How to unlock the Master of Arms achievement in Dragon Age: Origins - Definitive Guide

There are two ways to get this. One - play the game like you should, fight as many enemies as possible and do as many sidequests as possible. I got my level 20 towards the end of the game.

The other way to do it is to get to Ostagard and start the quest where you get three vials of darkspawn blood. Get those three vials but don't get the treaties. Return to Duncan and tell him you have the vials but not the treaties. You will receive experience. Now keep talking to him stating the same thing, you will continue receiving experience. Grind up to level 20 and enjoy achievement goodness.

Edit: For those of you not getting this, this does work. The game will not show you "completing" the quest over and over, but if you check your experience gauge after every time talking to Duncan and stating you have the blood but not the treaties, the experience gauge will go up. It takes approx 30-50 minutes to go from level 4 to level 20 (depending on how quickly you push buttons and if you skip the cutscenes). It just takes patience.

Worked a treat :)

Also I found mashing both the X and A buttons together works (rather than alternating to skip and select as required)

STILL WORKS AS OF 2/20/2013. (and I doubt it will ever stop working. I think they're done patching this, what with DA 2 out...)

still works. My only worry is leveling too far up and glitching the game. does that happen? Or can I get to level 25 and then set out on my journey?

if you want an even faster way, start a new character and once you can save and quite import the character to the witch hunt DLC, every time i imported my characters it automatically leveled them to level 20.

I played through it maybe 6 times with different characters.

Cheers,
Matt

If you own the the Golems of Amgarrak or Witch Hunt DLC, there is a very simple way to get this achievement. Simply start a new warrior in Origins and save the game. Then, start a Golems of Amgarrak/Witch Hunt save file and import this character. Skip through the cutscenes and dialogue. Since all characters in Golems of Amgarrak/Witch Hunt start at level 20, all you need to do is "level up" and the achievement is yours.

Thanks! Super easy. It's important to note that you need to make a low level character in Origins and then import. Other than that easy as pie.

Such an easy achievement with this dlc. Worth buying just for this. Great guide!

He means just create a character in Origins. Anyway, as an experiment I tried creating a warrior in Golems. When that didn't work, I imported my level 6 warrior into Golems for the achievement. It's seriously easy. Like the "Press START to Play" achievement from the Simpsons Game, only slightly more complicated since it involves an addon. :D

Unlocked this earlier this morning and you don't need to import a character. Just create a new game, pick Golems of Amgarrak or Witch Hunt as ViPeR866 says, level up and you'll unlock the achievement. You'll also get any of the talent related achievements as well if you don't already have them.

One additional note to the above solutions: the achievement only unlocks after you "level up" with the A button from the stats screen. There is a glitch though -- if you don't level up when you're exactly on level 20, the achievement will never pop. I overshot and didn't level up until level 21 and learned this the hard way.

Just a note; this can be obtained in Awakening, on all 3 classes. Just hit 20 in Awakening and level up, few seconds later the cheevo will pop up.

still another way to get his is to play anyother dragonage addon/dlc.anything other than origens will start a new charector at level 20.with this you can create than level 20 warrior/mage/rogue/ and get the achievement. i used the recent dlc: "witch hunt" and started a new charector just pushing the A button to get to the next screen when i suddenly recieved the achievement for the level 20 warrior.start a new charector.apply points anywhere.when the story begins you will have a level 20 charector.this is not a glitch so it works with any game update.(witnessed by Mon-Star6)

Note:
The DLC idea works fine, but you have to use the Memoirs of the First Wardens and level yourself up again, then the 'cheevo pops.(:

There is a 25 level cap on each of the three classes in Dragon Age. If you play through the game completing all available quests and gaining the maximum amount of experience points possible, this achievement should unlock at some point during or after the Landsmeet.

