How to unlock the Trial of Temperance achievement in Dragon Age: Inquisition - Definitive Guide

This achievement is obtained through normal story progression but can be Missed if not done in the correct way.

Here is how you obtain Dragon Age: Inquisition – Trial of the Temperance Achievement.

First of all you need to turn the trial ON.

From the Pause menu select Options and then Trials. Once in the Trial menu check the "Rest Easy" trial from the list and press B. The game will ask you to confirm changes and then place you back in the Pause menu.

The "Rest Easy" modifier makes you lose all Aggregated Focus (the Hash mark bar that appears over your health) for the entire Team anytime you claim a new camp/stronghold, rest at the camp/stronghold or fast travel to any location.

To get this Achievement you MUST turn this Trial on BEFORE heading to Emprise du Lion on the world map. If you enter this area without the trial turned ON and then turn it ON once in the zone the achievement will NOT pop. The trial must remain on at all times while inside Emprise du Lion.

If you are not sure if this is your first time in Emprise du Lion there is an easy way to find out. Upon entering this area for the first time there will be a cut-scene with your friendly Dwarf Scout Lace Harding. After the cut-scene/dialogue you are free to proceed to the Suledin Keep.

This Achievement is pretty easy to obtain.

The easiest way to complete this Trial is to load a previous save from before entering Emprise du Lion. If you don't have an older save to load you will need to start a new play through....

Game difficulty does NOT effect this achievement.

(I suggest Casual to keep the leveling of the new Character to a minimum - I had a lvl 12 Warrior save to load and had no issues)

On the new play through you will need to progress all the way through the opening town of Haven and reach Skyhold. To acquire this location you will need to begin the "A Timely Intervention" side quest which serves as an introduction to Emprise du Lion as a new questing area.

Depending on what difficulty the game is being played on you may need to fast travel to refill your potions or to heal and that is OK. Focus builds rather quickly as you make your way to the Keep since there are a lot of enemies to dispatch on the way.

Once you discover the Suledin Keep it is pretty straight forward. The Keep itself is a big spiral leading to the lookout at the top of the Keep. There will be lots of Red Templar to Kill as well as two large troll giants and a Demon that can be skipped depending on how you respond to him. Take is offer get the items or kill him and get the items either choice is fine.

Once at the top of the Keep claim it for the Inquisition! After the cut-scene plays and you regain control of your character the achievement will pop!

Congratulations you now have the 15G Trial of the Temperance chevo!

If you vote please comment either way

ENJOY!

The night is long
And the path is dark
Look to the sky
For one day soon
The dawn will come!

So what do you actually need to do to get this achievement after getting to Emprise du Lion? Where is Suledin Keep? I just went there with a Level 10 Rogue and everything had skulls over it and I got molested. So it obviously is not as "easy" as you think.

All you need to do is reach the top of the Keep and claim it with the trial activated. I was only lvl 12 (warrior) when i played through it on casual and i didn't have any issues - plus if you really just want the chevo you can run past most of the enemies. The keep itself begins in the middle of the map to the left and is hard to miss. The guide was created with the impression that the player has actually played the game before.

You CAN put this on after cut scene with Harding. I thought I had messed up by putting it on straight after cut scene instead of before but continued anyway and achievement still popped so it's worth while continuing if you forget :-)

I got this on a save where I had entered the zone already, but had yet to directly enter the keep. Thankfully past me had the accidental foresight to save at just the right moment. Still unlocked for me. Not sure if the achievement "starts" after ending the keep, if you just need to raise the flag, etc. Though I'd share in case someone thinks their save is useless because they entered the zone.

As Blue Radium said, no need to start from scratch in this zone. I tried this 2 times, worked on my second try.

1st - I loaded a save where I have claimed the Bone Tower camp and already had the quest for Suledin keep active. I turned the trial on, fast travelled to Bone Camp and freed the Suledin Keep. No achievement.

2nd - I loaded a save where I have not claimed the Bone Tower camp yet, but I had already played over an hour on this map. I turned the trial on, claimed Bone Tower. After I had the quest for Suledin Keep active, I travelled to Skyhold and back to Empress du Lion, to load the entire map with trial active. Claimed Suledin Keep, achievement unlocked.

Soooo... Maybe you need to have the trial on before getting the quest for claiming Suledin keep, or travel off map and load back in with the trial active before claiming the keep.

Oh, so this is via the Trespasser DLC - hate it when DLC achievements are listed on your console when you've not even got the DLC, and you can't tell they're for DLC 😡! It's just the 'Trial of...' achis that are DLC?*
It's pretty bizarre that a DLC achievement is missable if you've already finished part of the main game - you'd think most people buy DLC after they've finished the main story, so they've already missed this if so?

