How to unlock the Artisan achievement in GreedFall - Definitive Guide
To start this you will need to have at least one Talent Point in Crafting. Alternatively, you can find gauntlets that give you +1 to Crafting and can equip those to temporarily unlock the ability to craft as long as you're wearing them.
If you need materials for crafting you can always recycle old items you've acquired which is breaking them down for materials. You can also find them easily by looting crates, chests, monsters, corpses, and resources in the wild. If you have some gold to spare you can also buy materials from merchants.
Once you have the materials find a workbench and go to any piece of armor or weapon that has an open crafting slot which is indicated by a black circle. If it has a green circle that means part of that item has already been upgraded. You can recycle the existing upgrade though so don't worry about that. Now scroll through the upgrades your crafting level allows you to choose from and pick one that best suits your play style and character. Do this 10 times and the achievement is yours.
If you want to just knock this out of the way early on, you can save your game and head to a workbench and upgrade everything in your inventory including your party member's gear. If they already have a slot upgraded you can recycle it and upgrade it again until you hit 10 and pop the achievement. Then just reload your save to keep your materials for future use.
Select the ‘Have something crafted’ option from the Blacksmith. The little circles next to your equipment names denote how many upgrades that item can hold. You can go through and do low level upgrades pretty early on, but you’ll find this will probably come naturally through the game. I only had one more to do by the time I finished the main quest line.
As SolaceCreed points out - You can also do this with Kurt, if you’re completing a play through with him and have done his two personal quests. Once he is done and in your party, you can create level 1 armour upgrades.
This way, as long as he is in your party you can create level 1 armour upgrades. For the sake of the trophy.
Even playing on extreme the armour upgrades at level one are decent enough to get you through the entire storyline.
You can craft equipment upgrades at a crafting table, however you will need at least 1 point in the Craftsmanship talent. If you don't, you can speak to a blacksmith that can be found in the major cities and have them craft equipment for you, so you don't need to use your talent points for this purpose if you wish to use them for something else.
Either way you will need ingredients, such as metal ore, leather and precious stones, depending on the level of the upgrade you are crafting. These are found as loot throughout the game and can be bought from the various merchants throughout the world.
After crafting or having crafted for you, 10 upgrades, the achievement will unlock.
