Got this by doing chest passes directly at the Kinect (doing an actual jump shot motion with my arms made the ball careen all over the place).

just as a side note I jumped first and then threw the ball (chest pass as the solution mentions) as I landed.

I hit my baskets by having palm over palm by the end of my shot, and aiming above the kinect. I'm 6 foot and was about 10 feet away. But I also shot at the end of my jump, just before landing.

Once you face this section in the minigame, the best strategy is to move the controller in vertical position, up for jump and down (front) for throw. If you find the timing to throw exactly when you are almost at top of your jump, you won’t miss any shot, so this trophy will be very easy to unlock.
