How to unlock the Nice Shootin', Tex! achievement in Ghostbusters: The Video Game - Definitive Guide

Note: I read on another site and just re-posted it. I got this achievement by actually playing through and ending the game at just under $60k damage.

Another solution is to beat the game on any setting. Then start a new game on a memory card and get to the first level (not the training level) and save after the first checkpoint. Then load up your HDD game and go straight to the final boss. Pause the game and go to options and select your memory card as the storage device, and presto, your money has been reset to $0 and you are at the final boss. Enjoy!

I am aware that this may reset your artifacts and paranormal scans. In order to avoid this please make a copy of your saved game to a memory card or usb drive before proceeding.

You should mention the fact that all your stats will be written over, so essentially this short cut will replace the older game save with the new one. It will not unlock all the chapters either. I imagine that's why the negative votes.

If this is done as the last achievement for the campaign mode then losing all the data isn't as much of a problem, but a note should definitely be added for that. I'll still give this a thumbs up though because this procedure worked perfectly.

Yes, a usb flash drive will work just fine. I tried it with multiple usb drives to try to save the original save but the scans/artifact info got deleted but the level select remained intact.

Scans/Artifact info gets reset anytime you start a new playthrough anyways, and if you've got the 100% cheevos for those anyways, it doesn't matter if that stuff gets deleted. laugh

Why the negative votes? Maybe because the solution provides no actual tips on earning the achievement and instead provides a detailed procedure for getting the achievement without actually meeting the requirements.

I Used this today, still works and it only takes about 10-15 minutes total. The scans getting erased sucks but I like this game enough to go back and get them later in life.

^^^chaingun samurai - you're a moron. This guide is strictly to finish this game in as little time as possible. 10 minutes, or 10 hours. Have fun playing your ten hours while I finish this before you can get past the opening credits, and I'll start my next game :)

I was wondering if due to the new xbox dashboard and there new cloud drive. Wouldn't we be able to beat the game on one console, play on another game on another console till you get to save or wait for a checkpoint and then go to your console with the finished game and obtain the achievement?

I'd like to reiterate N0RVY's point that backing up your files to another storage device and then restoring them after using this technique does not prevent you losing all your scan and artifact progress. You should update this guide and tell people to do this after all of their other achievements, since losing your progress cannot be avoided as you suggest.

I have a question about the scans and artifacts getting lost, I guess if you restart a chapter/start a new game afterwards you can get them back again ?
If so, I guess it's not such a big deal then...

Yeah for anyone still doing this you need to be aware that you are going to lose all your statistics. This is how it makes it possible to get the achievement. Usually I am against things like this but since it is date stamped and this game is buggy enough I said why not. Anyway you should also be aware that this will NOT reset your leader board stats. So if you don't have to be scared of someone looking and thinking you cheated or having to do anything towards Gozers Most Wanted or the Most Wanted Ghosts. I gave a Positive. Thanks PiMDx

Last in 3 years ago on June 22nd, 2016. I did without a damage for outside on level 2 for Time Square, I got $2,750 and I did without a damage for museum on level 4, Use a slime tether to put the ghost trap in it, I got $163. I did very careful to use a proton stream. And you will get the achievement unlocked that you have, and go to financial record and check a little damage one.

From what I can tell: The act of creating a new save file is what wipes out your artifacts and ghost scans. If you save to a new file, the tracking of those, and possibly water fountains, is gone. Zip. Boom. Once you dashboard, then reload your real save, the damage is already done. And your save will still have the damage counts under financial records.

So, new file = loss of ghost and artifact data.

I mean, do we really need a guide to do this one legit? All you have to do is not break things as you go through. Avoid the big expensive things that you used to get the $3,000,000 in damages, such as the Buses and cars in Times Square, or the museum displays (especially the cannons in the Civil War Exhibit). Also, I recommend doing this on Casual for quicker progress.

