How to unlock the Precise achievement in How to Train Your Dragon - Definitive Guide

This is actually not as hard as it seems. I got this on my second try with the Deadly Nadder as my memorization subject both times, so the terminology for this guide is based on the Nadder.

You will be asked to remember a dragon's head, nose, wings, spine, tail, and color. The non-color options may vary slightly depending on dragon species, but regardless, the first five options are pretty easy.

The game gives you 180 seconds for three dragons, so you have a minute to get each one. This is plenty of time, actually. Once the first dragon starts walking out, take notice of just one or two pieces, and then press the Xbox Guide button. Write or draw what you remember on something in a way that's useful for you. For me, I found general terms like "bone spine" and "long nose" sufficient. Remember that "none" is an option for most features, and that does come up sometimes. Tap the Guide button again, let the dragon flash on your screen for maybe a second, then tap it again to write down the next piece(s). By doing this, you should have the non-color aspects of the dragon down within the first five or ten seconds. Putting them on the dragon will take another ten or fifteen seconds tops, which means you have around thirty seconds to get the color.

When trying to get the color exact, try and focus on a part of the dragon that you can see from the camera angle you're building from, so that you aren't factoring in light or body shape. For the Nadder, I used the cheek area next to its right (your left) eye. Remember that you can check the original dragon as much as you want, and skip through its animation as soon as you have a better idea of the color. It should take three or four checks to get the color right. The game is fairly demanding regarding the color, but with unlimited checks you should be able to get very close within the first couple adjustments and then spend just a few seconds fine-tuning. Remember that you will need to adjust brightness (RS) as well as hue (LS).

Just remember to be generous with the Xbox Guide button and use it whenever you need a second to recall something or de-stress. Like I said, only took me two tries with this method, and I found it much more reliable than using a photo (which often gets light levels incorrect and can only show one angle at a time). Good luck!

This can be quite annoying because of how hard it is to get the color right. I suggest taking a small dragon like Night Fury. When you first see the dragon, remember it's nose and head, after that remember the spine and wings, and lastly the tail. Note that some dragons may not have anything on their head, nose, tail or spine.

Getting the color right. There's only one tip I can give you. There is one spine part that isn't very visible and I haven't selected it numerous times. Just watch out for that part and make sure that you have selected the right types for other body parts.

Without a doubt this has to be one of the hardest achievements i've seen, its totally insane and no margin for error. The idea of matching a colour sounds easy but the slightest imperfection makes this achievement take hours. Ive been going so far for three hours and cant match more than two in a row with any dragon. Certainly not your average kids game.

just keep pressing B button to adjust minor details and the colors. Every time you press B the dragon will always walk around, if you press B again to skip you will see if your color is correct or not because it will change color quickly enough for you to know which one is.

I got close to the tv, took a pic of the dragon with my camera phone. Its hard to get a angle with all the parts, so you may have to take another look for a part. But doing this I did it on the first try.

Hope this helps.

In my opinion, this was the hardest of the expert challenge trophies. Because the bringing up the XMB washes out the colors, it is of little help here. I found attempting this challenge with the Deadly Nadder was the easiest, because it was easier to see the attributes and to distinguish between the colors. You should focus on correctly matching one attribute at a time bringing up the reference dragon as necessary. The hardest attribute to match hands down is the color.

One of the nastiest Expert trophies. Usually everything can be specified without problems, but with the selection of colors it’s a real problem. It’s easier to do it on monochromatic dragons (Night Fury), where you just need to roughly indicate the color (the spiketail has two shades, so it’s easier to make a mistake).
