How to unlock the Gigantus, I Hardly Knew Ye achievement in Dragon's Dogma 2 - Definitive Guide

After the main quest named A New Godsway you will be given a new main quest to stop Gigantus which starts immediately after a cutscene of Phaseus passing through the Flamebearer Palace Spellseal Door, so after A New Godsway go through that door as well. Eventually it will walk ashore and you will have a couple of minutes before a cutscene occurs. To stop it for the achievement you must destroy all of the purple crystals assumedly before that cutscene. As an Archer this was very easy but for a melee character you will have to climb it. You can also use the Arrow of Unmaking to stop it, but that's up to you.

I had destroyed all of the crystals on him 20 seconds before the cutscene and he continued to walk until the cutscene and stopped immediately after. the achievement popped immediately after that cutscene.

As a melee character the crystals on the arms will likely be an issue. Bring a lot of stamina restoring food and possibly hire an Archer pawn. Your pawns will climb it and attack the crystals.

Edit: You can save at an inn, use the arrow of unmaking on him and reload the inn save. Also using the medusa head locks you of the "I, Talos" achievement so that's not recommended.

I used the Unmaking arrow and reloaded inn save after. I will note the achievement didn't pop until it was in land a bit more than I expected.

I feel like I'll just save at an inn and use the unmaking arrow for this achievement, then reload the inn save to experience the fight for real. lmao

That's a very good idea. I haven't really used the Inn save method to do anything but that definitely makes it extremely easy.

I tried the normal way and one crystal (the last one) was invincible. I, then decided to use the unmaking arrow which destroyed the last one. He kept walking until the lava area. The ballista shot his arm off in a sequence, but he kept walking.. He then broke down later without a cutscene or achievement.
Thank god i have an inn save...

To everyone one worrying about the achievement not popping up before the cutscene, don't worry the achievement will pop up once the Giant is on land, around 20 or 30 seconds after her passes under the bridge

You could beat him with a Medusas head, but you'll miss the "I, Talos" achievement

I was planning on using the medusa head, thank you Tenreth for mentioning it locks you out of "I, Talos," I had no idea.

Ah, that's silly. I'll put it in solution. Personally in both of my playthroughs I had no issue with Archer or Mystic Archer in defeating him before the camp cutscene, but it seems like the unmaking/inn save reload is probably the best way to do it.

Easy way to kill fast

An easy way to this is being an archer (or warfarer equipped with a bow).

Many guides will tell you to shoot the unmaking arrow at him. That instantly kills any enemy.
That's an option, but you only get up to two of those arrows per playthrough and using one here seems like a bit of a waste to me, you can save those for harder bosses.

Explosive arrows are easy to make and do the job too.

Just shoot explosives at the purple crystals on his body.
The first shot plants the explosive, shooting again with a normal arrow causes an explosion.

With a strong bow it just took me one explosive arrow per crystal to destroy it.

Start shooting the first crystals where you first come in shooting distance when he is still in the water. Then hurry on to the beach to welcome him there and destroy the remaining crystals. You'll easily have them all destroyed on the beach.

The Gigantus will still keep walking on his scripted route for a few minutes until a cutscene plays where he is killed near the camp, don't worry. The moment the crystals are gone is what counts, the game just needs him to reach a certain point to play its story cutscene so he's a dead man walking.

The trophy unlocks when the cutscene plays.

I heard that. The reason I didn't try:

There is another trophy for reviving the Gigantus later on. With the Medusa head I had enemies fall to pieces.

I was worried if the Gigantus crumbles and no corpse is left I may not be able to revive it later on. I don't know if that would be an issue but I wasn't gonna risk my platinum for it.

If it works fine, all the better. Easy enough to get Medusa heads. I just felt the Unmaking arrow was a complete waste for this.
