How to unlock the Legendary achievement in Has-Been Heroes - Definitive Guide

Requirements:

-Open the purple chest at the end of a run with every character/skin. That's 36 heroes/skins after the initial 6 runs of unlocking each element/hero.
-Collect 209,000 souls to 223,000 souls. You can check this in the unlock screen at the main menu/pause menu. The Dev said 209,000 souls a long time ago, and that wasn't enough for me. I did 1 more run and got 12k souls and it unlocked, so I know it is within that range.
-Unknown what the other requirements are but you should have all of them just by doing the 2 things I listed. You DO NOT need to actually get or use all of the spells/items in the game. You just need to collect souls to unlock all of them.

How to collect souls:

-Overkill enemies using 500+ combos. Preferably 999x. You do that by constantly using the "Buff next melee 2x more hits" spell on the same character over and over again without attacking with them until you have a high enough combo.
-This is easier to do on the later worlds like 5-8 due to the longer battle timer. There are bosses that you can farm this on. The ones that don't move forward, just don't attack them and build your combo. This requires immunities to elements or a healer to survive.
-MOST IMPORTANT: You have to use your Soul Orbs to cast spells in order to collect souls!!!!!. If your soul orbs are full, like 20/20 then you are not collecting spells. So as souls are coming in and filling the orb, you have to constantly be clicking the RT or RB to cast spells to use the souls as they come in. Thankfully, just use it on the 2x spell and rebuild a major combo.
-KILL the crystal ball holding mother f-----s! They will suck up all of your souls and make all of your preparation and hard work for nothing. If you can't kill them before the attack animation ends on the 999x hit, freeze them! If they are frozen they won't suck up the souls =)
-To avoid the battle ending and you not collecting all the souls in time, keep 1 or 2 enemies alive and around. Slow them down with water puddles or freeze them. Portal spells that teleport them close to your characters are also a bonus. If you keep 2 around, mainly dependent on what spells you have, you can build another 999x multiplier up with the souls from your first attack, and repeat the process 1 more time.

Tips:

-Both spells and items are needed. DO NOT neglect either. Good spells can win runs. Good items can win runs. Having both in a run makes you overpowered and you should grind souls on those runs. If you have good spells but are missing items, you will lose. And vis versa.
-LT Speeds up the game!
-Having a variety of spells is always a good thing. There are ghost enemies in the game that you have to hit with either a water, fire, or poison spell so that you can then hit them with melee. So if they are immune to certain spell types, and those are the only spell types you have...you lose!
-Another reason to have a variety of elements/spells going off all the time, is different combinations do different things! Some slow enemies like fog or water puddles. Others cause you to freeze longer or do double spell damage. There is a guide on steam that details the different combinations. I never paid too much attention to this though. But a smarter person might see benefit to knowing the info.
-Look up a list of items and a list of spells to reference. Steam has a good items list which is all you really need. I got a spells list from some other website and it was only half complete. I don't think a complete spell list exists. But you will figure most of them out by looks before too long.
-Elemental immunities are great! Spread them around to try and get them on all characters even if it means you give an okay item on a character that won't benefit too much from it.
-Best heroes to grind souls with in my opinions late game if needed are Favian, due to healing, and either last skin crux or roho depending on your preference. They need to kill enemies fast or keep enemies away while you are having your 999x character attack animation go on forever.
-Build crit, crit damage, and spell cool down items on your 3x attack hero.
-Build magic spell damage, stamina damage on your 2x attack hero.
-Build %damage items, additional hit items, & High Crit % items on your 1x hero.
-You can hit yourself with spells! in order to activate the "on hit add +1 Hit and 50% damage" items.
-Shop rarity means nothing. You can get insanely good items from bronze, silver, or gold. It means nothing. So don't pass up bronze shops if you don't have to!

Most importantly, GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!

thanks for the guide, I love this Roguelite game a lot... finished with 32 characters so last character is close, with your guide my last run was over 20k souls....took a lot of time...

just to add to your guide, I´m using quitting method + deleting save file for getting more insight to see what´s in shops, choosing best routes and etc...

If you do that trick keep in mind:

- You don´t get new next map, if you kill bosses again.
- By doing this trick you can prevent what´s in the chest for Spell/Item gambling and find what you need with no extra cost.
- Spells and items in shops/vendors stay same.
- By this you can repeated going to Keymaster until master key is available for 150 gold. Good to get in fist map :)
- Rewards at altars is different each time you do it. By doing save trick you can get 40% spell recharge for each of your heroes.
- Rewards (Items) in chest stays but number of coins, keys and candles varies.
