How to unlock the Pole Position achievement in F1 2011 - Definitive Guide

Simple enough. Make sure you're entered into a race weekend in Career Mode. Make sure you finish in the Qualifying Round (2nd round in a Short Race Weekend; 4th round in a Long Race Weekend) in first place, which grants you Pole Position. This can be obtained in both Short and Long Race Weekends, but must be done in Career Mode!

Obviously, playing with the difficulty set to Easy and all driving assists on makes this achievement easier to obtain.

To get a pole position, you need to end the qualifying session with the fastest time, which will mean you start the Race in 1st. If you are doing a long race weekend, qualifying will be broken up into 3 sessions. You need to be in the top 17 in the first session to get through to the second, the top 10 in the second session to get through to the 3rd and final session, where the actual grid lineup is decided. So you will need to be in first place at the end of it. If you are doing a short race weekend then qualifying will just be one 20 minute session that decides everything, so you just need to end this in 1st place and you'll get the trophy. This is only for career mode.

Within Career mode you must qualify with the fastest time to unlock this achievement. The simplest way to achieve this would be to change the settings to easy (though turn off brake assist) and choose a short race weekend. If you choose a short race weekend, there is only one qualifying session, as opposed to 3 for a long race weekend. Make good use of your KERS and DRS to squeeze out every last second of lap time.
