How to unlock the Hometown Hero achievement in Fallout: New Vegas - Definitive Guide

This is obtained after the following through the main storyline and completing the final quest. Its is awarded after the ending scene.

Make sure your well stocked with ammo and stimpacks going in.

*SPOILER ALERT*
The finale takes place in Ulysses' Temple. You go through a minute of dialogue and then must decide how to finish him off.

*The optional quest is to disable his eyebots which make finishing him significantly easier. The terminals for each are found on the second level on each side of the rocket. It requires a SCIENCE or REPAIR of 100.

After dealing with him and a dozen Marked men, you will head over to the console and decide how you want to end the game.

*Update 9-25-11*

*As indicated by BillJones0302

If you have a SPEECH skill of 95 or higher you can convince him that he is "on the wrong path". He will then join your side and help you defeat the Marked Men. After the fighting he will go his separate way.

^Update 10-20-11

*As Indicated by Kinesis916 & daevv

You have to cancel the missile launch, otherwise you fail the mission.
OR

Launch the missile at the Legion and after the ending you will obtain the achievement plus a new area on the main game will open up.

Actually, you do not have to fight Ulysses. I had a speech skill of 95 and convinced him that he was "on the wrong path". He joined forces with me, defeated the masked men, and went his separate way.

Just an an extra note you have to cancel the missile launch, otherwise you fail the mission. At first I chose to attack the Legion, before reloading a save and cancelling the launch.

The icon for this achievement looks like Judd Nelsons fist pump at the end of The Breakfast Club. Very detailed description - thumbs up.

You don't need to cancel it. I went with attacking the caesar's legion and won the achievement after the nuke blew up.

just to clarify, your Speech skill needs to either be 90 (assuming you found all the holotapes for the Ulysses's Odyssey challenge), or 100 (if you didn't). Obviously, you can always use skill magazines or other items to reach the amount you need.

As far as failing goes, the only way you really fail is if you get killed. Regardless of how you complete the DLC, you will get the achievement.

Therefore, the important question you should ask yourself is what in-game results YOU want to occur, whether for access to specific rewards or for RP reasons. It's even possible to get an Idolized reputation with a faction you nuked if you avoided going too far down the main quest line before completing the DLC. shock

Just a heads up, you CAN miss this achievement as I did. If you kill Ulysses too fast, the marker for dealing with him wont go away and the achievement will not pop. Make sure you take your time killing him or you will be sorry. another tip, rescue ED-E if you want to disable the launch of the missiles. Otherwise, you have to send the missiles somewhere. That being said, save before you go into the final showdown ;)

This is a story related achievement.

This achievement is tied directly to how you conclude your business in The Divide. You will be looking at three possible quests, two of which you must complete in order to finish this DLC:

Which ever path you choose will lead you the closing cut-scene and your achievement. Nice job!

Story related and cannot be missed.

This trophy should unlock after beating Ulysses and stopping the rocket from launching - either by sacrificing ED-E in the process OR by using your speech ability to team up with Ulysses (both ways will earn you the trophy, so no worries here).

A few tips regarding the Final Boss fight in case you decided to fight him:

  • Ulysses will use a Stealthboy shortly after the fight starts, so keep a close
    eye on his movements.
  • While Traveling, try to collect as many auto-stimpaks as you can, because many followers will assist Ulysses which will make gathering those stimpaks pretty much worth it.
  • Ulysses also uses auto-stimpaks, so be sure to fire quickly OR keep firing until he eventually runs out of stimpaks and well... gets killed.
  • Be very sure to search Ulysses's corpse BEFORE stopping the rocket from launching, as he has a unique mask which can give you Rad Resistance +50 (if you didn't, then no worries as you will find them inside a footlocker directly in front of you after the credits are finished ).

At the end of the expansion, you will most likely have to fight with Ulyssess'om. It will take a very long time to kill him with ordinary weapons, he will also have to be treated by mini-robots, plus on top of that there are marked ones running around everywhere. I advise you, before entering his palace, to look into the cave not far from the entrance, there are two more warheads there. Deathclaw Rawl lives there, it’s kind of like a sub-boss. Because it hits very hard, even on easy with 2-3 hits, it seemed much cooler than the legendary Deathclaw in Mojave. If you have cartridges and a good weapon, I advise you to destroy it. 2 shots from Fatman will be enough. Take his hand and make yourself a very powerful hand weapon. Which with 3 hits will put the boss at the end.
