I got 10x on the trap mini game plenty of times before I got the achievement. Only once I'd filled the meter did the achievement pop. Try upgrading if you are having trouble.

Once you reach level 5 you unlock the upgrade which extends the multiplier.
On the character upgrade screen uf you press Y you can take points out of skills you have upgraded. Do this and put 5 points into the multiplier Extender.
Once you have fully upgraded this just mash A and you will easily get the achievement.
