As soon as one shows up, start firing at its helmet. When he turns his back, shoot at the red/orange pack that is on the back. It may take a couple of tries before the pack explodes.

Good guide - it took me three rounds of shooting at his head then back for him to go down on the easiest difficulty while crouched behind the short wall immediately on your left as you enter the area where he spawns. I did try being clever and strafing round him, but that got me nowhere!

You will find the Heavy in the Blood Meridian level, Heavy Canal checkpoint. You can't miss him. Shoot his head (big helmet with lots of spikes on it), he will turn around. Rush up to him and empty your clip in his back.
