How to unlock the Emerald Eviscerator achievement in FINAL FANTASY VII - Definitive Guide

There are many ways to defeat Emerald Weapon and many are very time consuming.

I highly recommend to use the "cheats" in the game.

I used a team with Barret, Cid and Cloud all with level 4 Limit brakes.

Barrets 4th limit can you get in Old Corel after the train sequence later in the game.

Cids 4th limit can you get in the sunken Gelnika ship also later in the game.

Clouds 4th limit can be super time consuming. You have to battle in the battle square inside the Gold Saucer "on disc 3" and get 32.000 battle points to buy his limit. And here is the point what makes this also time consuming. You need 10GP (Gold Saucer points) to battle. For each battle you can get around 3000-10.000 Battle Points. And if fail a battle for this fight you get 0. There are many ways to obtain GP. The Easiest is to "buy" them. Sometimes there is a guy on this spot at the Gold Saucer.
External image
If not just leave and come back again. Here you can buy up to 100GP with 10.000Gil. I highly recommend to rack up 1000GP for 100 battles.

After you have enough GP you can go battle. The battle mechanics are more ore minor complex but what we do we use the "cheats". I used any weapon and any armor (no big differences) but what i recommend is a Ribbon as an accessory.

Up to this point you can have up to two ribbons.
One in the Temple of the Ancients: You reach a room with a giant Clock. Leave the Clock at 5 there is the ribbon.
The second one is in Gaea's Cliff: Here is a video for this ribbon
(Video Credit goes to LetsPlayGGs)

Sadly both are missable. If you miss both Ribbons you can Morph Master Tonberry in the Northern Crater into Ribbons.

In the battle square you have to fight up to 8 enemies. For each consecutive win you get more BP (battle points). The more the higher ( wink ). From round 3000 up to 10.000. That means 4 to 11 battles if you never lose.
But here is what it makes time consuming. After every battle you have a slot mechanik with a debuff. Broken Weapon, Broken Armor, Broken Accessory, Broken Materia of any or all colors, Lvl Down, HP/MP Down and so on. If your accessory is broken its often, without better gear and Materia, impossible to win. Just play again and again up to you 32.000 Battle points. Buy the Omnislash and you are done.

After all this preparations, buy some HP+ Materia, but a maximum of 6 Materia in total for each character, in Cosmo Canion, to get 9999HP on each character. Also reach level 75+ in the north crater.

And then follow this video.

After the battle you obtain the Earth Harp item. This can be traded in Kalm to one Master Materia of all three types, Command, Magic and Summon.

Take them to get also.

anyone else having this one not unlocking for them? Ive reloaded the game several times and I got the achievement for convoker by redeeming the master materia from him afterward lol.

Rby weapon achievement popped just fine... should I just save after beating him and hope it pops at some point later? I have checked and it has not unlocked (silently) either, like without a notification.

The problem is with this game that if the Xbox Servers have problems the achievements from this game will not pop. For me it worked totally fine and popped right away. Im sorry for you mate :-(

You can beat Ruby and Emerald Weapon without even pressing a button with the following setup.

NOTE 1: You only need Cloud for this
NOTE 2: This is NOT the fastest way to kill Ruby / Emerald Weapon but I do believe it's probably the easiest (and definitely the safest). With the materia combo below you can't really fail.
NOTE 3: With this strategy, you will not need the Underwater Materia. You will be able to beat Emerald Weapon with at least 4:30 left on the clock.

You will need the following Materia:

Final Attack - Mastered (x3)
Knights of the Round - Mastered (x2)
Revive - Level 1
HP Plus - Mastered
HP <-> MP - Mastered

To obtain the above materia you will need:

Gold Chocobo - This will be able to get you Knights of the Round and HP <-> MP together
Ultima Weapon, Omnislash for Cloud, and W-Summon - Unlocking these items for Cloud will unlock the "Special Stage" in the Battle Arena at the Gold Saucer. Win that for the Final Attack Materia

Revive you can purchase in Junon,
HP Plus can be purchased in Cosmo Canyon (after you reach Mideel), if you miss the one from Rufus' send off in Junon during the story.

Once you have mastered the required materia:

Link the following
Final Attack + Revive
Final Attack + Knights of the Round
Final Attack + Knights on the Round

Start the battle, and then go make a cup of tea or something, when you come back Ruby / Emerald Weapon will be dead.

This works because:
HP Plus ensures your HP will be 9999, then swaps HP for MP so you have 999 HP and 9999 MP.
Ruby kills you every time it does damage, which triggers Final Attack to revive you, and then cast KotR twice... each and every time you die.

This is how I did it:

One character has materia equips as following -

w-summon, magic plus (mastered), knights of round (linked with) HP absorb, Counter (the support materia, not the purple one - mastered and linked with) Mime - (I also had Knights of round linked with MP Turbo that was mastered, but that is pointless with masterd magic plus, wich should be enough to do 9999 at each hit). Opt for HP plus as well.

The other two characters has the following setup:
counter (linked with) mime, magic plus... that's all.

When the fight starts use w-summon with Knights of round twice. Then mime for all the other actions.

Poor emerald got to shot one character as the first move and then stomp once only to get countered with 6 knights of round resulting in a swift death... he had no chance to use the Airetam Storm. Had the wonderful 3xSpeed feature acivated at all time, fight ended with about 8min left on the timer, did not bother with "underwater materia".

