Play the mission on "Guerrilla" difficulty setting. This settinig can be changed in de the menu's of the game.
The game isn't that hard on guerilla, just use cover and when taking damage wait for 3 seconds to regain your health.
When you are fighting a big open area with dozens of enemies use the following strategy. Stay in the back, snipe of enemies. Let your team mates do the work for you. When you proceed, they will follow and shooting down the enemies they see. The game does not have a invisable line you need to cross before enemies stop respawning like in de the COD game series.
Sometimes it takes a few minutes before the enemies stop spawning but in the end the stop no matter where you are in the level. So just stay in the back and use cover when picking off enemies.

These two videos below offer some great commentary regarding the play of this first level on Homefront in Guerrilla difficulty. The standard tactics apply:
Use cover as much as possible, conserve your ammo (make each shot count), allow your health to fully recover before stepping out into the open again, etc...
The enemies in this game eventually stop respawning, unlike other popular titles. If you wait long enough behind some decent cover, your NPC's will eliminate the enemies if you're having trouble in a certain area.
I would not recommend searching for or working for any of the news collectibles during the Guerilla campaign, as some of them put you in direct fire to obtain them.
I would also not recommend attempting the 'Iron Man' achievements during the campaign, as Guerrilla difficulty is a beast, and you will die, despite experience and tactics.
This first level has 2 level specific achievements:
The Give Him the Stick achievement in Homefront worth 23 pointsKill 25 enemies with melee attacks in Chapter 1: Why We Fight
and
The Pistol Whipped achievement in Homefront worth 16 pointsKill 25 enemies with a pistol in Chapter 1: Why We Fight
which can be obtained with some effort during this playthrough. The achievements are accumulative, so dying and restarting an area will net you effort towards them. If is feasible to earn both in one run of this chapter because of the great chance of dying often.
