How to unlock the Acheesement achievement in Hasbro Family Game Night 3 - Definitive Guide

Mouse Trap - Original - Quick - 1 Human / 1 CPU

I was having a lot of trouble with this achievement and becoming increasingly frustrated by the fact that the CPU or my 2nd controller seemed to always roll the perfect amount to cause me to become trapped and lose.

My solution was to hook up a Turbo controller with the repeat set up on the A button. Since everything in Mouse Trap is triggered by the A button the game will play itself and start a new quick game upon the completion of each game.

After watching some TV for a few hours I came back and found the achievement unlocked. Hope it helps!

The Turbo controller thing works pretty well with LIFE, too. The only downfall in that one is sometimes you will get put choosing 2 jobs instead of 1 and it doesn't time out so it will stay there indefinitely. But I got the 10 games of LIFE done this way. Thumbs up!

Nice guide, although not everyone has a Turbo controller, so it doesn't really help everyone. :P Regardless, I'll give it a thumbs up.

This one kind of takes a while because of all the games, this one's basically pure luck.

Yes. Although I actually enjoy playing these games with my kids, I don't enjoy achievements that depend on time and luck to unlock. I will, however, enjoy going to bed tonight knowing that I will be playing mousetrap in my sleep. Now if I could just get my turbo controller to win me 500,000 on Life... :/

You know, we should start a forum just for achievements that can be unlocked using a Turbo controller. ;)

This is one of those achievements where it's better to have 2 people going for it at the same time. That way for the most part, at least the game meant something if you don't win and your opponent does.

At least when one of you gets 10 wins, the other one can't be too far off.

Was just coming to post about using a turbo controller, but looks like I wasn't the only person with that idea, worked like a charm for me.

Nice solution! I set it up as recommended by blackboxrory and it took me around 4.5 hours running to get it completed.
Each game gives 2K to the winner and 1.5K to the loser. It also seemed to split the wins between the AI and me. So, I got the achievement with a total score of 33,500. The score shows at the end of each game - so to see how many games have been played so far, add up the two players' scores and divide by 3,500 (total points awarded each game.)

Yeah this game is rigged or something. There's no way I should be losing as often as I do, and it sounds like others are having the same issue. Out comes the Hori!

Ultimately getting this achievement is purely a matter of luck and patience; the die decides who will win, not you. But here are some tips to speed things up:

Only have one opponent (AI or human, doesn't matter, but AI plays faster so speeds it up a little). You have to trap all your opponents to win, but only one of them needs to trap you for you to lose. Also, more opponents means the game takes longer.

Play quick game. This doesn't speed things up much; as far as I can tell the only difference is that it takes the mad dog out of play, but it helps a little. (Edit: it also removes all of the spaces that make you and your opponent go back, which also speeds the game up. Credit to UKGN Luke for catching that.)

Learn the minigame well so you can build 3 parts at a time when you land on the trap piece spaces. This doesn't affect the outcome at all, but it gets the trap built faster, which speeds the game up. Once you have the parts lined up so that the ball will pass through all 3 traps, hold down the B button to speed up the ball's movement.

Don't bother turning the crank if it won't trap anybody. Just means you have to watch a useless animation that eats up time.

After that it's just a matter of rolling as fast as you can to get the game over quickly with either you or your opponent as the winner. Purely a matter of luck at that point.

If you want to leave the game before you have your 10 wins, be sure to choose "leave to plaza" first or it won't save the games you've won so far and you'd have to start over from scratch.

For those people that don't have a turbo controller and have to beat it the old fashion way, here is a tip to make the game play a little faster.
When playing the mini game if you press B the ball will move faster. This helps when you have your route laid out or just want to get the first piece faster.

**IMPORTANT** - Make sure if you take a break you back out to the plaza. If you don't it WILL NOT SAVE your games that you have won. So either get all 10 wins in one play through or make sure you back out to the plaza, so you don't have to play more games.

Also - to help speed things up, when the AI is moving you can hit A to skip the animation of them jumping from square to square.

I wish I read this yesterday. I got 8 wins in Mouse Trap and then my Xbox powered itself down. And I never knew about the B button trick.

Another way to get this quickly without a turbo controller is to manually press the a button yourself. Just get into the habit, I lay down and watched some TV while pressing the a button. Using this method, I got this in 2 sessions of popping in the disc.

Play a 2-player quick game of original Mouse Trap and try to get your player (the host) to be the winner at the end of the game. Rinse & repeat 10 times. After your 10th win, the trophy will pop!
