How to unlock the A Royal Pain achievement in Fairytale Fights - Definitive Guide

A Royal Pain
Play as the Naked Emperor and kill 7 princes with the invisible sword in 1 play session.

This is done in Chapter 10. The Invisible Sword is located in a treasure chest on a balcony that is only reachable by dying. Having fought your way through a procession of guards you'll arrive upon an open area with the 'Gator Gauntlet' cut scene. Run up to the top of the screen to the waterfalls and step into it. This should kill you, if not keep moving about until you die. When you respawn, this will be obvious because the camera angle will change, you should be on the balcony next to a chest. Exit the balcony through the door behind you.

If this is your first play through you should be aware that this will cause you to skip the majority of Chapter 10 and port you directly in front of the castle entrance.. It's no big deal because the chapter is long and tedious and will save you many pointless deaths.

Also if your are playing this on higher levels other than casual I suggest that you always keep the Invisible Sword as your secondary weapon when encountering environmental challenges. As your equipped weapon tends to be dropped when you're killed.

The princes will appear in groups of three to four in the bed chambers, the dancing hall and a dinning hall. I didn't get my seventh until almost out of the castle.

Below is a video showing the way to get to the Invisible Sword.

Thanks! Took a little bit of work at the waterfall, but all else worked perfectly.

Does anyone know if these are the princesses or the princes!?!? Damn I thought I was suppose to be killing just princesses. Are the princes the blonde hair guys that usually carry two swords? Also I lost my damn invisible sword with those dancing saw blades in the castle. So yeah tuck the weapon in your inventory everytime you respawn!

Shemp, I thought the princes were the harmless people, but I was wrong. So yea, it's the blonde hair guys with two swords. You probably have the achievement by now, but still, just pointing it out. Splice, another secret bites the dust. :)

The achievement icon is misleading, it does look like a girl but it's the dudes you want.

I've followed the video and walked inside the waterfall numerous times, but it doesn't kill me. I've moved around in there for ten minutes and restarted the level a couple of times now, anyone else having this problem?

Did you stay to the right side of the water fall? I believe I was killed near the rocks after being completely covered by water for about 10 seconds.

Watched every video I could find about the waterfall. Tried multiple times in my own game, both with friendly fire on and off, tried jumping and moving all around, going into the right side of the waterfall or the left, allowing the archer to take my health into the blinking before entering, etc. and NOTHING even causes the camera angle to switch to the balcony, let alone actually kill me. Guess this is one achievement I'll simply have to skip.

First off, splice's solution is great. Read it, watch the video.

However, there are a few things wrong with it or at least what I feel to be inaccurately explained.

1. DYING DOESN'T CHANGE THE CAMERA, YOU DO! You must get your character behind the waterfall. I had to JUMP to get completely back there. Once you're back there, the camera changes.

2. ONCE THE CAMERA CHANGES, IT STAYS THERE. The camera won't move back once you've gotten it to change (like in the video). It may possibly move if you go far enough away from the balcony, but I couldn't get it to move.

3. AFTER THE CAMERA CHANGES, YOU NEED TO DIE, BUT THE WATERFALL WILL NOT KILL YOU. Walk back out of the waterfall and die. There are plenty of the bear traps lying around for you to run into. I think that's what people are actually doing when they think the waterfall is killing them. You're simply walking into a bear trap.

4. ALWAYS SHEATHE YOUR INVISIBLE SWORD WHEN NOT FIGHTING PRINCES (LB). This way you're guaranteed to still have it when you run into some.

EDIT: It appears this MUST be done in single player.

Good luck!

I got this last night and couldn't have done it without both this and splice's guide. Good work. A few extra pieces of information that might help (or discourage) you.

I died to the tank after the second set of swirling slicers and dropped my invisible sword. Neither guide states this explicitly, but it seems that unlike other weapons when you drop the invisible sword you CANNOT pick it back up. This definitely adds to the challenge.

Second, because I died where I did, I already had 4 princes killed, so I figured I'd start the level over again (after reaching the auto-save at the end of the Little Giant fight which is a long way further) and then play the level again to get 3 more princes in the "play session". Nope. I killed the same four and no pop. Either it's counting 7 unique spawning princes or it resets the counter for your "play session" when you finish the level. Either way, you have to hit all seven in a single attempt at the level, which means two sets of swirling blades of death, two tanks, a ton of guards, and my 'favorite' the platforming section with bad camera angles and low friction surfaces.

That leads right back to the final point, both guides recommend 'sheathing' your weapon for the environmental hazards (like the platform section or the swirling blades). Fantastic advice. Here's how you do it: cn_LB. It's not mentioned anywhere in these solutions and I'd only figured it out by sheer luck a little bit before.

Switch to the Naked Emperor in Taleville and load up chapter 10. When you reach the waterfall near the archer and crocodiles, go into it. You will see an icon. Break open the treasure chest if you want, but it's not necessary. Here is a foolproof way to get the screen to turn around when inside the waterfall:

Stand in front of where the treasure chest is inside the waterfall. Jump towards it and keep pressing X to jump constantly. I have tested this and it works every time. Now you have to look in the background. You'll barely see yourself, but you need to walk into one of the traps to spawn on the balcony. When you are on the balcony, open the treasure chest and grab the Invisible Sword.

Now just use this weapon throughout the whole level and you should have the trophy when you kill all the enemies in one of the wrestling rooms (possibly the second).
