How to unlock the Crime Doesn't Pay achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - Definitive Guide

Before going for this achievement, I recommend creating a new save file that you can return to after you have unlocked it. But, that's completely your call.

To be able to spend money on crime bribes, you need to have a guard approach you after you committed a crime. Crimes include looting items that are red, pickpocketing and striking innocents/guards.

Once you have accumulated 10,000 gold (or a little extra) return to Gorhart and swing one of your weapons at one of the guards standing around. When you do, you will get the option to enable Aggressive Mode by hitting cn_up. Then, strike a guard. That guard will then immediately confront you and give you the option to (a) go to jail, (b) resist arrest or (c) pay a fine. Choosing to go to jail will let you get:

But, for the Crime Doesn't Pay achievement you are going to select to pay the fine, which should be around 900 gold. Once you've paid, the guard will start to walk away and you will still be in Aggressive Mode. Hit the guard again, pay the fine, rinse and repeat until you've spent 10,000 gold on bribes.

Depending on your level, eventually you may kill the guard, which will result in a roughly 3000 gold bribe, which is why it is best to have a little extra as a cushion.

If you have extra gold (35,000 - 40,000) you can keep doing this on repeat to also get:

A good place to knock out 3, and even make progress toward another 2 achievements and get a backpack in one go, if you have plenty of gold:

How I got this on 360 recently: When you've completed the siege on Mel Senshir, attack the merchant on the left of your spawn, press up ^ on the d-pad, and continue attacking him til he dies (make sure you don't knock him too far from his spawn or he might clip through the map on respawn and there go your infinite backpacks and come back in 2 ingame days for a new backpack. Run before the guards can catch you.

Turn 180° and there will be a hallway leading to the docs. along the way are dozens of soldiers you should be able to handle at level 50. If you have ice trap (Finesse tree) as well, this is one place to kill enemies with traps.

However, a supporting character, forgot the name, in green armor is invincible. This is a good place to do your 100 parries and 25 special attacks out of parry (requires points on the furthest left column of tbe Might tree).

When you've had enough, head back where you came from and let the guards catch you. your fee will be exorbitant. mine was around 400,000.

Teleport somewhere with a bed, sleep for 2-3 days, and return and the merchant should've respawned with a new backpack! If not, load up a save. He won't be coming back and you got your achievements and wasted gold anyway.
