How to unlock the Loremaster achievement in Final Fantasy XIII - Definitive Guide

The earliest you will get this is on the third (different) enemy in Chapter ten. But there are more than enough enemies later in the game to get this with (a total of 219). It is still recommended to do this on all enemies as you meet them, since the knowledge of the enemies do determine what actions the partymembers you don't control will perform.

There are several ways to get to know your opponents:
1) The Libra technique which you find in the Ravager skill tree. When in a fight use you third option Techniques and pick Libra. This will use 1 TP of your hard saved points. There is a in-game tutorial for this option.

2. The item Librascope. This one will completely scan every enemy you are currently fighting.

3. If you fight the same type of enemy multiple times you will eventually uncover every detail, but if you are just playing through the chapters without backtracking the are several enemies, especially the bosses, which you will encounter too few times.

The final hidden information will always be the Rare Drop one. So just use RB and check if you got that information, and you can go for the next enemy.

I will recommend using Librascope on major bosses, in particular those with several parts you can aim for.

Personally I used Libra all the way, (since the RB information makes it easy to see if you have done it enough) but if you save and reload your save, you should many places be able to fight normal enemies several times by backtracking.

There are also some enemies you may miss or avoid (SPOILERS):
Chapter four: In one fight only I encountered a Targeting Beacon. It has low HP but do high damage. So you might be better off to just get rid of it, than to spend time scanning it.

Chapter six: The game will tell you that there are some high powered enemies in the area which you can easily avoid. The enemies in question is the Scalebeast and the Wyern. The Scalebeast is easy to beat, if you're patient (it is quite slow - it took me 15 minutes only using Vanille) but the Wyern has a devastating attack so you might want to save that one for later.

With those three enemies in mind, you you probably unlock this one on the sixth enemy in Chapter ten.

And remember: RB is your best friend when working on this achievement.

Nice solution. I just popped this and came to write a solution for it and already found a couple good ones here hehe. It popped in chapter 10 and I've been Libra'ing everything I come across (Librascopes for bosses or when my technique points are below 3 and I can scan multiple types of enemies). I skipped the scalebeasts and wyverns.

I think the only part where people may have an issue with this achievement is by not using Librascopes on bosses with more than one target (which you mentioned). This is very important if someone wants this achievement early.

Thumb up!

I've actually gotten the Rare Item filled in on an enemy before the rest of the data did. Don't know why though, maybe the item dropped and it got filled in because of that.

Yes, but this is what info you get when you use Libra in your very first encounter with the enemy, so it wouldn't have any chance to drop anything yet.

I can also add that there is an accessory you get on one of the hunts on Gran Pulse (chap. 11/post game) which will give you all details when defeat enemies. But the hunt is so late in the game that I don't see how it will make things easier, as you probably would have gotten the achievement before that hunt anyway, so I will not add that to my solution.

Got this achievement quite near the start of chapter 10.. on the 1st Alchamic Ooze you come accross. I used the "Libra" technique the majority of the time as most battles can be easily won even while taking the time to gain stats on the enemies.

I only used the "Librascope" items on the 'major' bosses that have more than 1 targetable part to them.. such as the 'Havoc Skytank' (end of chaper 7) and the Fal'Cie by the name of 'Barthandelus' (end of chapter 9).

I need help with this achievement. I am in chapter thirteen I think and I have already done the bonus chapters and got my weapons and characters maxed out. I have already found full detail for 193 types. And I rememberm playing through the game and the achievement popping up then I turned off my xbox and reloaded the game later that day and it said I didn't get it. I don't wanna restart but I'd like to get the 80 points. -.-

Great guide, but can I suggest you to proofread it? Some parts are quite confusing because of words being out of order, missing or repeated. Hope you will see this comment.

I just got mine on Chapter 10 as well. However I didn't get the Sazh gamerpic that you're supposed to unlock. Anybody know why that is?

In order to get this achievement you have to three methods: the Libra technique (tutorial in chapter 3), use the Librascope (found in those treasure chests ball things) on enemies, and just fighting them. You can check your progress after a fight in the enemy database, if it has a check next to the enemy it is done, or during a fight by pressing RB. If you check the information by pressing RB there must not be any question marks, that means that everything has to be filled: item drops, health, damage until stagger, attributes, the status immunities bar, and the notes will either be filled or say, Not notewothry, or something similar to that.

If you are using Libra some enemies only need to be hit onece while others may need to be hit multiple times(Highest I've encountered so far is three times).

Also, if you are running low on TP, cannot use Libra (or don't have it yet), or just don't want to use Libra you can fill out the information by just fighting the enemy the information will fill up as the fight continues and you see their abilites and the items they drop.

Also, you fight most enemies multiple times the only exceptions I know of so far are bosses and the minibosses.

When you unlock the achievement you also get a gamerpic of Sazh, however the pic does no unlock immediatly in order for you to unlock it you must be at the main menu and from there you go to the extras option and there will be Sazh along with other pictures you can or have unlock.

Loremaster -(Discerned the full attributes of 100 enemies.): just make sure you use Libra multiple times on enemies until all attributes are filled out (no question marks). There are way more than 100 enemies in the game, but some enemies only appear in one chapter, which is really annoying if you're trying to be a completionist.

This will probably unlock for you as you progress through the game right around chapter 10. If you want to speed up the process use Lightning's Libra technique on enemies. You can check your progress in the datalog under enemy reports.

This will come naturally over time as you fight enemies. However you can speed up the process by using either Libra (targets single enemy, uses 1 TP) or Librascope (targets all enemies, is an item) to discern all the enemies stats, immunities and weaknesses. You can check your progress by pressing and going into the enemy intel section of the datalog. Completed enemies will have a check mark next to them.

Using the TP ability Libra as well as Librascopes will hasten the scanning progress. You should expect this achievement to come through natural play.

To fully reveal the attributes of an enemy, you must either defeat a certain amount of the same enemy, use the technique “Libra” to quicken the process, or use a “Librascope” item in battle to fully learn an enemy’s attributes. To check if you have fully discerned an enemy, press in battle to bring up the enemy’s status screen. If any of the values have a “?” next to them, it means there is still an attribute to uncover. You can also see under Enemies in Datalog, as fully discerned enemies will have a tick next to their name.

The best way to go about earning this trophy is to use Libra (found under “Techniques” in the battle menu) on every enemy you see until they are fully revealed, which is usually 2 or 3 castings. All characters learn Libra at Crystarium Level 1 at the beginning of the game and it costs 1 Technique Point, which will be replenished after a battle if you get a 5-star rating. Use your Librascopes for more difficult bosses, as it comes in very handy against those with multiple targets, allowing you to use the most effective spells via auto-battle.

If every enemy and boss in the game has been scanned from the beginning, you will unlock this trophy upon discerning the attributes of the "Noctilucale" enemy at the beginning of Chapter 10.

Just scan Libra or Libroscop all the mobs and by the middle of the game you will get an achievement (it also opens the portrait of Sazh in the EXTRA section).
