How to unlock the Liberty City Minute achievement in Grand Theft Auto IV - Definitive Guide

This is a fairly easy achievement, and have kinda multiple ways what to do.

First off if you think you are a REALLY slow player, then skip all cinematics, use taxi and everytime you fail a mission reload save. Personally i got my story through in 12 hours with this method and i totally recommend watching the story cinematics so you can easily let that off.

But yeah modify those as you like, most of you should do enough by just reloading after fails and using taxi, no needing of cinematic skipping.

And before you panic after finishing the story...This achievement DOES NOT come after the "You won" one, you get this one after the credits, and it dosent matter if you skip em.

How do you keep the main story moving long?

Sorry, meant to say "moving along?" What triggers the next part? Is it always just answering the phone?

The achievement counts all your single player gaming time, so no u cant do side missions etc, unless you have plenty of time left on the achievement. And if you get on a situation where u cant have new missions, go to sleep in game and run around for while and you should get your story moving along again :)

Using the taxi skip's and cutting out the cinematic's is the way forward! Did it in under 16 hours this way! Just don't bother with anything else, just do the main story!

I recommend doing this on a second playthrough. This will give you a chance to be familiar with the mission and a better rate of completion/mission try. In other words, your odds of reloading a failed mission should go down.

If you have any skill at the game you can easily do this in something like 12-15 hours, even with cutscenes. Well I at least was able to do it that quick.

Yeah I must add this an easy acheivement. By 30 hours, i have managed to do everything apart from killing all the pigeons, which i have 100 left to do! Come on 100%!

Do I have to do all the story missions? - I've done "That Special Someone" but the final 3 missions won't trigger, I have the second batch of Gerry's missions to do.. but no where in my guide does it say I have to of done those missions to trigger anything at all (I'm at 15 hours, so I have plenty of time, but I just want it done with)

Did it in 16 hours, seems you have to do all character missions before the last 3 missions will happen.. the final "deal" route had issues for me, between the mandatory boat being destoyed before I could use it, the helicopter not triggering, or glitching so it was stuck to one altitude.. otherwise seems the easier option since bikes are pure crap

i still need to do this. It is better leaving collectables till u beat 30 hours so you can find them instead of arriving at a place and finding you have already killed the "flying rat"

Hey is that right for just skip the whole cutscenes? Not the whole story or no?! So, I gonna do is to get two other achievements for me is One Man Army and It’ll Cost Ya. And then I’m ready to play whole story missions mode to skip the whole cutscenes for less than 30 hours to get Liberty City Minute Achievement after I saw the ending credits for 20 minutes. Not too much. I hope this works or not for me I guess. Please let me know it. Thanks!

Even though I already got this achievement I am curious why this isn’t flagged as missable.

This one is so easy because Rockstar give you a huge time gap to do it, even watching the cutscenes and just using taxis never goes above 15h; If you know the missions well you can also just restart instead of reloading a save. I got it when just below 10h on X360/PC.

just got it in 17 hours, failed missions a handful of times, used taxis all the time and watched ALL cutscenes, you could do this a lot quicker without the cutscenes but it'll be a lot less fun. So enjoy the story because it's good and and this'll still pop.

Can someone let me know if the 30 hours includes time spent outside of story progression. For example, would I be able to complete side missions, hunt for jumps and pigeons, etc, but still get the achievement by completing the story missions themselves in less than 30 hours?

I started a new game and only focused on doing the missions for whomever was the big letter on the map. I didn't bother doing any side missions (no taxi, assassin, races, deliveries, ect.), or spend any time making friends (outside of their main story missions) or dating (aside from the main story mission where you have to take Kate bowling). Watch the cut scenes and don't worry about re-trying a missions (I personally retried 20+ times). I did take the taxi a majority of the time though to save time. In the end I finished with a total of less than 24 hours. Achievement pops after the game credits and overtime begins. Cheers!

It's very easy to get this achievement in the first playthrough. The only thing to do is to reload save after saving. And by the way there's 94 missions in the game and you have 30 hours to complete them so you do three or four in one hour and all will be fine. At a moment I had only 30 missions done at 15 hours of the game, then I really started the quests and I finished the game within 25 hours without skipping any cutscenes (exept after failing the mission) or taking any taxi.

People talk about loading up saves and skipping cutscenes. Would make sense if the achievement was for 15 or 20 hours. But 30 hours is a lot of time. Watch cutscenes, heck even do side missions; The key is to use taxis wherever you can. I got a couple of side missions done, still managed to get the achievement. Don't let getting this achievement ruin your GTA 4 experience.

