How to unlock the Diamond in the Rough achievement in Guitar Hero: Van Halen - Definitive Guide
Very simple achievement to do now. I did it today using this channel:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xeoj30_gh-van-halen-dance-t...
The search feature on the page is very crap. For a few of the videos it told me it couldn't find anything, so unfortunately you will manually have through search through each page on the profile until you find the one you want.
Every single song in GH:Van Halen is there with an expert FC.
Simply sync up your mic to your computer speakers. The way I did it was play the video until it got to the first word - hit pause just before the first word, waited for the game to catch up and hit play on the video. May take a few attempts for each song.
I also found that when it came to the freeforms - she was fantastic at them but the mic didn't pick them up very well, so quickly yank the volume on the speakers up a bit and it will award you a tonne of points.
Credit goes to siavash from x360a for finding the channel and of course freqrexy for her awesome voice :)

Great solution! Got them all done in one night! Only had trouble with a couple but I got them after a few tries.

5* all the van halen songs. not all of the songs in the game. it will save you some time & prevent u from being an idiot like me. freeform is ABSOLUTLY critical. my advice to beat a difficult song is do it once all the way through and findout where the freeforms are and the next run through you should get it. if u can master freeform you are golden because, except for 2-3 songs i never had a 4streak or higher ever.

What do you do during freeform that's so critical? Sorry I'm new to the singing.

its just important to find out what pitch gets you points then change octaves. in other words what line through the freeform gets points then sing that line in different ways. also activate star power or whatever like 1/2 a second before the freeform ends

This achievement is fairly easy to do. The developers' gift to us was designing many talky parts for the Van Halen songs, so the majority of the songs have many sections of talky parts, and for the difficult songs they give us the freeform boost. Essentially, gather up the star power from the talky phrases, or the easy continuous held note, and use them right before the end of either freeforms or talky parts. Remember that you do not have to 5 star all the songs in the game, just the Van Halen ones. Master the freeforms and star power usage, and this achievement will be yours in no time.
Assuming you have even the most basic singing ability and a fair familiarity with the Van Halen material this is fairly easy - after making the key adjustment for the singing on all the GH games I've tried so far:
Add 100ms to your audio and video lag under 'calibrate lag'. Yes, it's crazy, but it really works.
Beyond that, it's not too tricky, since there's plenty of talky stuff where Dave's bluesy pitch is too hard to track, and the star scores are set fairly low - generally, if you can hit all the choruses and ham your way through the rest you should be there or thereabouts.
A couple of tracks will need you to have a decent warble for the freeform sections, and maybe save some star power. And if you don't know the particular song well, have a listen or two on practice beforehand and concentrate on the vocal (or to the album offline).
Good luck!

Id just like to add a simple way i found of acheiving high amounts of points on the freeforms.
Before attempting a song, you should go to practice mode and check if there are any freeform sections in that song. If there are, just keep practicing that section, trying to get the highest multiplier you can.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, make sure you record yourself each time so when you finally get a high multiplier (5 - 7), when you attempt the song and reach the freeform, you can just play the recording back into the mic for an enormous amount of points that will almost certainly get you those 5 stars.
Also, remember as Kreops said, activate star power before the end of the freeform to double the amount of points you receieve.

I just want to point out that I don't think it counts the intro song Panama the first time you play it when you start the career. I think you have to play it again because I noticed I didn't have this achievement so I went to vocal career and I had 5 stars on every song. I played Panama and 5 starred it and the achievement popped up.
Start a vocal career on expert and finish every VH song in the game with 5 stars. There's no trick to this one, you just have to earn it. Dave's vocals are all over the place at times so the best advice is to practice, practice, practice. Be sure to make good use of star power and freeform sections as these are crucial to getting the scores needed.
