How to unlock the That Lucky Old Sun achievement in Fallout: New Vegas - Definitive Guide

This achievement starts at Helios power plant. Ounce you discover the location a women will prompt you to identify yourself. After all the introductions she will tell you to talk to Fantastic (yes thats his name)

He will tell you to reroute the solar panels to the strip. You must first get two codes, one of which he gives you and the second which a guy in the next room gives you.

After you have the codes head outside and go to the terminals. Ounce that is completed you must go inside to the tower. Fight some robots and such.

NOTE: You can disable the turrets in a door nearby the entrance and also pick up the fix things book near the door you must go in.

Follow the path until you reach the room with the generator. You must repair it and if your repair level isn't high enough just read the book and you should be alright it adds 10 points to the repair skill.

Then you can set the solar to wherever you want. I sent it to the strip and carravan just to be sure to get the achievement, Not sure if you send it elsewhere if you'll still get the achievement.

Head to the watch tower and bing 20g's

If you have sufficient science skills you can also repair the maintenance bot, who will repair the Helios mainframe (not a generator) for you.

BTW if you attack and kill the guard dogs in one of the terminal tents (the one with the sandbag walls), the NCR will become hostile, just a heads up.

@Subjekt, I killed the dogs and NCR are still neutral, most of them were out front or sleeping on those little loungers though.

In order to repair the generator you need a repair skill of 35 and some scrap metal which you can easily get from any of the robot guards.

btw if you reroute the power to the satellite, and you buy the toy gun off the little kid chasing around his sister in freeside, then each day you get the ability to use that gun to call down a satellite solar airstrike totally anihillating everything. :P its so awesome!

This is a good video guide I found. All credit for the guide goes to omegaared16. I had nothing to do with the production of the video.

I did not get the achievement where you got it. I had to talk to a guy named fantastic after. I guess it depends on your story progression.

In short you will have to repair the Helios One mainframe, distribute its power and initiate reflector retargeting to distribute the power to one or several locations. Or you use the power to arm the Archimedes I or the Archimedes II orbital laser. This can be done in multiple ways and you will have to bear the consequences.

Therefore, for a detailed walkthrough I highly recommend you use this guide:

HELIOS One can be found just North of Novac. This Solar Plant is under the NCR's control, but they have not found a way to power it. When you approach this plant, you will be greeted by Lt. Haggerty. After a talk with her, you will be given the quest. Complete it, and the achievement will unlock. Check out a full walkthrough here.

Journal Entries:

  1. Talk to the idiot wearing sunglasses in the back of the HELIOS One plant building.
  2. Connect to the HELIOS One mainframe from the western reflector control terminal.
  3. Connect to the HELIOS One mainframe from the eastern reflector control terminal.
  4. Restore power to the HELIOS One mainframe via an auxiliary generator.
  5. Use the HELIOS One mainframe to send power to a destination of your choosing.
  6. OPTIONAL: Arm ARCHIMEDES security system to wipe out all nearby NCR soldiers.
  7. Initiate reflector retargeting from the console on the tower observation deck.
  8. Talk to Fantastic.
  9. Talk to Ignacio.

Note: There is a glitch here that will earn you 350xp, 3 stimpacks and 2 doctor's bags upon completing the quest. You will have to talk to Ignacio and he'll continuously have the option of completing the quest. This option never goes away, so you can repeatedly earn the rewards. This glitch HAS been patched, however, but can still be used if you clear your cache and play the game offline without the update.

This mission is a side quest received at the HELIOS One power plant, usually from speaking with Lt. Haggerty outside.

The mission itself is straightforward. Regardless of what you decide to do with the power, the mission ends with activating the Reflector Control Panel.

As a side note, if you secure Euclid's C-Finder, you can choose to route the power to ARCHIMEDES II and gain the ability to call down an orbital strike once per day between the hours of 9 AM and 3 PM for ridiculous amounts of damage. You can try to get it from Max in Freeside as part of the sidequest "I Could Make You Care" by offering him a substantial number of caps, but the easiest way to get this is to wait till he goes to sleep on the second floor of the building to the right of Mick & Ralph's and then pickpocket him.

Or if you prefer, choosing "Full Region" but not emergency power will also net you an extra Big Book of Science! Thanks to karnsatron for the tip!

You can take one from the HELIOS power station. As you enter, turn to the right, then through the stairs to the laboratory. Fantastic will be released. You will need to deal with the terminals, then distribute the energy to the location of your choice. We turn in the quest, the trophy is yours.

You can also redirect energy to the Helios-2 station, and it will be possible to launch satellite strikes every 24 game hours. To do this, you need a pistol "Algorithm Euclide" he is in Frisade where the little Niger is running with him. With the barter skill, you can lure him out for 20 caps, or you will have to take it for 1000))) Well, you can, using the skill of communicating with children, pretend to be Captain Galaxy and steal a gun from the boy. Well, it seems something like this
