How to unlock the Blast Mastery achievement in Fallout: New Vegas - Definitive Guide

You will get this through normal game play as long as you are using Energy weapons (e.g Plasma Rifle, Laser Gun and so forth). Also if you have companions with you it will hinder the damage count some. For every HP of damage they do that is less towards your damage. Which I think is a fair trade off since you get the XP for everything they kill.
You can also find the Tesla-Beaton prototype. It's located exactly south of the Matthews Animal Husbandry Farm in a crater where a plane has crashed. Consumes about 45 electron charge packs per shot and does around 135 dmg depending on your energy weapons skill, but to get it you have to fight through some sentry bots and mister gutsy bots as well.
Thank You Foxfire49 for pointing out the Tesla-Beaton.
Update:
Thank You Undead Immortal for pointing this out!
You can keep track of this by going into your PipBoy under Data - Misc - Then press Y to bring up the Challenges press X once to go to next Challenge type then Scroll down and find Blaster Master.

Note: I have won this achievement on another account, but it was compromised so I just made a new account and I just haven't gotten around to playing again.

I would recommend for all these 10000 damage achievements, start to try to get them about half way though the game when enemeis have more health. For example, Bighorners have 100 health. Deathclaws have 500 health.

If you have the "Wild Wasteland" trait activated, then you can get hold of the "Alien Blaster" (Also seen in Mothership Zeta DLC for FO3 I think), which is pretty powerful.

If you head north east from Horowitz Farm, you should see a UFO floating above the ridge. By here there should be 3 aliens. One of which will have the blaster. I found this after getting the achievement but it was really powerful. It took Cazadors out in one shot and made short work of Deathclaws too (As its a pistol, VATS gives you plenty of shots also). Comes in perfect condition with about 200 ammo.

With this weapon, you can go after bigger enemies and should make the 10000 in no time.

I can only assume that this is classed as an energy weapon though as I have not used it to get the achievement myself. Confirmation would be appreciated if anyone knows! - *** Confirmed by Gaulty315 - Thanks! ***

Not as far as I am aware. Here is a good video I found on YouTube that shows it quite well (Not mine):

The only time it won't show up is if the "Wild Wasteland" trait is not activated at the start of the game I believe.

Just like to confirm that you DO need "Wild Wasteland", but if you do not have it, I'm told you get a pretty kick ass energy weapon anyway, from a differant event at the exact same location.

If your short on energy weapons and ammo you can also visit the Silver Rush in freeside (area where the kings are) and they deal in energy weapons and ammo for you to buy, same if you raid and kill everyone in the brotherhood of steel bunker in Hidden Valley, they have a pretty good supply of energy weapons and some that do significant damage as well.

I would believe that all damage you do with energy weapons count. You could even clean up goodsprings and get the damage.

I been reading that some of you are freaking out cause like myself i didn't do the waste land trait, but never fear up by where the aliens are to be there is a group of goons.. and one has a very good YCS/186! so grab that and have fun.

Like Gnemlock said, if you dont have the "wild wasteland" trait you will come across a group of mercenarys (look for the smoke from their campfire). One of them will have the "YCS/186" energy weapon. Using MF cells it does 104 DMG and 363 DPS for my character with an energy weapons skill of around 50.

The best weapon to use for this is the Alien Blaster (only available with Wild Wasteland trait).

It can be found by travelling North of Horowitz Farm until you see a group of 3 aliens by a hovering ship. It has 400+ DPS and even with only 65 Points in Energy Weapons I was able to get the achievement in no time at all.

Once you have the Alien Blaster go to The Thorn (by Westside) or Dead Wind Cavern (East of Primm) and kill enemies until the achievement pops.

To start, you will need an energy weapon, either Laser or Plasma based. Note that Plasma based explosives don't count. You can get a Laser pistol right at the start of the game from Doc Mitchel, but after that they are hard to find. Fiends have energy weaponry in large supply for some reason, so they're a good target, as do the Brotherhood of Steel. The Silver Rush sells energy weapons from its almost unlimited supply, but are quite pricey overall. Also don't forget that traveling merchants can repair any weapon for a price, even if you don't have a second weapon to cannibalize for parts.

This trophy will come naturally over time as energy weapons become more common. Playing on Very Easy difficulty you will do 200% normal damage to enemies, making it much easier to accumulate points. To maximize their damage potential ensure that you have a high Energy Weapons skill. If you haven’t received this trophy by level 16, consider taking the Improved Criticals perk which improves critical hit damage by an additional 50%, or the Meltdown perk which causes splash damage as targets are killed. You can keep track of your progress by looking at the "Blaster Master" challenge in your Pip-Boy. Damage inflicted by your companions does not count towards this trophy.

Or if you don’t have the “Wild Wasteland” perk, then you will get a unique improved YCS/186 Gauss cannon with 140 damage but it fires 4 MP batteries not far from the Tumbleweed ranch.
