Fallout: New Vegas

Here's how I got this before completing the second main-line quest.

Loot everybody you kill or see killed. Pick up Varmint Rifles, 9mm Pistols, 10mm Pistols, and any other weapon you feel like. Armor wise, grab any Merc outfit, and if you find enough, Wastelander outfits work too.

The guns are repairable by exact copies, or, in the case of Specials, repairable by the lesser version. Any Merc outfit (at least any you will encounter through Level 4) can repair any Merc outfit, as is the same with the Wastelander outfits.

Press B to bring up your Pip-Boy 3000, and hit the LT or RT until you are on the items screen. The left analog stick will now control what you have selected (going up and down) and change the item category (left and right). On an item, you will notice in the top-right corner of the Pip-Boy screen is a set of 4 actions performed by a button on the controller. If you see the Y button lit-up (bright green in color on the default color), you can repair an item. Do this with every item you get, and you will knock this achievement out in no time.

A quick tip, for character creation: get Repair up to around 30 or 35 by the time you are level 3. This is what I've done with my characters, and it definitely helps (especially for this achievement).

Simple to get and I got this one before I even made it to level 3. Just simply repair your items every time you get one identical to the one you already have. e.g. If you have the Hunting rifle the you need another hunting rifle to repair it. If you have a special Such as the weathered 10mm pistol then all you need is the lesser of the model to repair or maintain it such as the 10mm pistol.
I ended up collecting 9mm Pistols, Varmint Rifles and the Powder Gang Armor and just repaired or maintained those until the achievement popped.

Edit: This can also help you get closer to "You Own Barter Town" Achievement.
Due to the fact that the better the condition of the item the more it is worth. Also Having a high Barter Skill can also make this achievement pop faster by raising the value of the items also.

To make this simple and fast acquire the jury rigging perk after level 14. The requirements are on this page.

Once you have that perk it allows you to repair weapons a lot easier by using similar weapons to repair. This will make the process go by very fast. I was able to get it in less than 5 minutes after getting the perk. I just made a save, repaired weapons till I got the achievement, than reverted back to the old save.

Went from 0 repairs to 30 in about 5 mins..

I had messed up in the Casino opposite the Lucky 38 so I emptied all my stuff on the floor outside the Casino except for my Thump Thump and some stimpaks and went in and killed all the gangsters.. taking all there clothes and knifes and weapons and repaired as I went along.. only emptied 2 rooms before I had repaired 30 items.

Emptied all the gangsters gear on the floor outside and picked up my stuff and waltzed off into the sunset with Cass at my side.


This is an old game but I still love it.
