How to unlock the Race Against Time achievement in Galaga Legions DX - Definitive Guide

The Time Attacks can be frustrating and I got some with only a few seconds left.

Here are my tips to beat them without to much trouble:

1. Clear the areas first in the normal mode on hard to get a feeling how the game works and to get used to the waves you should expect.

2. Try to memorize the wave patterns. You will always get the same waves and it is helpful to know at which point you should shoot the bombs.

3. Avoid dying at all costs! If you die you start at the beginning of the wave and lose ~5 seconds (respawning) and the time you played that wave before you died.

4. Use the bombs! Memorize the way the bombs fly and shoot them at the right moment to take out the big enemies.

5. Use the "spread shot" only on the "exploding" enemies, the "walls" and the miniboss who is surrounded by the squares and shoots a bunch of small enemies at you. It's almost useless against all other types of enemies.

6. Play aggressive. Your ship can take some damage before you die so use that to your advantage.

Leave a comment if something is not clear.

On the 5th stage of each level (the ones where you start with a lot more firepower), dying before the final boss is sometimes not a bad idea because you get all your firepower back.

Anyway to get some videos? I'm struggling with a level 2, 2 level 4s, and a few level 5s.

Berman, I'd suggest just checking out the replays of the entire Areas if you're having trouble. The game has replays for the top 200 ranked people on the leaderboards. The time trials don't have leaderboards but they're just the Areas split into their individual sections so watching the leaderboard replays should work just as well.

I could barely make it myself. Don't die and take risks! If you are too careful, you won't make it in time. Practice, practice and practice some more.

Although I beat several areas in Time Attack by myself without the help of the guide, but thanks for making it. I'm not too afraid of dying in every shmup game, so if I made any mistake anytime, I can finish it later unless I found the game to be quite short like this. :)

The hardest one to do was Championship-5. If you die, just restart; I lucked out and finished with ~9 seconds to spare when I popped the achievement. There is no free time to respawn and retry.

Play Acts 1-9 first as the Championship seems to be a compilation of tougher stages from each act. IE final stages from Champ-5 are from 9-5. If you can't knock out 9-5 which took a few tries, you will not get through Champ-5.

You must complete the five stages per area plus the tutorial and the championship mode in time attack mode. I recommend completing the first phase of each area and continue to the next following the same pattern; this will permit you to increase the intensity as you learn through the wave patterns. When you have arrived the stage five of every area, it will be a piece of cake to finish them from the Area 1 to the Area 9. Leave championship five last. Complete it after you have finished Area 9 Stage 5, this will allow you to conclude it without any trouble.

I have a few tips:
First: Go to settings and set your game screen size to the small as possible, this will allow you to keep focused on the action since you will see everything without rolling your eyes that much.

Second: You can move to the place the enemy is going to spawn and destroy him in the middle of everything, this is remarkably useful as you can save plenty of time.

Third: It is okay to die. When you repeat the areas too frequently, you will realize a better way to finish them. Also, there are times in which death will still allow you to complete the stage just in time. Do not restart as soon as you die. You will realize the occasions when you must restart to be able to complete the stage.

Fourth: In Area 5 stage 5 you may have trouble with the last boss. To trounce him start shooting him from the center and move down, then go through the limits of the map doing a rectangle starting from the bottom right, this will allow you to evade the attacks pretty easily. Keep shooting the boss while moving through the limits of the screen and you should take down its shields without no difficulty, giving you a chance to defeat him just in time.

Note: You can also finish this before starting each Area in hard, it will be easy to go through each Area in hard as you have finished those before, even with limited time.

I found beating the game on hard is MUCH MUCH easier than doing the time attacks.

From the main menu, select 'Play Game' and you will find Time Attack at the bottom of the list. Time Attack comprises every level of the game (including the Tutorial ones) and these levels are represented by boxes.

Like the name suggests, the goal of Time Attack is to beat levels under a certain time-limit. You can complete the Time Attacks in any order you want but be careful. If you don't beat the time-limit of a level, a screen will pop up and ask if you want to Continue or not. If you choose to continue, the level won't be counted. Unless you want to practice or see the next waves pattern, do not choose 'Continue'; just exit and retry.

When you successfully complete a level, its box will turn orange and be checked. The hardest Time Attack is the 5th level of Championship. Beat it and the rest will be a cakewalk. Complete all levels and you will receive this trophy.
