How to unlock the Rocket's Red Glare achievement in Fallout: New Vegas - Definitive Guide

Make sure you have enough caps (around 41500 with a barter skill at around 20, higher barter skill will give a lower price), or enough things to sell to get that many caps.

EDIT: the following method works on all commissary machines, credit to o Smeds o for that information.

On the High Road you will come across a sign which says "travel service", next to this sign is a truck with a commissary on the back, get ED-E to open it. Save the game (just in case), then sell your items until the commissary runs out of caps, it has 6000. Exit the buy/sell menu, then enter again, the commissary should now be back up to 6000 caps. Repeat until you have enough caps for all 3 of the Red Glare upgrades. Beware however, that the commissary will stop restocking caps if you buy anything from it.

Once you have enough caps purchase the 3 Red Glare upgrades, the achievement should pop when you exit the buy/sell menu.

You can now either continue with the upgraded Red Glare but with less caps, or you could reload the save and keep all your caps.

You can actually get this as soon as you find ED-E, right as you are leaving the door you entered into to find his holding pod. Same method applies.

Thanks for that info, I did it at the High Roads one, didn't know if it was a glitch on that specific machine.

Here's what I did that I didn't have to exit the commissary. Just put the three Red Glare upgrades in the purchase menu and then sell all of your items until you can purchase it. Of course, save your game before hand if you don't want these expensive upgrades and then reload.

Qonok, that would only work if you had enough caps or items to get all the caps in one transaction.

Unfortunately, I already beat Lonesome road and I don't have a save file before beating it. So, in order to get this I have to make a Whole new playthrough.

I don't understand, isn't this useless unless you get all your stuff back as well?

Given all the armor and weaponry you get off the Marked Men, and the high resale value of these items, you can get this quickly and easily. Just save before you purchase, and reload when you're done (unless you're dying for those upgrades, which really aren't that great). Save your money for Gun Runner Arsenal weapons.

Completists will want to keep the upgrades; I strongly suggest adding this tip to the solution:

Selling stuff like the Marked Men armor and Super Sledges and Blades of the West (of which you'll get plenty right off in the DLC) will quickly net you the required caps. Then you can just buy the upgrades and keep them without much fuss.

With jury rigging you can fully repair all the Marked Men armour with Raider armour and Blades of the West and Super Sledges with baseball bats and other cheap items. This is how I'm going to make easy caps. :)

Attempted today, 15/10/12, and thr "Enter/Exit" tip for replenishing Caps at the Machine didn't work, last updated NV around 2 weeks ago via XBL, so not sure if it's been patched or whether I simppy got unlucky, but considering the amount of high value items within the first hour of Lonesome Road, I can't see this being an issue at all, so easy to make money its unreal . . .

Just thought i'd pass that along in case anyone else suffers a similar issue.

You need to purchase the following mods:
- Red Glare Alpha Strike (Increases speed of rockets.) 11,816
- Red Glare Auto Launcher (Increases Fire Rate) 11,267
- Red Glare Far Sighting (Increases zoom level.) 11,541
That is the lowest cost with a Barter Skill of 100

An easy way to get this really early in the dlc is after you wake up ED-E from the stasis chamber, turn around, and next to the door you came in is a commissary, just have ED-E activate it, and buy the upgrades.

Note: If you find fault with my solution, leave a comment why, and I'll do my best to fix it.

This is the fastest way to unlock the achievement. Thumbs up from Me!! The 8 negatives are probably from people who don't know how to save their caps and buy the upgrades at the beginning of the DLC. Great solution.

Caps wasn't a big deal for me at this point in the game, this was the last cheevo I needed to finish this DLC......just went in, freed Ed-E, opened the commissary, bought the upgrades, and got out of the divide!

If you have discovered the place " High Road Entrance " and walk a little bit forward you see a military truck on the right hand side of the high way, it has this big terminal on the back which you need ED-E to unlock it ( after unlocking it choose the "Access Commissary " option ) and its basicly a place were you can barter so you can get all the upgrades for this achievement before reaching the end. But make sure you have LOTS of money (41500), so make a save first then just sell everything ( if you have lots of expensive stuff like I did ) then as soon as you back out of the dialogue stuff the achievement should pop and if you want all your money back just reload the save and carry on like nothing happened.

Easiest way to get this is right after activating EDE when you start Lonesome Road. Have him activate the commissary for you then purchase each of the Red Glare upgrades. They cost around 14k a piece depending on your barter skill. The good news is you don't have to own all three at once to get trophy; you can buy one, back out of menu, resell and buy the next until you have bought all three.

You only have to acquire 3 mods you only need to buy one mod and sell it back for a different mod and repeat
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THIS ACHIEVEMENT MIGHT ALSO BE MISSABLE IF YOU DO NOT USE ED-E TO UNLOCK ANY COMISSARY BEFORE HE IS DESTROYED

The Divide's signature weapon is called Red Glare. During your exploration of the Divide, you will come across many enemies who will be using the Red Glare.

Simply kill one of them and get his weapon (it's a very large weapon that shoots rockets rapidly). After that, use one of upgrading machines (Commissary Terminal) that ED-E can activate for you, then go to Access Commissary and buy the only 3 upgrades required. They are:

  1. Red Glare Auto-Launcher
  2. Red Glare Far Sighting
  3. Red Glare Alpha Strike

You only have to buy them for the trophy to pop. So if you don't find a Red Glare then don't worry, as the trophy only requires you to buy the upgrades.

The Divide has one signature weapon called Red Glare. Red Glare is a missile launcher you can pick up when you are tasked with picking up the laser detonator. Red Glare's upgrades can be randomly found throughout The Divide, but it is very rare. There are a few techniques you can employ in order to get the three upgrades though:

  • Possess just over 34,000 caps and when ED-E opens up any commissary you can buy they from there. If you plan on using Red Glare the caps are well spent on these upgrades as it makes this weapon much better.
  • If you do not have 34,000 caps in pure cap form you can sell enough goods in order to afford the upgrades, purchase them, and then just load your previous save to simply avoid having to waste your items/cap collection.
  • Previously mentioned it is possible to randomly find these upgrades throughout The Divine although it is very rare.

*Note* This can be completed AFTER finishing the main storyline.

To get the trophy you need to buy all 3 upgrades for weapons. they are located in the Hopeville Silo Bunker Entrance location (the very first bunker at the beginning of the add-on). Once we entered it, we go forward, then into the right passage and immediately in the next room, on the wall to the left, there will be a “store” where you need to purchase them. the price of 3 improvements is 34624 caps. This method can be done at the end of the game or at the beginning, Immediately after ED-E activates the “magazine” for you.

You can buy upgrades in any store, everyone has them! To save money, take off clothes from killed enemies and any more or less expensive junk and unnecessary weapons, let ED-E carry it all, then sell everything to these stores.

I came into the zone with 12,000 caps, and left with more than 20,000, selling all sorts of junk to stores, while buying all the upgrades.
