How to unlock the Recruiter achievement in Dragon Age: Origins - Definitive Guide

There are a total of nine party members in the game (not including DLC), and they are named as followed:

- Alistair (story related)
- Morrigan (story related)
- Dog (you name it, see below)
- Leliana (see below)
- Sten (see below)
- Wynne (see below)
- Oghren (story related, see below)
- Zevran (see below)
- Loghain (see below)

Several of these characters are story related and can't be missed. The rest however, require a little effort, just make sure not to kill them or turn them away.

If your origin is a Human Noble then you will automatically get the dog, however if you are anything else you need to complete a side-quest while in Ostagar. The kennel owner will have several dogs sick with taint, and will ask you to retrieve a certain flower from the wilds. Bring back one of the flowers (there are several) and you will get the dog after you complete Ostagar.

Leliana is located in the tavern in Lothering. Enter it, and she will automatically talk to you. Just make sure to accept her into your party when she asks. She can be missed if you leave Lothering before talking to her.

Sten is another one people usually miss. He is imprisoned in a cage in the town of Lothering. Speak to him about how he got there, and then go to the Reverend Mother in the Chantry and persuade her to release him. Once you release him, ask him to join your party. You must do this before leaving Lothering, otherwise you will miss your chance.

Wynne is located in the Circle Tower, which you will go to as part of the main story. Just make sure not to kill her when you first meet, and she should join your party after a short discussion.

You get Oghren while in Orzammar (Note: If you haven't been there yet, it is the cave in the uppper left of your map). He is a part of the story and no matter what you do, he cannot be missed. He will join right as you are heading into the Deep Roads.

Zevran is an assassin hired to kill you and will appear at random, normally after you have recruited one of the major allies. You will encounter him and his band while traveling. Survive his ambush and spare his life. Accept him into your party, when the choice comes up.

As for Loghain, you get him towards the end of the game. When you confront him at the Landsmeet, make sure to duel him and choose your main character for the fight. After you beat him, spare him, and then make the decision to turn him into a Grey Warden. By doing this Alistair will leave your party and Loghain will replace him.

I haven't tested it, but I have heard that Shale doesn't count, since he's DLC.

You listed Oghren, but you didn't state where you find him...

I mentioned it was part of the story and that he cannot be missed. However, if you would like me to list where in the story you get him, I will add it.

it is also possible that if you missed recruiting any of the above list to revert back to an earlier save, near where you missed them and recruit them, once recruited you can go to your game, you wont have them onside but you'll still have recruited them and that's all you need,i went back and recruited 2 of them after completing the game

Erm. when Wynne joined the party, at the end i sided with the templars and she left the party, does it still count?

You sided with Templars?! You evil bastard. Heh, just kidding. Anyway, I do believe it counts. As long as the person as been in your party at some point it should count. I'll see if I can find a confirmation.

Sorry, couldn't find anything concrete. To my knowledge it should work though.

Since you can never have Alistair and Loghain in your party at the same time, having Wynne (or any other party member) leave shouldn't affect this achievement.

You don't need to have all characters in the same playtrough. You can start a new one and the Achievement will come

Indeed it should have. Are you sure that you got them all? If so, I don't know what to tell ya. You might have ran into a glitch.

I'm pretty sure i got them all...
Well I'll just keep trying to get all at once (as far as possible) in a new playthrough.

Could Jowan count as a recruited member? I know you can select him when you go into the fade to save Connor and the Arl, which i did. Did those people that have glitched ach. choose Jowan or not?

Most recent patch fixed this. If it didn't unlock for you, gaining any new party member on any save should unlock it.

*Duel Loghain* ... Can someone specify how I get him to duel? I'm guessing I need to aggravate in by conversation choices. I'm also guessing I screwed it up. :)

You need to win the Landsmeet. I don't remember the specific dialogue choices, but I believe they involve some persuasion. Just focus on being political, not antagonizing Loghain. Once he realizes he has lost, he'll challenge you.

Loghain!?!?!? I never would have guessed in a million years. Probably should have let him speak instead of killing him every time....

Like many said before, Shale does NOT count (even though valuable). Achievement pops after the cutscene where you accept Loghain's surrender and Alistair leaves.

In order to recruit Loghain successfully you are required to side with the queen, please add this to the solution, please.

