Text from D4rkTrooper90's solution below:
To obtain a gold medal you must group all enemies together on each round and fight them all in 1 big battle.

Whenever possible wait for the enemies to walk close to each other before engaging them and be careful when you have to pull one group to another as it's easy for some enemies to fall behind and mess your whole run up.
Some extra notes for this version of the game:

> Olia's overworld ability (Taunt/Shout) can help ensure that you trigger all enemies in the area. Keep mashing cn_X once you're ready to fight and press cn_B once the enemy count covers all enemies in the current Round.

> I would recommend your battle party be at Levels 10+ for the Zaber Tournament.

> I would recommend your battle party be at Levels 13+ for the Suvia Tournament.

> Multiple party configurations are viable, but an easier one would be Gnart/Taika + Amon/Olia. Have Gnart use Magic Focus to buff Taika's AOE abilities and use Heal S to full-heal the party whenever required. Amon/Olia can take care of enemies with physical attacks and Blaster S is also useful.

The tournaments in the game are available as part of the story. There are only two of them, one in Zaber and one in Suvia. You will need to complete the one in Zaber first, as this rewards you with a token that allows you to participate in Suvia. Once you arrive to fight the Suvia tournament, the story takes a turn and you won't be able to right away. It's best to save it for later anyway though. To get a Gold ranking you will need to complete the tournament in the fewest amount of battles possible. There are five rounds to get through, and a Gold requires that you only fight five battles. So you'll need to round up every enemy that spawns and take them on at once.

The Zaber tournament is no problem. However, the enemies in the second half of the game are tougher, so coming back and doing Suvia when you're 16+ is ideal. You can leave it until after the story even, so don't feel rushed at all. Make sure your super abilities are charged and you switch stances between battles depending on what types of enemies you're facing. Once you get Gnart's whirlwind super ability, you can wipe out the first wave in one shot and it should be charged back up by the fourth wave to do the same to them. Use Amon's super on the second and fifth and this will be a breeze.