(Same strat was successfuly used on Ruby, but it's risky since he counters with Ultima. You could use knights of round and Hades in a w-summon combo - but that is obviously alot slower. Be sure to kill of to of your crew before engaging a fight with him, have the lone survivor starting out with Phoenix to revive everyone and then initiate w-summon 2xKOR or KOR+Hades, and then mime all other turns - I also had Phoenix linked with Final Attack for that one but it was not needed)

Grinding should be done in the norther crater in the area with the water. You'll be looking for magic pots that you need to use the item Elixir on to be able to kill and Movers (orange balls in group of three). Theses enemies gives tons of AP - Use Apocalypse-sword with Cloud (found in Ancient Forrest, has 3 slots with tripple Materia growth) and Javelin for Cid (can't remember where it's found right now - but it has 5 slots and double growth)

Okay, so you have multiple options here, all of which start with "get the underwater materia". to do this easily:
get Yuffie
Get and equip her Conformer weapon - https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Conformer_(Final_Fantas...)
Get morph materia and give it to Yuffie - https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Temple_of_the_Ancients

Go to the underwater reactor and encounter the ghost ship in the underwater tunnel(with the fish swimming above)
Morph the ghost ship to get the Guidebook item
Trade this in with the Kalm Traveller in Kalm town

You don't NEED to do this with Yuffie OR get the Conformer, but Morph does very little damage with everyone else, while it does full damage with that weapon.
You don't NEED the Underwater materia, it's just a safety net in case the battle really drags on

OPTION 1 - easiest but longest
Follow the guide for Knights of the Round -
Final Fantasy VII (Windows)Roundtable DestructionThe Roundtable Destruction achievement in Final Fantasy VII (Windows) worth 105 pointsObtain the Knights of Round Materia
and get KOTR and Mime
Get HP Absorb
Get MP Absorb
On any weapon with linked slots(say on Cloud) equip KOTR linked with HP Absorb, Mime linked with MP Absorb(or the other way round). With that character, do KOTR and then do Mime on his next turn . DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITH ANY OTHER CHARACTER. It takes a while cos of the summon but will fully heal you every turn and you will win after a while

OPTION 2 - easy but takes a while
Level up all 3 characters limits so they are at least on their level 3 limits. Turn on the battle cheats that heals you every turn and fills your limits up, then just do the limits until it dies. The battle takes ages but you will never die

OPTION 3 - fairly easy
Get W-Item from under midgar on disc 2
use the w-item glitch to get 99 megalixirs(select w-tem, megalixir, press confirm 3 times, then cancel once.
then confirm, then cancel, until you have 99
Buy 2 HP Plus materia per character from Cosmo Canyon. Level these up a bit so that when equipped your character goes up to 9999 max HP
equip these materia and only these to your characters
start the battle
do enough damage so that the eyes open on emerald weapon
keep your characters at 9999HP
once it does aire tam storm, your characters will drop to 7777HP and that will trigger lucky 7s and will do absolutely loads of damage
repeat the above until it dies

Emerald Weapon is another optional boss in the game that can be found underwater when you submerge with the sub. It will spawn randomly as a big green monster each time you submerge and will move if you surface and come back under. Run into it to begin the fight.

Similar to Ruby Weapon, you can face this foe legit and put in your preparation and have a tough battle, or cheese it with the Battle Enhancement booster. Totally your call. Either way, see here for tips on this fight.

In order to obtain this trophy, you must defeat Emerald Weapon. Emerald Weapon can be found at the bottom of the sea using the submarine. In many ways, Emerald Weapon is more difficult than Ruby Weapon. It boasts an astounding 1,000,000 HP, devastating attacks and high defenses. Further, Emerald Weapon is fought underwater, and thus, you only have 20 minutes to defeat him unless you have the Underwater Materia equipped. To acquire the Underwater Materia, trade in the Guide Book with the Kalm Traveler. To acquire the Guide Book, Morph the Ghost Ship enemy located in the Junon Underwater Reactor.

The Ghost Ship enemy, located in the Junon Underwater Reactor.

The Guide Book can be traded with the Kalm traveller for the Underwater Materia.

An easy way to defeat Emerald Weapon is by linking level 2 or higher Knights of the Round to HP Absorb. With W-Summon, you can summon Knights of the Round twice and fully heal with HP Absorb. Equip Mime on another character and use it afterwards to deal more massive damage. Having a character with the Phoenix Materia linked to the Final Attack will resurrect them whenever they are knocked out, the amount of times being equal to the level of the Final Attack Materia.

A quick way to cut off nearly half of Emerald Weapon’s HP is to trigger the All Lucky 7s status. Emerald Weapon uses an attack called Aire Tam that cause 1,111 damage for every Materia equipped on a character. Thus, at 9,999 HP and two HP Plus Materias equipped, a character will have 7,777 HP remaining and will trigger All Lucky 7s, and will attack 64 times at 7,777 damage each for nearly 500,000 damage to Emerald Weapon. Use Megalixirs constantly to heal in anticipation of Aire Tam and use Hero Drinks and Limits in the meantime. Once the All Lucky 7s status is over, unleash your most powerful Limits to finish Emerald Weapon off.

With God Mode enabled, taking down Emerald Weapon will be a breeze, of course.

For defeating Emerald Weapon, you will obtain this trophy. You will also obtain the Earth Harp, which can be traded with the Kalm Traveler for a Master Summon Materia.
