THE EASY METHOD

The other solutions are great if you want tips on how to beat the game on formidable.

However, if you want to get the achievement in the fastest and easiest way possible, play the game in easy. That's right. Confused? Read on.

Play each level on easy, and when you get to the last checkpoint follow these steps.

Hit start, and press save last checkpoint. Then return to headquarters.

Hit start, game options and change the difficulty from easy to formiddable. Then press start to save, and quit to the title screen.

Now, reload your campaign, but instead of returning to headquarters load last checkpoint. This will put you where you are, but on formidable.

Now you only need to beat the final checkpoint and the level counts as complete on formidable..

When the level is finished, change difficulty back to easy and carry on with the next mission.

Just repeat this for every mission. The game checks the difficulty at the end of the level for your achievement progress.

Here are some points to hit save last checkpoint.

1) When you take control of War Machine
2) After you exit the ships bridge, defeat the Armigar and then walk past him through the door. This is the last checkpoint.
3) Fighting Crimson Dynamo
4) Fighting the Proteon
5) Protecting the plane for the second time
6) When the armigar is around 30% health
7) When you have to disable GreenGrid
8) The fifth section, when War Machine has to take the head shot.

As mentioned in the other solution you can do a playthrough on any difficulty (I'd recommend easy), and unlock all the upgrades, and then use those upgrades on Formidable.

The trick is after your easy playthrough, while in the headquarters, hit Start, go to "Game Options", and then "Difficulty", and pick "Formidable". Then play through each of the 8 levels. I don't know if it matters if you do them in order or not, I did them in order. Note that after finishing the last level you'll get the achievement (at the score summary screen), and also note that difficulty achs in the game stack, so if you don't already have it you'll get the normal difficulty playthrough achievement at the same time as this one.

As for tips: I'd *strongly* recommend using War Machine whenever possible, giving him dual miniguns, with armor piercing rounds, and the ultimate module. For Iron Man, use the Ultimate Iron Man suit, and do dual lasers, with the repulsor & homing missiles as your alternate (though I never really used these). Again, upgrade the weapons with ultimate module, and either armor piercing rounds. With these setups you'll find the vast majority of your Formidable playthrough trivial.

The only level where this setup doesn't help alot is level 5, when you're forced to play with a limited Iron Man setup. I found the key to this level was to hit B whenever near any of the enemies you could reprogram. Once you've reprogrammed all the baddies you can, then focus on the level objective bad guys with your unibeam. Might take a couple tries, but is very doable.

Level 7 I thought was the hardest, only because most of the mounted cannons are 1-hit kills. The key is to just be patient, and progress slowly through the level. Let the bad guys come to you, wipe them out with the dual miniguns, then charge ahead a bit to take out the towers.

Compared to the same achievement in Iron Man 1, this one was a breeze.