Damn, I thought Jowan (the blood mage in Redcliff) was recruitable, I spent so much time trying to get him. Only one I need is Loghain. Wynne, got killed when I was in the Circle cuz I thought Cullen (the Templar held captive) was also recruitable, so I did everything he asked, Wynne didn't agree. :\

Mine still glitched up after the patch, though when I started again I went through a different dialogue sequence with Wynne than I have my previous times, the achievement popped up straight after, also, I was forced to add Wynne to my party, unlike the previous times where I was still given a choise =S. I just went through the dialogue options that made me seem most enthusiastic about helping her take back the circle.

What the above solution forget to mentions is that in order to recruit Loghain you MUST side with the Queen and you MUST choose to battle him with your PLAYER CHARACTER and choose to let Loghain become a Grey Warden by sparing his life.

Other than that, his/her solution is fine.

The following characters are the ones you need to recruit in order of the story:

Alistar - Story recruit at Ostagar
Dog - Either comes with Human Noble or a mission while at Ostagar and Kocari Wilds.
Morrigan - Story recruit at Flemeth's Hut
Leliana - Recruited at Dane's Refuge within Lothering
Sten - Locked up at Lothering. Convince the Revered Mother to give you the key. With Leliana, you can also lockpick the cage.
Wynne - Recruited at the Circle. Make sure you do not have Morrigan in your party or else she won't join.
Oghren - Story join at Orzammar on the way to the Deep Roads to look for Branka.
Zevran - Recruited at a random encounter. Beat him to death and then let him live.
Loghain - Beat him in the Landsmeet duel and then spare his life. Forces Alistar to leave the group.

- For the dog, simply start a Human Noble origin story and you'll get him at the beginning. You can name him whatever you like.
- Alistair is story related. You get him at Ostagar. He joins your party after the first quest.
- Morrigan joins you once you're about to leave for Lothering. This is after you complete your first quest in Ostagar.
- Leliana is in a tavern in Lothering called Dane's Refuge. Once you talk to her, she'll automatically join your party. You want to get her early on as Lothering is taken over by the blight later in the game.
- Sten is found in a cage on a side of the wooden fence in the center of the Lothering village. You have to persuade Revered Mother in the large Chantry to give you the keys to the cage. Once he's out, you can recruit him.
left.
- Oghren joins you in Orzammar when you're working on A Paragon of Her Kind. During this mission, you'll be finding a new king for Orzammar. Oghren's a strong warrior and will help you through the tough journey through the Crossroads.
- Wynne is found in the Circle Tower at the beginning of the Circle of Mages quest line. After a short fight, ask her to join your party. She may turn against you at the end of these quests, but as long as you initially recruited her, she counts.
- Zevran will ambush you at random during the later part of the game. For me, it happened during the Arl of Redcliffe. He can very easily be found wandering around Denerim.
- Loghain is one of the game's chief antagonists who eventually sides with you in the Landsmeet. You have to choose to battle him in order to free him and recruit him. Once you win the battle, he'll turn into a Grey Warden and join your party.

Once you've recruited all of them, you'll unlock the achievement. The ones in Lothering are easy to miss. If you missed them on your first playthrough, you can come back and get them on your second one. For Loghain, you simply have to load up your save from Landsmeet and choose to fight him and turn him into a Grey Warden.

The party members that you have to recruit are: Alistair (Ostagar), Morrigan (Kocari Wilds), Leliana (Lothering), Sten (Lothering), "Dog" (Human Noble origin and in Ostagar), Zevran (encounter after Redcliffe), Oghren (Orzammar), Wynne (Mage's Circle Tower), and Loghain (after "The Landsmeet"). Be aware, if you accept Loghain into your party, then Alistair will leave it forever.

Shale is not be required for this. If you have the "Stone's Prisoner" DLC, recruit him anyway because he's extremely valuable.

To obtain this achievement, you need to recruit all available characters for hire into your group. Available for hire: Alistair (Ostagar), Morrigan (Kotsari Thicket), Leliana (Lothering), Sten (Lothering), “The Dog” (Origin of a Noble Person or Ostagar), Zevran (random encounter after recruiting the first troops into the army), Oghren ( Orzammar), Wunn (Tower of the Mages) and... Loghain (after the quest “The Landsmeet”). Please note that if you take Loghain into your group, you will lose Alistair.
Sheila is not required for this achievement. However, if you have the Stone Prisoner add-on, be sure to hire her, as she is one of the most powerful warriors in the game.
