How to unlock the Lifer achievement in Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon - Definitive Guide

All Dressed Up and Lifer Achievement Solution

Exp needed for Rank 8: 793,500
For all four armors, exp needed is 3,174,000.

The maximum score/exp you can gain from playing a level is 65,500. I've confirmed this on a few levels on both Hard and Inferno difficulties. Predalien90 in the comments confirms Normal has the same cap. 65K is attainable with patience along with any spawn nests, hills, or drop ships.

If grinding to max score from the start of a class, you would need to play ~12.1 levels, or 48 (plus a bit) total sessions for all armors.

Score/exp on Normal, Hard and Inferno for regular spawning enemies. (If score/exp on Normal is X, Hard is X*3, and Inferno is X*9.)
Ticks: 1, 3, 9
Ants: 5, 15, 45
Spiders: 6, 18, 54
Gunships: 6, 18, 54
Metal Ants: 7, 21, 63
Metal Spiders: 8, 24, 72

Some good grinding spots.
The Cube: Level 2-5. Towards the end, before you fight the four elite "bosses", there is a crater with two broken silos. Here, 3 Metal Ant hills spew out ~15 ants per go. If bored of ants, after you seal off these three, a Metal Spider nest appears, and spawns 16 spiders.

Invasion Alert: Level 1-1. There are two separate ant hills. The first spawns 6 at a time, the second spawns 12.

Via Predalien90 in the comments, and Soulrift X on XBL...
Alternately, if you "speed run" Level 1-1 on Inferno with a higher ranking character and good weapons, you can earn 20K-25K in a short amount of time.

The second ant hill on 1-1 is definitely the best "AFK" grind spot. Get a homing weapon, and head east across the park and just shoot back where the anthill is - rubber band or tape your right trigger down and go do something else. Depending on rank, armour and weapon type, it takes about 30 minutes - 2 hours to hit about 65,550.

Thought the best idea is to stop around 60,000 and finish the level, cause you gotta do that anyways and you'll pick up the extra 5k then.

65,500 is the credit cap on all difficulties.

actually, you should start advancing towards the second hill in 1-1 once you pass the 58k mark. even if you dont hit 65.5k with the run-through, this is better than wasting time by capping out.

Jet Armor with Pesticide Rifle and Goatshrike e11 6 homing missles. Moves quick, can clear out level 1-1 in 1/4 of the time with rifle takes about 35-40 min of AFK homing missles from a long distance away. After getting all armor to level 8. You have about 60 65K XP runs to do so roughly 50-60 hours of AFK work if you do it legit you could probably shave about 20 hours off that time, but screw that.

There are 8 levels per armor class. You can reach up to level 5 in normal difficulty, level 7 in hard difficulty and level 8 in inferno difficulty. You do not gain xp in Survival mode. You can theoretically grind out your xp in Chapter 1 of Inferno if you want to focus simply on that task. Considering how many kills are required it may be simpler and less of a headache to just run through the game with each armor class normally. Choice is yours. Also be aware that your xp won't save until you complete the mission. If you fail the mission your xp will be lost.

The following is the xp required for each Level:

  • Level 1: Default
  • Level 2: 1,500 xp
  • Level 3: 11,400 xp
  • Level 4: 25,000 xp
  • Level 5: 55,000 xp
  • Level 6: 138,000 xp
  • Level 7: 379,500 xp
  • Level 8: 793,500 xp

Additionally each class' weapons are Tiered according to the current xp level. For example: If you are at Level 3 xp then you have access to the Tier 3 Weapons for that class.

Grind Spot:

(Use this grind spot when trying to get up to rank 5)

You can get approximately 3500xp (in normal difficulty) by completing Chapter 3, Mission 4. You'll want to grind this solo so you can get as many of the kills for yourself. Your first big fight in this mission is against a horde of ants and spiders; kill like crazy. Eventually 3 small Hectors will arrive; defeat them. After this fight you move onto the major boss battle. The trick here is to not kill her. An infinite amount of ants, spiders and wasps will spawn as you're attempting to defeat the boss. Kill as many of the minor enemies as you can. You'll earn anywhere from 5-15xp for each kill and there are a ton of them. It takes me approximately 20 minutes to finish this Mission. If you're playing it solo your AI teammates will eventually take down the final boss. Even with them taking her down eventually I'm averaging 3500 xp points from the minor enemy kills.

(use this grind spot to max out at level 8)

Start up Chapter 1, Mission 1 on Inferno. Make sure you are at least a level 5-6. By completing this level solo with the bots off (change bots to off in the options prior to starting the game) you can earn up anywhere from 18,000-22,000 xp in approximately 20 minutes.

If you have a boosting partner that has an armor class upgraded to Level 8 you can speed up your process by having them carry your lower armor classes through Mission 1, Chapter 1 on Inferno. You won't be able to destroy anything because your weapons are too weak but if they have the pesticide gun they can do all of the killing for you and you'll still earn approximately 10,000 xp for objectives. You'll only need to run through it 5 times or so to reach Level 5 and then you can proceed to tackle the grinding yourself with better weapons.

There are eight levels for every armor type, and the final level can only be earned while playing on Inferno difficulty. You can unlock up to Rank 5 in Normal difficulty or Rank 7 on Hard. Your "score" at the top of the screen during a level is how much experience you will earn after its completion. The more kills you get, the more experience. Higher difficulties will offer better experience, so the first mission on Inferno is a good starting point until you get up to Tier 6 or 7 and can handle the rest. Chapter 1, Mission 4 is fairly quick and offers great experience due to the many ant hills. Once you can handle it efficiently, Chapter 3, Mission 3 offers the best experience. Also, once you beat the game you can play again and turn the AI off, so you can get every single kill in a level. Be aware that you do not earn experience in Survival Mode.

Level 1: Default
Level 2: 1,500xp
Level 3: 11,400xp
Level 4: 25,000xp
Level 5: 55,000xp
Level 6: 138,000xp
Level 7: 379,500xp
Level 8: 793,500xp

You will need 3,174,000xp to fully upgrade all four armors.
