The easiest way to get this achievement is with 4 controllers (guitar, drums etc will do) Make sure you don't finish the game before sending 2 pawns from the other 3 colours back to the start. You can do this with a sorry card, landing on them or sliding through them.

I know this is an old game but can this be done with only 2 players in the game or must it be on a 4 player mode?

I'm really not sure and no longer able to check, sorry. Can you have 2 players and 2 AI in the same game? If so, I can't see why it wouldn't work.
