Ending #4: The Silver Scales of Maple Lake Involved: Joe, Kurt
NOTICE: Completing endings acts as a New Game +. You will restart on Spring 2, retain your house purchases, and your animals will come with you. Heart progress on all animals will also remain. The only things that change are: ending-specific items and relationships with townsfolk. With that being said, let's carry on with the details specific to this ending, shall we? (Contained within spoiler tags.)
To start this, begin by picking Very Berries and giving them, once a day, to Joe (blue bandanna). Joe can be found at Maple Lake on his days off and after he works (which is only during the weekdays, MWF, after 5). Once you've given him plenty, one of the days you go to visit him off at Maple Lake, he will bestow upon you the Old Fishing Pole. Now that you're equipped with this tool, you'll want to start fishing as often as possible, as many of the staged events require a handful of fish (3-5) to be caught.
(Stage 1) Once you've caught your first batch of fish, you might have to either zone out and back in (leave the area and return) or head there on the normal times he would be there to trigger the next scene. He will start speaking of a legendary fish that is spoken of in tales about the homeland.
(Stage 2) After a second batch of fish have been pulled up (barring the ignorance of junk), return once again to have Joe question you about your fishing experience. He'll remark on how your skill won't be able to do well without a better rod and suggest something to Louis. The next day, Louis will be selling a Silver Fishing Pole for 4,500g. While it is a steep price, the amount and quantity of medium and large fish you can pull up after makes it a decent investment for the bout of this ending.
(Stage 3) Try to pull up a handful of medium- or large-size fish. You can tell the size difference by the shadows being gradually larger than what you might have been used to. Once you meet up with Joe again, you two will be stunned by a silver streak that dashes across the lake, inspiring Joe with renewed vigor that the fantasy is real! It is after this scene when you should have some Tomatoes ready to give to Kurt on a daily basis to raise friendship up with him. In that time, when you go to approach the carpenter's hut during the days off, you will have a cinematic with Woody over the legend of the fish and wish you luck. The sprites and the Goddess will overhear this and begin to investigate the conditions more of the Silver Fish.
*(Stage 4) By fishing up even more Medium and Large Fish, your next visit with Joe will help you understand the conditions to catch the fish. Do note that this has to be during the night, and most likely not on the 14th, 15th, 29th, or 30th of the month. Through the conversation, you will discover that the full moon has to be present at the time to chance the fish to nibble on your line. Now all you will need is the right fishing pole to net the catch.
*(Stage 5) By giving Kurt enough tomatoes, one day when you go to leave your house (preferably without holding a dog, so if you first exit with him, try re-entering and leaving your house again). He'll beat around the bush asking for your help in gathering some herbs for Woody. Once you've gathered up ten, give them to him one at a time. Once you hand him the last, he'll say he will pay you back. Four days later, he'll return to your house the same way and bestow upon you a fishing pole he himself carved, capable of netting the legendary fish itself.
(Stage 6) Starting from 5 PM on to the day resetting, you have the opportunity to catch the Silver Fish on the days of the full moon. Addressed before, this is the 14th, 15th, 29th, and 30th of each month. It will be a medium-sized shadow on the water and when you cast your rod out, the shadow will be elsewhere than right where you throw it (requiring a bit of navigation and redirection by pressing the directional buttons). By snagging this catch, you will have a cinematic with Joe. After the tiny bit exchanged between the two of you, you have one week left to finish everything before the game ending is thrust upon you.
* Stages 4 and 5 might differ in appearance for you. For me, 4 didn't appear until after I had received the fishing pole from Kurt, but all of the loose information I have read in regards to trying to catch this elusive fish has it set in that order.