This just took me 8minutes 37seconds exactly, and it was /definitely/ not the fastest it could be done. I progressed into the story enough to see Slimer eating in the hotel hallway, dashboarded, loaded the game selecting my complete game, Replay Level "Cross The Streams!", selected my other 'new' savegame, and finished it. Thankyou so much!

Also, I left this achievement till last (in the SP anyway) because I suspect it will be impossible to retain your artifact/paranormal scans progress. I suggest anyone wanting this achievement do the same - leave it until last.

Confirming the CLOUD GAME SAVE FILE SOLUTION
(Note all you're ghost scans and artifacts will be gone if you do this achievement, so you might aswell leave this one to be one of you're last campaign acheivement) thnks to RitzOmega for noticing that I forgot to mention this major detail.
1) Beat the game any difficulty save it on your normal hard drive.
2) Load up Ghostbusters from the dashboard, load the Cloud Drive.
Start a new game and play till you capture the glutten ghost after
slimer to get a checkpoint save.
3) Load up your normal save file on your hard drive so you can load
the last level with the final boss.
4) Go to the start menu, then options so you can change your hard
drive, change it to your cloud save file and then you should have under
10,000 and your achievement after you beat the boss.

Worked like a charm. I would add that it erases your Ghost Scans and Artifacts found, and should only be done AFTER you've done the others. I was lucky enough to back up a save to a flash drive beforehand, so I still have all the other stuff.

As of 10/6/13 still works. However I didn't even have to PLAY my cloud save. I simply started a new game on the cloud and went to dashboard from the first cutscene. Confirmed there was a saved game on my cloud. Loaded my normal save on my HDD. Then when i started the last checkpoint, changed storage device, beat final boss. Achievement!!

This really isn't going to be very easy. That said I have several tips that should help greatly.

-It's best to go for the Destructor achievement before this one. Doing a run through for that achievement first will give you a good clue as to what counts as causing property damage and the value of it.

-Only attempt this on the casual difficulty setting. This allows you to rely on your teammates to handle most everything whenever they are around.

-Your teammates can destroy objects, but any damage caused by them doesn't count against your total. Try to avoid shooting any debris though as sometimes it will still count against you.

-Try only to focus on ghosts when there is nothing destructible behind it. Let your teammates handle any ghosts near objects.

-If you make a big mistake, you'll have to quit to the dashboard to take away the amount of damage. (thanks to those in the comments for correcting me)

-Get fast trapping and slam trapping upgrades as soon as possible. The quicker you can get rid of the ghosts, the less likely something can go wrong.

-Be extremely careful while in Times Square (particularly around the cars) and in the Museum (particularly in the Civil War exhibit). These areas can add to your damage totals extremely quickly.

-If ghosts are directly in front of you on the ground, normally it is safe to shoot down at the ghost's feet.

-While in Times Square, if the ghosts are far above your head, it is normally safe to shoot the sides of buildings at least allowing you to damage the ghosts. (Thanks to TheRickMoranis for reminding me of this)

-Once you get the slime tether, this should become your favorite friend. This allows you to instantly trap ghosts without weakening them. It also allows you to trap while guaranteeing to not cause damage. This is a great help during the Civil War segment of the Museum.

-Once you beat the museum level and go to island, you can open up freely. Damage from that point to the end of the game no longer counts against you. You also get a short area like this while in the ghostworld version of the library earlier in the game.

I don't think Reloading a checkpoint when you make a mistake works. I did it when the flame gargoyle's spawned, and I accidently hit a car bringing me up to $36,000.

I paused, reloaded checkpoint, but when I looked, it's still on there.

If you pause/reload, the damage you've done stays. You have to dashboard out/eject disc and then resume career.

From my own experience, jumping all the way out to the dashboard when you make a mistake is unnecessary. If you just jump back to the main menu and then come back in from that, you should be alright.

This really wasn't as hard as i was expecting. Just play on casual and have your teammates do most of the work until you get the slime tether and just use the slime all the time. I was able to complete the game with only about $40,000 in damage.

