Win an online battle match with the Fade to Black power up

How to unlock the Black achievement in Guitar Hero: Metallica - Definitive Guide

Use the Battle Power "Fade to Black" when a person fails out.

This might take a few tries, but the easiest way was to get a buddy to try and miss notes once you have the battle power, then when he is about to fail out, engage the power.

Doing it legit can be done too, do it with your pal until you beat him ;)

^^ Agreed, I did it completely on accident, but I had to help my friend get it the way I described. The blackout doesn't last very long and if they aren't in the red and panic-strumming already it probably won't pop the first time.

I got this playing against someone who kept on missing notes so when he was down in the red, I unleashed "Fade to Black" power along with some others and that ultimately finished him.

When you get it, DO NOT use it if he is in the green, wait until he is nearly out.

You need to get the "Fade to Black" powerup in Battle mode, and force the other player to fail while it's active.

It looks like you don't need to complete the song once for the FtB powerup to appear. It appears randomly with the other powerups (even in 2nd or 3rd playthroughs). A couple common misconceptions are that it only appears after the first playthrough, and every powerup in the 2nd playthrough becomes an FtB powerup (it is listed as such on X360a).

Like ADaughen said, the easiest way is to get a buddy. Since the powerup is available in the first playthrough and randomly, your best bet is to collect all of the powerups (but avoid using them). Once you get FtB, use it and have the other player spam the strum bar until s/he fails. If you don't have a buddy available, you'll want to collect two more powerups (you can have three at a time), and use them before using FtB (but make sure one of the earlier powerups don't make the other player fail).

The easiest way to do this is have a friend, and play any song. Tell your friend to strum until he is halfway in the red. He can hit notes, but he needs to stay in the red while playing by either missing notes or by strumming up and down while notes are passing by. Make sure he doesn't fail on purpose.

The Fade to Black attack is a black circle with a skull. You'll pretty much spend a few Battle Phrases trying to get it. Do not activate the other attacks. Mess up in a Battle Phrase to ignore them. Once you see the Fade to Black attack, get that. Have your friend go 2/3 into the red, and activate it.

May take a few tries, but don't let that decieve you.

Black - Bronze Trophy
"Win an online battle match with the Fade to Black power up"

I'd suggest boosting with a friend as it's very unlikely to find someone through matchmaking, as the GH servers now are pretty bare.

Just do a battle match and have your friend strum like crazy when you cast the Black powerup so he can fail quickly.

UNOBTAINABLE, DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

The fade to black power up is a power up where, when used, the opponent's screen turns black, disabling him from seeing the notes. A battle is when two people do a song on any instrument they want, on any difficulty they want, where there are power ups that you can use to spoil your opponent's performance. During an online battle make sure that this is the finishing blow to your opponent. This means that your opponent has to "die" because of this power up.

NOTE: Lately there are hardly any people playing online so it's going to be very difficult to find anybody playing online. I suggest using the Boosting thread found here: Trophy Boosting Thread
