How to unlock the The Enduring Vigil achievement in Dragon Age: Origins - Definitive Guide

Mineral Upgrades:

· Iron Ore: in Kal'Hirol. In a wheelbarrow in the northeastern most room of the Trade quarter (thanks xDEEVIUSx)
· Veridium Ore: in Vigil Keep's basement, during the first quest there
· Silverite Ore: inside the Silverite Mines, in the Wending Woods. After you're caught in prison, while searching for your equipment.

Wall Upgrades

· Pay the dwarf Voldrik 80 sovereigns to strenghten the walls
· Locate the granite deposit in the Wending Woods. It's right near the entrance to the Silverite Mines.

Other requirements

· Give lirium sand to the bomb dwarf: this is located when you go into the vigil basement for the second time (whe the rubble is blown up). when you start the quest you hand a left (down if you are looking at the map) and follow the path until you reach your first darkspawn encounter should be in the first crevice on the right. (thanks BrianF1)
· Complete both basement quests given by Sergeant Maverlies
· Get at least 1 trader at the Keep

You definately don't need to do the lirium dust, nor do you need a trader at the keep.

No, you can't save both city and vigil, if you want both achievements just save before the final choice.

Inside the Silverite Mines... very descriptive. Now I don't have silverite ore and I have no way to get back inside the mines.

it is not need lyrium DUST for the bomb dwarf. what you really need is lyrium SAND. this is located when you go into the vigil basement for the second time (whe the rubble is blown up). when you start the quest you hand a left (down if you are looking at the map) and follow the path until you reach your first darkspawn encounter should be in the first crevice on the right.
ps. great guide, helped me alot

@ xDEEVIUSx - Most likely the Iron ore you get from the merchant is "Pure Iron Ore" for the Golem Armor. I thought the same thing until I finished the thaig.

Lyrium Sand will be found in Kal'Hirol - a Main Hall's room that is located south east. Only there is Lyrium Sand to be found. From other places, that is Lyrium Dust that can be found - it applies not to upgrade Vigil's Keep.

^ That's not true, there are multiple places for Lyrium Sand. You can complete that quest multiple times.

Thanks for the guide, though I actually got the Achievement before turning in any Lyrium Sand so that bit might not be required

Mineral Upgrades:
· Iron Ore: in Kal'Hirol. In a basket, just before the golem fight.
AMENDMENT: This was not here for me, the iron ore was located in a wheelbarrow in the northeastern most room of the Trade quarter in Kal'hirol. It is possible to buy one from a vendor in Amaranthine but it does not prompt the quest and does not count towards achievement.

I must agree with Lady Evol on the Lyrium Sand. I found some in the Silverlite Mines. Their is a pile of it in one of the dead end corridors (the one directly south from the Dragonling Pen). When I picked it up, it said Lyrium Sand and also gave me a prompt for the Bombs Away! quest back at the Vigil.

And as for the Silverlite Ore, in the Silverlite Mines, as BuzzerBeater911 had trouble finding it. It is found in the room just before the Dragonling Pen, when I entered the room, their were darkspawn and 2 experimental subjects in there, one had my main characters equipment the other had Anders (as I took Nathanial and Anders with me). The ore itself is small section of crystals on the floor just as you enter the room. You can't pick it up until you kill everything anyway.

I can not say if you people are right, since I am not into Dragon Age Origins these days, and my memory gives me nothing relative now. But it is good that you post additional vital information here, so others will claim their benefits out of it, and see for themselves how much I am wrong, and you are right. Thanks!

What this Achievement entails is that you acquire all the upgrades to Vigil's Keep. The following is needed to proceed:

Herren's Mineral Requests:

1 - Iron Ore - Kal'Hirol
2 - Veridium Ore - Vigil Keep Basement
3 - Silverite Ore - Silverite Mines

Voldrik's Wall Upgrades:

1 - 80 Gold Pieces
2 - Granite - Wending Woods

Sergeant Maverlies Basement Seal Quests:

1 - After the initial "Assault on Vigil's Keep" Speak to Sergeant Maverlies and Purge the Darkspawn from the Basement.
2 - After completing a major plot quest - Return to the Basement and continue to purge the Darkspawn. When completed, Voldrik will seal the Ancient Doors.