So I take it you DON'T have to start a new game. My total damage currently sits at over $3000000, I just want to make sure that won't affect me trying to get this achievement.

By Drachen77 on 01 Nov 2009 05:47
I know it's a couple years late so it's unlikely to be of help to Drachen77, but if anyone else is gunning for it, if you have over the $100K damage maximum, you WILL have to start fresh in order to pop the achievement. That said, it is still easier to do all the achievements that require replaying levels (scanning ghosts, artifacts, etc) and save this until the end, unless you're REALLY careful your first time through and get it on the initial run...but it helps to wait until one is familiar with the game and it's mechanics to try it.

Thank you very much! Very helpful guide.. i completed with 49-50 000 $.. on teh times square level be careful with the gargoyles because if you slam dunk one on a car that will explode.. it made me 38 000$ damage .. and that was just a fire engine.. at the museum don t have to do anything with the egyptian guards because your buddies kill them easily just use the slime tether in the civil war or the stasis stream trapping (i found it more helpful)

I can confirm you do not need to dashboard if you mess up. Quitting to the main menu before your next checkpoint will wipe out any damage you've done since your last saved checkpoint.

Arrgh! You beat me to a solution! Haha, exactly the same as I was gonna put it, Casual difficulty and all. Times Square and the Civil War exhibit are the toughest. Aim high in Times Square. In the Civil War exhibit, my strategy was to retreat back to where I entered the room, leaving one glass case to my right and the middle of the room between the Confederate and Union soldiers in front. The Peter and Winston weakened a lot of the ghosts, I brought them (up and) over, or simply took care of any that wafted in front of me and tried to take me out. Can't stress enough how important Casual difficulty is!

On a side note, in going after this achievement, speeding through the game only takes around 4 hours. Kind of a sadly short game, but still a lot of fun.

Here are the biggest tips on doing this:

1. Play the game on Casual Mode, as the damage is less.
2. Let the Ghostbusters do the fighting whenever possible, ESPECIALLY in Times Square and the Museum. A few wrong moves in either place and you can rack up damage easily. So be very careful in those areas.
3. There are a few ghosts you MUST capture (Slimer being one of them). So be extra careful while doing it and don't do stupid things like destroying the wedding cake.

Enjoy!

☠ Warning ☡ NICE SHOOTIN', TEX!
4 achievements are broken. Thanks to the help of CrYpTxRaIdEn - "the achievement "Nice Shootin', Tex!" you have to get the last one, otherwise it will disrupt your in-game achievement system", so keep that in mind when starting your adventure with this game 👍
But what if you've already achieved this achievement and are stuck? Unfortunately, there is no confirmed solution 🤔 (or at least I don't know anything about it)
So I figured if the offline achievement blocks the online ones, maybe some solution is to transfer the progress of the single player game to a portable drive and disconnect it from the console to try to play multiplayer on the main one again x360 disk so that the console does not "see" the progress of the single player game - I do not guarantee that it will help but by trial and error, I am trying to find a solution to this situation. But if you can confirm it works, I'd appreciate if you let me know

I’m not sure if somebody else has already written this solution, but I’ll throw my hat in the ring.

The best way to get this achievement is to go through the game on the easiest difficulty. You’ll save yourself a lot of trouble. You and the other Ghostbusters can take serious beatings from the enemies on the “Casual” difficulty. The idea is that you let your teammates do most of the work as you may incur unnecessary property damage in “Times Square” (vehicles and windows) and “The Museum“ (I caused about $5,000 in damages due to spamming Boson Darts).

Don’t worry about being short on upgrades, you will still earn cash from ghosts killed/captured by your teammates. You should also try to collect as many ghost scans and artifacts as you can find to earn more money.

After finishing “Return to the Sedgewick”, you can be as reckless as you want to be with the Proton Pack. You can’t accrue any more damage expenses in the last two levels. The achievement should pop upon finishing “Central Park Cemetery”.
