How to unlock the Castle Guide achievement in Ico - Definitive Guide

I did this on my NG+ run, which is started upon continuing from the final save in your NG run.

I followed along (mostly) with this speedrun. Sorry about the crappy quality- it didn't look nearly as bad on my phone as it does on my PC:

I mirrored the run fairly closely, but there were a few parts that I couldn't replicate, even with nearby saves and multiple tries, so I had to improvise in a few places.

If you want to be able to watch in higher quality, this run seems similar:

Here are my save times/locations as I progressed:

Graveyard
18:06

Windmill:
25:06

Stone pillar
32:35

East Arena
38.34

Waterfall (slight detour to save when first arriving)
56:35

Waterfall (on the way back after water wheel jumps)
1:02:37

Water Tower
1:08:22

West Idol Stairs
1:16:01

Main Gate (final save after arriving and seeing the first cut scene)
1:26:15

I don't know my final time as the game doesn't create a save after completing NG+, but I had enough time from the final save to beat the game AND get the Watermelon ending, which added a minute or two to the final trek down the beach.

The current world record holder has a tutorial with commentary run here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvRaCdMwBoI

From my own attempts, I would recommend you not proceed with the final sequence if you're over 1:30 on the clock. I couldn't get the trophy to pop from a save with a 1:30:40 even with an outstanding clean and deathless ending sequence. I only got it when I cut my Main Gate save down to 1:27:01.

Use multiple save slots and go back to improve some older sequences if your Main Gate time is too high.

watch the speed walkthrough (in 10 parts) from here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0r_...layer_embedded , and repeat the same thing. The video shows tricks that are difficult to guess on your own. I recommend watching it step by step and repeating everything step by step so as not to miss any trick for shortcuts or saving time.

The main disadvantage of this trophy is that in these 2 hours in which you need to complete the game, ALL videos are included. Therefore, if possible, skip all pop-up screensavers, be it opening a door or reviewing a location. Also remember that the end credits, which last about 10 minutes, cannot be skipped, so the game itself must be completed in no more than 1:50:00.

As you progress, you can check the time with these marks:

SAVE 1 - Graveyard (00:15:23)

SAVE 2 - East Arena (00:33:23)
at the entrance
SAVE 3 - East Arena (00:40:51)
upon exit

SAVE 4 - Waterfall (00:47:45)

SAVE 5 - Water Tower (00:59:35)

SAVE 6 - West Idol Stairs (01:06:30)

SAVE 7 - Main Gate (01:16:41)

Final Time = 01:46:xx

A small but important tip. Don't even try to complete it in 2 hours if you have a Dualshock 4. At certain stick angles, Iko doesn't run, but slowly walks. These are precious seconds of movement and, most importantly, the inability to escape from demons in some places. Dualshock 3 doesn't have this problem.

Don’t be too lazy to save in the wildmill (mill) immediately after the graveyard, it won’t take much time and will make your life much easier, since Yorda and her friends often behave inappropriately in the sewers, and not everyone can do the grate trick on the first try, so It’s easy to mess things up and lose a couple of precious minutes

For those suffering to complete the game on speed run, who are faced with two problems:

1) The only place with a very high and very difficult jump up from the stone “pusher” is right next to the place where you pick up the “spike mace” / “shining sword”, so jumping is not at all difficult!!! After the lever is activated, and the stone begins to move up and down in jerks, you climb onto it, no matter where exactly you stand on it, the main thing is to face the wall/lattice, further, before the stone goes down, and then sharply throws Aiko high up, then the pusher stone always shakes; at the very moment when the stone begins to shake, you need to hold it and not let go and Aiko jumps without any problems 100% of the time!

2) Fight with the Queen - remember, the Queen ALWAYS repels Aiko's sword after it hits her in the same places: a) up to the right, close to the Queen - Aiko calmly runs away; b) down to the left far from the Queen - Aiko manages to run, the main thing here is to be close to the sword, since the sword has a decent protective field around itself; c)up to the left, close to the Queen - Aiko calmly runs up; d) to the left in the middle of the Queen, he will stick into the wall - Aiko calmly runs up; e) far, far into the middle of the room - Aiko will never reach the curb and die, it is imperative to hide behind the statue that stands on the right, and then pull it towards the sword (preferably all the way until it hits the curb - this way Aiko will 100% protect himself when run after the sword).

in this video the time is 1:33 and it is not from the HD version on PS3. The minimum difference is that in addition to large blots, there are also small ones - which they cannot drag away, but do not allow to be saved, because Iko is in a fighting stance with them and Yorda does not sit on the sofa. and this is already additional time to kill. and in some places, when transitioning between levels, Iko does not stand in the right places, but, for example, jumps off the ledge. Perhaps all sorts of time delays are also different... but there may be few differences between different games. here for our version the time is quite real without ten hours of training

Graveyard (00:16:50)
Windmill (0:23:20)
East Arena (00:34:26) at the entrance
East Arena (00:42:30) upon exit
Waterfall (00:56:48)
West Idol Stairs (01:10:43)
Main Gate (01:23:12)
The credits run for 10 minutes, another 1:30 to carry the watermelon and then you have to eat it for almost 45 seconds. you can save about a minute and a half on watermelon

if you are sure that you do not need a spare minute from the sewer, or if you pass it with a trick on the first try, then you may not save between Graveyard and East Arena. but even Graveyard is not the most pleasant place, so I would still prefer to take a save in Windmill. I myself was guided by the guide without the trick in the sewer, but for some reason the player wasted time on many saves (he missed only one, if I’m not mistaken) and even then he made it.

High-quality (up to 1080p) and more realistic video walkthrough - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqnS8Z1z0So Most likely you will be able to complete it a little faster.

This is exactly the PS3 version of the HD re-release of the ICO.

The save times correspond to the relatively "dirty" SpeedRun (1:57:00), bypassing the sewer trick (be careful, just kill the ghosts).

"Clean" SpeedRun (1:46:00) here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbDwPIjqxGM&hd=1 It was created from it.

In front of the main gate, it is advisable not to get out before 1:25:00 . Maximum 1:29:00
