Did Somebody Call the Wambulance?

Complete Paramedic Mission level 12.

How to unlock the Did Somebody Call the Wambulance? achievement in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Definitive Guide

The Paramedic side mission involves picking up patients in the Ambulance and dropping them off at the hospital within the time limit. To start the Paramedic missions you need to steal an Ambulance then press whilst driving it.

In total there are 12 levels of the Paramedic missions you must complete in a single attempt. Each level gets progressively harder with more patients that require picking up. You are awarded a short amount of time each time you pick a patient up, as well as additional time for the first drop off at the hospital for each level. Below is a list of tips which will help you obtain this trophy as it can prove to be quite difficult:

  • The Ambulance can hold a maximum of three passengers at one time so use this to your advantage in the higher levels.
  • The ambulance takes damage if you drive recklessly and if destroyed, you will fail the mission.
  • Use to brake and not as you are less likely to lose control and roll the ambulance.
  • Try and stop the Ambulance as close as possible to each patient to reduce the time it takes for them to get inside. You can save a few seconds each time if done correctly.
  • Group your pickups of patients together to avoid unnecessary backtracking. At the start of each level I pick up the closest three patients whilst keeping an eye on the location of the remaining patients. This allows you to plan your routes and pick ups which will save a lot of time. Press the to access the map and see where the patients are located.

The below video shows the location of the Ambulance at the hospital on the first island, as well as a walkthrough of level 12:

These missions are carried out only in Ambulance vehicles, which are usually parked near hospitals and clinics. The mission begins after you get into the car and press the "Sub-mission" button. You can also turn on the siren, then all nearby cars will pull over to the side of the road. But, as for me, it’s better to do without it, because... when overtaking on the right you will constantly be bumped into.
The goal of the mission is to deliver a specified number of patients to the hospital within a specified time. First, we go after the victim, stop near him - he climbs into the van, we add time and rush back to the hospital (just be careful, otherwise the patient will not survive several accidents), stop at the indicated place and wait until our patient gets out, after that again time is added and everything is done again. In each mission, the number of patients increases by one, but more than three cannot fit into the ambulance, so the main key to success is to correctly divide all patients into groups of up to three people.

These missions are probably the longest of their kind - you need to spend about 45 minutes to reach level 12. But the biggest problem is not so much the lack of allotted time as the instability of the machine. If you complete these missions on the first island, then one hundred percent you will need to pick up a couple of people near the lighthouse. And turning over next to him on such a car is a piece of cake. But despite this, I would still recommend completing both these missions and similar ones on the first island. Because on the second island there are much worse road connections between areas (especially with the airport).

Passed on easy. I took an ambulance on the first island near a large shopping center. The patients were mostly on the beach. The difficulty was that the car could not be repaired and it was impossible to transfer to another ambulance. There were two fart-bombing moments: on the beach, when I was slowing down, I ran over a sick person; I accidentally pressed R3 out of habit to see the rear view, like in GTA 5, and canceled the mission, but it was level 6. There are 12 levels in total. Try to drive carefully. Bots like to turn sharply. As soon as the patient gets into the car, you can safely accelerate.

To avoid traveling to the lighthouse, take a medical mission from the hospital in the north of the first map. Closer to level 12, half of the patients will be standing on the beach, there you can immediately take the first three and gain time. But be careful, it’s also very easy to capsize on bumps on the beach.

The most profitable way to pass is in the north of the first island. Most of the victims will be on the beach (however, you still have to try to roll over there). When approaching them, you should brake to the left or right of them, because the braking distance on sand actually increases.
All other victims are in close proximity to the hospital (only occasionally on the island with the film studio and very rarely in the north of the second island).
Compared to GTA 3, where the ambulance is simply “crystal”, here the carriage is a tank, which is not so easy to blow up due to accidents

Don't go full speed. It’s always better to drive at a low speed, 5 seconds of acceleration, then 3 seconds of inertia without gas. Especially along the beach (I did it in the north of 1 island). If you see a bump, drive carefully and straight. Use brake only (Not , not the handbrake). And never give back to the patient. It is very likely that you will crush it. Drive up a little to the left or right of the patient, otherwise if you go straight to the mark and towards him, you can slide the last 5 meters and hear the crunch of the vertebrae.
