The easiest way to get this achievement is to simply ignore the enemy aces.
go for the grunts and let everybody else do the rest.
Doing this should easily get you the achievement in 3 games, less if you play against a mobile armour since the grunts respawn.

do the suits you take down while waiting for other players count towards the achievement?

Sorry this took so long and im sure you already have it by now but anyway.
No only suits shot down during the actual mission count.
