How to unlock the Instrument of Shame achievement in Final Fantasy XIII - Definitive Guide

Clear chapter 7 and start chapter 8.

The major boss for the chapter is the Havoc Skytank. It is a small airship with many armaments. First you will want to go into a defensive paradigm and enhance everyone's defenses. Then shift to a sentinel/attack with your sentinel drawing fire and the other two attacking. Take out the turrets first. Each component you destroy will do severe damage to the skytank. One the turrets are down that should relieve the constant attacks. You will now only be frequently attacked. Take out the port and starboard hulls to further cut down it's HP and offensive capabilities.

With both hulls and the turrets gone, it's HP should be reduced by 90%. Keep attacking and renew your defense buffs if they start to fade at this point. It should fall easily enough at this point.

Note that if you need to grind for any reason, enemies will keep respawning in the apartment.

This Chapter is particularly long, with a number of boss battles. The last of these at the end of the Chapter is the Havoc Skytank. However, whilst it has high HP, it’s pretty easy compared to some of the previous boss battles.

Start with a MED/SEN/SYN paradigm, so that Fang absorbs damage whilst Hope tosses Shell and Protect on everyone. As soon as you begin, toss Librascope to uncover 4 extra targets: Portside Hull, Starboard Hull, Portside Turret and Starboard Turret. Destroy the Turrets first and then the Hulls by using COM/RAV/RAV. When all 4 are destroyed, this will deal massive damage to the Skytank. If at any point the Skytank readies its “Main Cannon” attack, switch to MED/SEN/MED for a turn to absorb the brunt of the damage and restore health.

Once the attachments are destroyed, the boss should only have around 20% health left. Once its health is reduced to 73,500, its Stagger Gauge will lower enough for it to be easily Staggered and defeated.

Upon starting Chapter 8 in Nautilus, this trophy will unlock.
