How to unlock the Two for the Road achievement in Gears of War 2 - Definitive Guide

- For those who don't have a buddy or a 'significant other' handy who are willing to help with your achievement addiction -

(Oh, and please be aware there are minor Spoilers here - you have already played 'Road To Ruin' in single player mode to get the other two achievements, haven't you?) ;-)

I was keen to try this to see if it could be done 'Nigel No-mates' style, my missus does not dig GOW (hard to believe I know but...)

Just boot up GOW2 with your main gamer tag logged in on the 1st controller. At the main menu, fire up a 2nd controller and press 'Y' to log in as a guest. Start the 'deleted scene' with your 1st controller (the account that wants to nab this achievement). Watch the intro and cut scene. As soon as you have control of the game, pause it with your 1st controller, then press the guide button on your 2nd controller and log the 'guest' out (using the 'X' button). You may even turn the 2nd controller off after logging the guest out. The game will return to full screen and inform you that 'Dom has left'.

Continue playing with the 1st controller as you normally would solo, Dom is now controlled by the AI. This is a good thing as you don't need to juggle two controllers in the attempt to operate the pairs of door levers, sneak past those angry Locust or somehow sneak past that Brumak (he looked real angry too). You did pick the stealth option, didn't you? Just kidding.

Once you have got to the final battle in the open area with all the pop-up barricades, and you've shown most of those surly Locust who's boss (especially that Reaver, I bet it smells quite nasty in real life), leave the last couple of Drones or one of the Kantus alive. Pause the game with your 1st controller, grab your 2nd controller, fire it up and log in once again as 'Guest'. The game will return to split screen and you can now finish off the last of the baddies. The final cut scene will play and then you should have the achievement. Boy was I happy, but something tells me I need to make some friends.

It works! Quite a coincidence that I decided to play through this chapter the same day this was posted.

Thanks a lot for this solution. I'm a billy-no-mates (British expression meaning someone with no friends, lol) so I couldn't have got this achievement any other way.

After 33 thumbs-up my most popular and long-winded guide has received it's first thumbs-down. Can only guess at how best to fix it if you don't say why it's unhelpful... Poopey sad.

Yes I logged the guest in on the main menu and then started the deleted scene. I tried holding the guide botton on the 2nd controller to turn it off and taking the battery out but my first controller won't move my character. Please help I'm trying to get this achievement ASAP. Thanks.

Ok, I think I know what's happened. When you pause the game with your 1st controller, grab the 2nd controller and press the guide button. Then press 'X' which will sign your guest out. Let me know if that works and I'll edit the guide to make it more clear.

Yes, it is part of the Dark Corners DLC.

Ok. Thanks. I just wish I knew what DLC's I already had. There should be a menu in all games that offer DLC that says whether or not you have this or you have that or what not.

Hey, it's no problem man. If you press 'X' for Game Details on your home screen, then tab across to 'extras' you should be able to see which DLC stuff you've downloaded (there should be a tick inside a green circle). Another way to check is to hit your home button, go to Settings, Account Management, Download History. Anything you have purchased and deleted can be selected and downloaded again. Would be much easier if all games had an in-game menu like you say!

I already know that. I am just saying... if you buy an old games, you get all the old DLC achievements too. That's the only reason I don't have 100% on Forza Horizon, is because XBOX refuses to take off the DLC achievements that I never downloaded.

Still works on April 18th 2020, indeed even after logging Dom back in after the final cut scene starts, and pops the "Highway to Hell" achievement as well if you didn't do that one yet!

Hi MF9, sorry to hear you're having trouble but I'm not sure why it's not working for you. Are you logging your Guest in on the main menu then starting the deleted scene with your 1st controller? Does the game just freeze when you sign out the guest controller?

For this achievement you have to complete the "Road To Ruin" DLC in co-op, it doesn't matter which character you play as or which difficulty you play on.

Now the deleted scene can play out in 2 different ways, you can either choose to go in all guns blazing, for a guide for that option please see here; Solution for Highway to Hell In Gears of War 2 or you can choose to try and go through undetected, for a guide for that option please see here; Solution for My Way or the Highway In Gears of War 2

The way in which you choose to playthrough the deleted scene really doesn't matter for this achievement, just choose whichever one you want and get through it, refer to the linked the solutions if you need any help!

since this achievement isn't listed under co-op campaign, and once you enter it through the main menu, it initiates as single-player.... how do you go about doing it with another friend?? do you have to invite someone as the beginning cut-scene initiates or what? pretty stupid and frustrating, wish the guide would specify the co-op set up. please reply or update solution and you'll get a thumbs up!

I have to definitely agree with ClayThaGreat.

I have no idea why you received so many positive votes when you never stated at all how to start the deleted scene in co-op which is what this achievement is all about.

You just listed provided links to the 2 other achievements which doesn't make sense.

Please explain to me how I can start the deleted scene in co-op as if I start the deleted scene from the main menu it starts it in single player and I could probably add a second controller but I don't want to run through the whole thing to determine if it'll work since that's what you're suppose to provide in your solution.

If I leave to the co-op lobby it won't allow me to select the deleted scene.

Change your solution so that it actually helps achieve the achievement and I will change my vote to a Thumbs Up

For those without a second controller and wondering just how to play with someone over Live, you need to start the deleted scene from the main menu. When you gain actual control of your character, hit pause then the What's Up menu and you can invite your friend from there. Note that the other person needs to be in your friend list to invite them.

The easiest way to get this Achievement is to do this with a second Account and a Friend on your xbox in Splitscreen. Just log in with both of your Accounts, start the Road to Ruin and it will be started in Splitscreen. I prefer the Highway to Hell, but this is your Choice ;-)

Also Works with a Guest logged in, thx to Midgetworm for the Info.

For those who cannot figure out how to start it in online coop :

Start the DLC from the main menu with the player wanting to play as Marcus, choose your difficulty, watch/skip the Cliff video, choose your path then cn_start, select What's Up?, invite your friend, restart the chapter when your friend has joined, and voilà.
When you finish one path, the game prompts you the pause menu where you can restart the chapter again and then choose the other path.