The Achievement will pop-up when you get all these upgrades. For me it was when I returned the Silverite Ore to Herren. This was before "The Point of No Return"

You can work on this Trophy as soon as you freed the Keep and are free to roam it.

The whole thing consists of two parts:

1. Helping Voldrik to fortify the Keep itself

2. Getting the guards some good equipment

Fortifying the Keep

Talk to Voldrik near the Keep's gate. He wants to upgrade/repair the walls to dwarven standard and asks 80 Sovereigns for it. Pay him (you should have enough coin if you imported a character from the main game). Talk to him again after you did your next main quest. He'll need some granite to continue. You can find it in the Wending Woods next to the raided caravan pretty much at the beginning of the map. Return and tell him where to find it.

Equipment for the guards

Herren and Wade have a smithy in the Keep's courtyard. They are looking for ore deposits to make quality gear for you. There are three deposits total you'll have to find.

Veridium Ore: You can find it during a side quest called "It comes from beneath". Talk to Sergeant Maverlies to start it. She's waiting in the courtyard in front of a smaller house. The side quest consists of two parts. It'll be halted pretty much in the middle because your workers will have to clear some rubble. Do another quest and they should be done when you return. Continue and you'll find the deposit in the last room with Adria.

Iron Ore: This one can be found during the main quest in Kal'Hirol. It's in the Trade Quarter at the Forge.

Silverite Ore: It's in the Silverite Mines. You'll also come here during a main quest. The deposit is in the room with the two experimental subjects.

Start working on this as soon as you can. You'll have to run some errands for a dwarf named Voldrik and some old friends from Denerim. Voldrik wants to upgrade the walls to dwarven standards. Pay him 80 sovereigns (gold pieces) to get the work started. After the first story quest, he'll tell you that he needs granite to finish the job. There is a granite deposit in the Wending Wood just to the east of the entrance to the Silverite Mine.

The other upgrade is for your old friends. They'll ask you to find ore deposits so they can make weapons and armor for the soldier's of Vigil's Keep. There are three deposits out there. Two of them follow the main story, the third is from a side quest in Vigil's Keep ("It Came From Beneath"). The iron ore is in Kal'Hirol. The silverite ore is in the Silverite Mine in the Wending Wood. The veridium ore is in the basement of Vigil's Keep.

If you are short of gold, there is a legal way to make money by making runes.

To do this, you need to learn the initial skill - Making Runes.
It is available for any character of any class, starting from level 20.

You will need to do the Formidable Rune.
But first you need to buy a copy of it. It is sold by the gunsmith gnome Glassrick at the Amaranthine market for 8 gold.

As soon as you purchase a copy of the rune.
You will need to purchase the following ingredients - Novice Immunity Rune, Novice Silverite Rune, empty runestones and etching reagent.

The cost of purchasing all the ingredients to create one Terrible Rune will be: 1 gold 74 silver 35 copper , but you can sell this finished rune for: 3 gold 2 silver 50 copper.

That is, the net profit from the sale of one finished rune will be 1 gold 46 silver 15 copper.

You can spend just an hour and get more than 1000 gold profit as a result.
However, if you sell Sera (throne room trade) more than 999 runes of the same type, a glitch will occur and her trade screen will no longer open.
Alternatively, you can sell runes to Uraya or Herren. So don't worry.

When you make runes, you should have enough free space in your backpack, since any rune takes up one place, that is, if you bought two beginner Immunity runes, then they will take up 2 places in the backpack, not one.
But bottles of etching reagent or empty rune stones will take up one place each, even if there are 99 of them (this is the maximum capacity of the cell).

To free up space in your backpack, dump all the items in it into the chest in the Throne Room.

You can skip the achievement!
1. Complete the orders of the gnome Waldrik in the Tower of Vigil:
a) pay 80 gold to upgrade the fortress walls;
b) when Waldrik needs granite - it is located in the Vending Forest east of the entrance to the mines.
2. Mine ore for the Denerim couple in the Vigil Tower (trader and blacksmith):
a) iron ore is located in Kal'Hirol (Kal Hirol);
b) sylvirite ore is located in the Silvirite Mine itself;
c) veridium ore is located in the dungeon under the Vigilance Tower
After discovering the last ore, talk to the merchant and the achievement will open.
