You can either get this legit based on luck or play with two controllers. Place the ships on the perimeter of the board and shoot around the edges. Put the destroyer (two peg holes) first to unlock another achievement at the same time. To get multiple achievements it is best and quickest to do this in Salvo.

Patrol Boat has 2 holes if I'm not mistaken. I think the destroyer has three.

Beginners Luck - 10G (Requires Battleship DLC)
Difficulty: 2/10
To get this Achievement, you must land a hit on your first turn.
This is easiest to do while playing with a 2nd controller. Simply place all of 2nd controller's pieces along the bottom row and up the left side in a giant "L". This way you wont forget where they are and you'll be able to blow them away in seconds.