Another way to easily level up is to use the glitch, which has been described on many other achievement websites. During the Tainted Blood mission in Ostargar, you are asked to collect Darkspawn Blood and the Grey Warden Treaties. Once you have collected the blood samples, and your quest is updated, return to Duncan. When talking to Duncan, select the conversation option "We have the blood, but not the scrolls." You will get the experience with out completing the actually mission. Repeat this conversation (hitting the X button skips conversations) until you reach level 20 or higher.

if you talk to the woman that gives you the quest to make traps for her in lothering outside the tavern you can keep buying trap triggers and making traps the quest is never completed and you can get infinite money and experience.

P.S. this could talk a while, but you get a lot of money in the process and the travel distance is not that far, just stock up on trap triggers and make (eventually as money adds up) hundreds of traps and keep pressing a as you cash in the quest.

You'll need a whole lot of experience points and you won't hit level 20 until late in the game. Kills, of course, get you XP. Do every side quest that you can. There are quite a few to be found. You'll need 135,000 XP to reach level 20. This is a long grind, but you should reach level 20 before the end of the game.

Fortunately, this is made even easier by two pieces of DLC. If you have Awakening, then just start a new character in one of the classes that you don't have. You'll start at level 18. It's a short grind up to level 20. If you download The Golems of Amgarrak, it's even easier. You'll start at level 20. Once you level up to 21, the trophy will unlock.

Even more amazing is that it gets even easier with further DLC. If you have Witch Hunt, all you have to do is start a new character and the level 20 trophies will pop.

Instead of playing through almost the whole game to get your character to level 20 you can use a sweet shortcut.

You do need the "Witch Hunt" dlc to do it this way.

If you have it just start a new game in the main menu. Select Witch Hunt and create a new character. Pick the character class for which you need the Trophy and start. Immediately at the beginning the Trophy for reaching level 20 should pop since the dlc levels you to 20 straight away.

Of course this also works for:

Dragon Age: OriginsArchmageThe Archmage trophy in Dragon Age: Origins worth 63 pointsMain character achieved level 20 as a mage

and

Dragon Age: OriginsShadowThe Shadow trophy in Dragon Age: Origins worth 59 pointsMain character achieved level 20 as a rogue

If you play honestly, you can get level 20 shortly before the end of the game.
If you have downloaded the “Awakening” DLC, then start playing as a character of the class you need to level up, and do not port your character from the main game. If you create a new character, you will immediately be given level 18, and upon reaching level 20, achievements will open...
Another way: The game has the opportunity to get an endless amount of money and experience. To do this, you will need the ability to give money to the army for the development of the army that appears after saving Earl Redcliffe and any expensive item - the more expensive the better.
Add an expensive item to your “junk” list and go to any merchant. Switch the item selection to “junk” and hover over what you want to sell. Now you need to very quickly click on (sell all the trash) and immediately click on (sell an item). If you did everything correctly, the item will be sold twice (if it doesn’t work, repeat, it will take practice since you have to press the buttons almost simultaneously), buy it back (you will have a profit equal to the cost of the item) and continue the process until you collect money enough to buy an expensive ax from the store in the camp. After purchasing an axe, the process will go much faster.
When you have a lot of gold, start donating gold to the soldiers, and you will very quickly get the level you need. It turns out one level for every 1000 coins. True, for each higher level you need to donate more coins - so for level 20 you will have to put about 1500 coins in the chest.

If you have the “Witch Hunt” add-on, then create a character in it: a mage, a robber, a warrior... All the achievements are yours... You immediately start at lvl 20..

If you don’t have add-ons, you can level up in Redcliffe Castle. On the 2nd floor there is a closed door, break it, go to the first floor and then go back and break it again. For hacking they give 50 xp.

There is a faster and more convenient way to level up: after the background story, when your character ends up in Ostagar, we immediately take the quest from Duncan to collect blood and contracts. We go to the Wild Lands, but collect ONLY blood and return to Duncan. We donate blood, and to the question “where are the agreements?” - turn on the “fool” and we say they didn’t find it. Duncan will send you on a search again, so you need to IMMEDIATELY start a dialogue with him and repeat this procedure until victory. For each level there are 5-7 dialogues with Duncan. Use YouTube guys
