How to unlock the Diamond in the Rough achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - Definitive Guide
This achievement is unlocked when you use a sagecraft altar to strengthen two lambert gems of the same type and combine them into one pristine gem. You must be at sagecraft level 3 in order to do this.
Shards are commonly found as loot or can be purchased relatively inexpensively from many merchants. They come in three varieties--cloudy, lambert, and pristine. Cloudy shards can be strengthened into lambert shards while lambert shards can be strengthened into pristine shards. It takes two of the lower quality shard to combine into the higher quality shard. Pristine shards cannot be strengthened since they are already at the highest level.
Provided you have the requisite shards and are at sagecraft level 3, approach a sagecraft altar. Press to interact with it. Choose, "Craft Gems," the first of three selection items. Then, scroll down to the bottom of five items, "Strengthen Shards" and select it. This brings up your list of shards. Choose any type of lambert shard (you must have a quantity of two or more) and select it for strengthening. You create a pristine shard and unlock the achievement as shown in the 30 second video below:
Even if you have no desire to invest skill points in sagecrafting when you level up, you can still reach a sagecrafting level of 3. There are two sagecrafting trainers in the City of Ysa--Savant Raina Njorn and Viscount Setter. Viscount Setter is found by checking your local map. Savant Raina Njorn is in Delving Hall and you must first get the key from the nearby Scholia Arcana Embassy in order to enter. Each of these trainers will provide you with a sagecrafting skill point in exchange for 15,120 gold. A third sagecrafting point can be acquired by reading a sagecrafting skill book found as a hidden item in a well just before you get to St. Hadwyn's Mission in the northwest border of Glendara.

Note: If you don't have any or enough lambert shards but plenty of cloudy shards, you can strengthen cloudy shards to craft the lambert shards you need.

Hi hunters !
There is an easy 5 minutes way to get this endgame if you did not while playing, i will be pairing it with :
Save your clean game, like if you were going to leave,
Teleport to Ayten, just north of Ysa, it's small and there is everything we need,
Enter the pub in front of you to find Fateweaver Kellis Cen, pay to reboot everything,
In the level up menu, max out Blacksmithing & Sagecrafting and random the rest,
Total random your skills points as well, unfortunately you need to spend all to confirm.
Go out, enter the healing shop at your right, find the sagecraft workbench,
Select Craft Gems, Strengthen Shards, choose a color and use them all you should have quite a lot of shards endgame (they disapear when they go perfect don't worry)
Achievement Diamond in the rough !
Select Epic Gems now, and craft one with your perfect shards ,
Achievement Romancing the gem !
Go out, enter the smith shop on the other side of the place, find the blacksmith workbench,
Select Craft, find anything you can craft with the 5 logos alight, the last bonus logo will use the gem we just made together,
Double Achievement Shop class & Master of the Forge !
Press start, then LOAD GAME, you don't want to save, load your last manual save we made together at the very beginning to find yourself all ready to continue your Amalur exploration ! With 4 achievements out
Have a nice one, Nhox

This achievement requires a skill of 3 in Sagecrafting to unlock. Once you have that, head to an altar and begin trying to combine different shards you've looted to that point and see what the outcome will be. You don't have to commit right away, so you'll be able to back out if it doesn't equate to a Pristine quality shard. Once you find a combo that works, finish the creation to unlock the achievement. If you don't have anything right when you get to skill 3, keep playing and looting and try again later.
