another character, remains empty, at your discretion. Many people recommend taking the Walking Cane , without which I had to spend two or even three times more time walking from one end of the map to the other, looking for a narrow “bridge” to another island, or you can take more food, because there really were big problems with her.
And one last tip - see Suspicious Dirt Pile ( ), don’t be lazy to dig up the tracks and follow them in search of Koalefant . This beast can save your life, as it drops 8 meat, and valuable, in terms of food, Koalefant Trunk . When cooked, Roasted Koalefant Trunk restores 40 hit points and 75!! hunger. But it’s better not to waste time on it if you don’t see the need for it (if your food supply is not yet running low).

It is not necessary to put things like Willow's lighter or Woody's ax in the 4th slot. They will appear in your inventory by default in the next chapter.

The WX-78 is perfect for adventure mode, despite the fact that in some worlds it can rain non-stop, causing damage. There are plenty of gears in this mode (after the 5th chapter I still had a stack of 30+ pieces), they restore 60 health, 75 hunger and 50 sanity, they can also pump up stats to 400 health / 200 satiety / 300 sanity, all improvements are carried over in the following chapters. In the last parts you will need to lower/increase your sanity in order to pass through the obelisks, so this character will greatly facilitate their passage.
