How to unlock the A Round of Applause achievement in FINAL FANTASY IX - Definitive Guide

Early in the game, there will be a play. After the battle on stage, Zidane and Blank will have a little sword fight quick time event, where blank will call out the button presses. Do all of these correctly and the nobles will call for an encore.

IMPORTANT

Get 100 of 100 nobles to be impressed, as well as queen Brahne. Once you gain control of Steiner, go back upstairs to queen Brahne first. She will then give you your first moonstone. This is the first step to getting one of the missable achievements:

Final Fantasy IXOver the MoonThe Over the Moon achievement in Final Fantasy IX worth 217 pointsObtain 4 moonstones.

It's worth noting that if you don't quite impress 100 nobles (I got 98 first time despite getting everything right but maybe wasn't fast enough) you can keep giving them an encore and try again as long as they demand one. I got 100 on my second attempt and got the moonstone. This saves you having to quit out of the game and reload in case you're worried you've screwed it up.

WHERE
Alexandria Castle (When trying to kidnap Garnet)

WHEN
During the performance of "I Want to Be Your Canary" at the start of the game

RULES
Press the buttons according to Blank's instructions. If you press the correct button, Zidane will do the corresponding move but if you press the wrong button or if you fail to press the button within a certain period of time, it will be counted as a mistake and Zidane will fall to the ground. After the act, you will be shown the percentage of the nobles who were satisfied by the performance. After that, you can choose to do the fight again, or continue the story.

HOW THE GAME WORKS
Blank will give you a total of 49 commands and, with every command, the delay in pressing the button and the number of times you have pressed the correct buttons consecutively will be checked. the quicker you press the buttons, and the higher the chain of successful button presses, the more nobles in the audience will be impressed if you have not entered an incorrect command (or missed one). Also, even if you manage to fail every command, there will still be at least one noble in the audience who is impressed.

Number of impressed nobles and their reaction:

1-29: The audience is booing...
30-49: The audience did not enjoy it.
50 - 74: The audience seemed to like it.
75 - 100: They demand an encore!

When you are about to leave the stage, you will be given some money by the audience. The better you were at the sword fight, the more money you get.

---

Also, when you are controlling Steiner, you can go to the Throne to visit the queen, and she will give you an item according to the number of nobles you have impressed. The money you get at the end depends on how well the last fight was performed. The item you get from the queen is a result based on the highest record of you performances.

Number of nobles being impressed and the item gained:

Under 50: Ether
50 to 79: Elixer
80 to 99: Silk Shirt
100: Moonstone

This is imperative to the Moonstone achievement.

At the begining of the game there is a "fight sequence" that you have to perform as part of the play. Basically a quick time event where you hit the correct button when it comes up. Do this without a mistake and you will get the encore request.

MISSABLE

You must earn a score above 80 during the sword duel mini-game at the beginning of the game during the performance of I Want To Be Your Canary for the nobles to demand an encore and obtain this trophy. Blank will shout out random commands and you must press the button he shouts out to perform the action, then he will shout another command and so on until the end of the duel. The buttons he will shout out are: , , , , , , and but there are 50 commands in total.

The key to getting a good score during this mini-game is luck. Of course, pressing all the buttons correctly plays a large part but it is not enough. Also, the buttons Blank shouts out have an effect on the score as well. If Blank is only shouting out and , the chances of getting a good score diminish. However, if he shouts out a lot of and , your chances of getting a good score increase. The buttons mustn't be pressed too quickly or too slowly but must be pressed in a manner that the duel will flow smoothly.

You must be patient. Don't get too aggravated and annoyed as that will only throw you off. Keep pressing the buttons at a constant rhythm and hope for some and prompts. If you don't make it after the end of the duel, just try again and with some more practice, you will have it in no time.

The duel can be replayed as many times as you like until the audience demand an encore (which defeats the purpose of earning an encore in the first place) and if you want all the trophies, then you will need a score of 100 to obtain the first Moonstone for Over the Moon.

Directly in the beginning of the game, you will act out a play with your troupe. In a sword fight with Blank, you will be tasked with pressing directions on the D-Pad or hitting face buttons at Blank's request. You need to respond to these fairly quickly, and keep the flow of the battle moving. It's fairly simple and I was able to get a full score on my first try.

If you fail, you can simply try again right away. Keep going until you get 100/100. To get an encore and unlock this achievement, you only need a score of 80 out of 100 but to get a Moonstone for "Over the Moon", you must get a full 100/100 so aim for that.

At the very beginning of the game, Blank and Zidane will play a sword fight scene. You need to press the buttons in time. At the end of the battle they will show how many of the spectators were satisfied. You need at least 79 out of 100.