This is easy, just don't stop doing missions do one go to the next one.
if you need the GAME TIME to speed up then go to the pay n' spray,
(moves game time by 3 hours ahead) or simply save your game at a safe
house,(moves game time 6 hours ahead)

This may very well be one of the easiest achievements in the game. Just play all of the Story Mission first, do NOT play any side missions like the car deliveries and things like that. You should easily be able to get this achievement then. I got it with about 23 hours of playing time.

This achievement is fairly easy. I suggest doing this on your second playthrough so on your first you can sit back and enjoy the story.

I suggest useing taxis to get from mission to mission. If you fail a mission just load up the auto save. Use cheats to make it go faster if you have one man army, cleaned the mean streets and walk free. Which you should do on your first file. The cheeve will pop after the credits just so you know.

Yes, I can confirm that it is possible to get this achievement with a casual play-through of the story missions only. I, unfortunately, ran through them not knowing how much time would ultimately be needed and so completed the story in a little over 13 hours. I could have enjoyed it more by watching the cut scenes and driving to locations more often.

What would have been helpful to convince me to play casually was a milestone listing of times. So taking my rushed play-through and adding a proportionate amount of time to complete in 25 hours, I provide this time guide:

25 hour Milestone (my rushed time) Mission Name - Contractor
02:00.00 (01:06.70) Concrete Jungle - Little Jacob
03:50.00 (02:08.05) Easy As Can Be - Brucie
05:30.00 (03:01.05) Luck of the Irish - Elizabeta (20.93%)
07:10.00 (03:58.39) Undress to Kill - Dwayne (26.51%)
09:00.00 (04:56.47) Harboring a Grudge - Packie (30.70%)
11:20.00 (06:15.19) A Long Way to Fall - Ray
13:00.00 (07:13.23) Late Checkout - Ray (40.47%)
15:10.00 (08:24.37) Smackdown - Derrick (45.35%)
18:20.00 (10:07.25) Trespass - Phil (50.00%)
20:30.00 (11:19.58) That Special Someone - United Liberty Paper (56.5%)

For a full listing of story missions as I played them, please visit

Remember to save often as some missions can prove particularly troublesome requiring multiple attempts. For me that was Pest Control and the final mission.

The final missions require time to pass between them before they will appear. Sometimes telephoning the character will speed things up a bit. Sleeping will move ahead 6 hours of in-game time. For one mission I remember 30 minutes passing. I guess you are suppose to do the side missions while waiting for these missions to show up. If you are good for time, go ahead.

Please note that the completion percentage provided above is for playing the story missions only bar for one jump which occurred during a boat mission.

I got the achievement fairly naturally, but my brother took 40 hrs.

Dissapointed, he reloaded a save that had 18 hrs on it. putting in a modest effort of not screwing around, he beat the game in 24 hrs.

skip all the superjumping / bird killing / side missions and it shouldn't be a problem

Here's what to follow if you want to quickly complete the main storyline:
1) Only do missions that appear on your map. e.g if it says R for Roman or B for Brucie, you only need to focus on those.
2) Quick way to fast travel to missions is by taking a taxi and pressing A to skip (downfall it changes the time of day depending on the distance.)
3) Ignore going on dates with people unless it's already on the map and it's part of the mission (don't bother taking the initiative to call people.)
4) Don't do any other side achievements. e.g cab driving, special delivery and so on

You can get everyone to like you 90% after you completed the game.

Use skipped taxi journeys to get to most places and you have more than enough time to watch all cut scenes. If you die or fail a mission just reload the last auto-save.

I managed it in 24 hrs, answered all phone calls from friends, went bowling, drinking etc with them to get my Like % up. Also did some races for Brucie and all 9 Assassination missions.

This is a fairly simple achievement, but I recommend you get it on your second playthrough. To receive this trophy, you need to complete the game, spending as little time as possible on its completion. For example, you should skip all the videos, since the time that passes during them is added to the total time, also try not to waste time on completing a large number of secondary tasks - you can always complete them after receiving this achievement. Another good way to save time is to use a taxi; when you miss a trip, time does not increase.
This trophy will unlock after you look at the information about the authors at the end of the game. First you will receive the “You Won!” trophy, and then after viewing information about the authors you will be given the “Liberty CityMinute”.

You can go through without skipping the cutscenes. I completed this in 23 hours, replaying 7 tasks.

But still, don’t forget to buy guns and go to your heart’s content. Have a good game.

Also, after mission failures, you can go to the dashboard, and then back to the game, the time spent since the first load will not be added (it is saved in statistics when you save the game). This is how I replayed the last mission.

I also recommend visiting weapons shops to buy armor at any convenient opportunity, full health and armor are the key to not replaying missions, armor can also be found on the street

this helped to complete the game without failures and deaths without rushing in 13.5 hours

The following point will give even more efficiency: it is better to travel by taxi, for example, to the other end of the map it will be faster to take a taxi and skip the trip; you will save quite a lot of time throughout the game.
