Ending #8: The Flowerbud Horse Race Involved: Bob, Gwen (somewhat)
NOTICE: Completing endings acts as a New Game +. You will restart on Spring 2, retain your house purchases, and your animals will come with you. Heart progress on all animals will also remain. The only things that change are: ending-specific items and relationships with townsfolk. With that being said, let's carry on with the details specific to this ending, shall we? (Contained within spoiler tags.)
Bob runs the only other ranch on the homeland, the Brownie Farm. Through him, you will be able to acquire a horse and start getting some money early on through doing part-time work. He also really enjoys receiving eggs. Befriend him and work part-time repeatedly to acquire yourself a horse and start the process towards getting this ending. His shop will be closed Thursday, but he can still be found around the area (or even on his farm) when the store is closed.
(Stage 1) After obtaining your horse, make sure you brush, feed, and talk to it (from the front) every day until you obtain one heart. This will allow you to mount the horse and start trotting. The next day, Bob and Gwen will visit your farm and remark on your taming abilities. Gwen will be annoying and not praise you for your accomplishments, but Bob will see great potential. You can still give Bob eggs to raise his friendship up, but the real stage requirements are raising your horse's love for you. Don't forget that you can also visit the Goddess and have her try to raise your horse's love every day that it's not raining.
(Stage 2) When your horse has obtained two hearts, Bob will visit once more and ask if you're able to get it to run. You'll prove the horse's capabilities first-hand and he will continue to remark your abilities. When Gwen tries to intervene once more, you come to find out that Flowerbud Village has a competition that you might be able to enter. Remain raising your horse's affection to continue from here until it's capped out.
(Stage 3)* For me, after I got full hearts, I went to his store and the Time Attack will be an option available to you. The goal is 52" (seconds), but you might need to work on shaving some time off of this before you can get it. The only tip is to avoid bumping too hard into the fence, yet follow along the inner fencepost (the right). This way, you can cut the corners for an attempt to get there sooner. The goal is to finish the first and second lap under 17" and 34". If you're able to continue doing this, you should either barely scrape underneath the 52" goal, or even less. If not, you'll be given the chance to try (as long as there's still time in the day). Once you're satisfied with an accomplished time under Gwen's record, stop racing and wait for the next stage.
(Stage 4) Quite a while after setting a record below Gwen's (you can check in the Status screen of your journal to check your time, but once you do so, don't bother trying to go beyond that), Bob will return to your farm as you're taking care of your horse and challenge you to a race. His horse will be slow compared to yours, but should you lose the match, you can face him again on his days off (Thursdays) when he's on his farm. Winning against him will set his mind on letting your horse run in the competition, but Gwen has other ideas and challenges you this time. Losing to her will allow you to race her on Tuesdays when she's on the farm (in the morning time). To win against her, take the knowledge you used to beat her time to heart, sticking to the inner fence but keeping your speed up as well. The goal isn't to make her eat your dust but to maintain a constant match with her, as there should be some loose distance between the two of you for you to pull ahead after some curves.
(Stage 5) One week after beating Gwen, Bob will arrive and remind you that the horse race is approaching soon, one week left to go. A few days after that, Gwen will arrive showing some concern for your horse and give you a lucky charm, an aroma bag that will help the horse out.
(Stage 6) On the final day, two weeks after winning the races, Bob will come by to pick up your horse. It is a short, sweet scene where they depart to win for the sake of the homeland! The next day, both Bob and Gwen will arrive with the good news, and you will have your ending!