*Nope! DLC achis:
Jaws of Hakkon: Firestarter; Historian; Legend-Marked; Winter's End.
The Descent: Deep Roads Commander; Fact Finder; Giant Slayer; Shaper of Stone.
Trespasser: 'Trial of...' (x8); Forever Marked; Lateral Thinker; Coroner.
...The 3 story DLCs are still £12 each, or £25 for all 3, but the GotY, which is the game plus every DLC there is (including in-game bonus items) is also £25 (2024, 9½ years after release). Not sure I want more content - I was on 80hrs before starting the mage or Templar choice mission! 😸

Since the other guide here was “created with the impression that the player has actually played the game before” and this was my first time playing the game (I still haven’t completed it, as of the time of writing this), I will add this guide.

Turn on the “Rest Easy” trial (in the in-game menu under “Options” and then “Trials”). In all honesty, I don’t know when/where the point of no return is for turning it on. I turned it on in Skyhold before unlocking the Emprise du Lion area. Others have commented under the other guide for this achievement when/where they have turned it on to varying degrees. I recommend doing it sooner rather than later just in case. The trial makes it so that you lose Focus whenever you rest or travel. If you’re playing on an easy enough difficulty, this shouldn’t be an issue if you turn it on too early. Now, go to the war table and select the “Liberate Emprise du Lion” operation, choose an advisor, and complete it. Then, go to Emprise du Lion.

Upon arriving at Emprise du Lion, you are tasked with eliminating some red templars and must complete a couple of quests. The first of these quests is called “Take Back the Lion.” You must defeat large groups of red templars and “claim” each of their camps (3 in total) as your own. This can be done in the same manner that you have always created camps in previous areas. This is no small task, unless you are over-leveled. I started with a level 12 two-handed warrior. Maybe I’m slow, but it took me a 2-3 hours to complete. Throughout your attempt at this achievement, you will fight various types of red templars, giants, wolves (depending on luck and route chosen), and a demon (depending on conversation choices).

After claiming the first three camps, you will start the quest “Capturing Suledin Keep.” It is the same principle as “Take Back the Lion,” but you only have one final camp to claim as your own. Deal with some red templars, and you will then talk to a demon and maybe fight it. To avoid the fight, accept one of his offers (there are in-game consequences if you accept one of his offers beyond simply avoiding the fight). After dealing with the demon, climb the final set of stairs and claim the camp. There will be a cutscene. Then, after you’ve regained control of your character, the achievement will unlock.

The other guide is way too vague.

Before completing the War Table mission "Liberate Emprise du Lion", you need to go to options and turn on Rest Easy in the trials menu.
Then head to the map. Follow the liberation questline and destroy all the camps and claim them. Playing on Casual will help you along and you shouldn't need your focus abilities to finish it.

I completed it at level 8. (was level 10 at the end of the questline).
Two mages (One fire, one a Spirit build with Ice as their damage skill), one Battlemaster Warrior using sword and shield (preferably Blackwall) and a rogue (I used Sera, but found Cole can be very useful when I tried it again with him).

You can skip two battles on the way up, the Second troll battle by heading straight ahead and then following the wall around, then you can skip the next battle by simply running through the door at the top of the stairs and waiting at the next doorway.

The last battle cannot be skipped and needs to be played. Make sure the shadow dies first then the marksmen, as they deal the most damage.

When it comes tl the boss. If you're not worried about pissing off every companion at this stage. You can just accept the Demons offer and claim the keep, after two cut scenes the trophy will pop.

Just like the trophy description says: claim Suledin Keep with the Rest Easy trial turned on. I was able to unlock this trophy by just turning on the trial before I entered Suledin Keep.

Did not work for me. Going to try the solution on TrueAchievements on my next playthrough since I botched my save.

It needs to be on BEFORE you even enter the map. Poor guide.

Once “Rest Easy” has been activated, it will remove all Focus for every party member every time you fast travel or use a base camp to rest. Please be aware that this trial must be activated before ever entering Emprise du Lion. Do not make the mistake of accidentally traveling there for the first time without the trial activated.

Once you're far enough into the game and finally have enough Power, turn on the trial, unlock the region, and travel there. Now work your way through Emprise as you normally would – killing enemies and completing smaller quests – but focus on making your way to Suledin Keep in the north. Fight your way through the Keep just like you did in the base game, and the achievement will finally unlock once Ishmael has been defeated (or reasoned with) and the Inquisition flag has been raised full mast.
