How to unlock the Gatekeeper achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - Definitive Guide

Note: This task appears to be a quest.

Correction: It appears this task in NOT a quest as other are unlocking the achievement for completing all quests without turning in all of the hearts.

However, you will need to turn them in if you want this achievement.

You will close 7 portals as part of the story of the Fatesworn DLC in Mithros. Before you fight the final boss you should close all of the portals which will appear on the map. Once you close the last portal the achievement will unlock.

Report back to Argarth and turn in the Hearts and it will mark the Heart of Chaos quest as being complete and will get a message saying the quest has been completed.

If you choose to close the portals after the story, he is nowhere to be found as far as I can tell and therefore cannot turn in the Hearts.

After the main story he travels back to Rathir Cormorant (?). The quest marker for "New horizons" shows where he is.

Do you have to turn in the hearts to Argath for this achievement to unlock? i somehow got the achievement for all the side quests so I'm unsure if i close the portals in the save file after the boss or before the boss

It seems you don't have to do that.

This achievement is tied to the tracker reading 100% rather than unlocking the Twist of Fate card for the 25th portal. As of March 2023, the tracker was being buggy for me and not always increasing after closing a portal. To be safe, I started creating manual saves before entering each portal and then checking the tracker after closing them and receiving the Twist of Fate card. You get 4% for each portal closed, so if your tracker does not increase or equal 4x the number on the Twist of Fate card, you'll need to quit the game completely, relaunch, and load the manual save to run the portal again. I've never had to run a portal more than twice before the tracker updates, but it is very frustrating!

As mentioned in the Road Map, you will close seven of these portals during the story quests for the DLC. The other 18 are found in the map area of the base game, and can be tackled at any time. However, I'd suggest making sure you visit a Fateweaver and redistribute your skill points to max out Chaos Sight so the portals and all the rifts are visible on the map. It's also a good idea to do these after the story and wear the full Hope of the Fatesworn armor set to have maximum bonuses against the enemies inside.

To close a portal, you first need to close any minor rifts attached to it. Depending on your skill level in Chaos Sight, the rifts and portals will be available on the map for you to easily locate, otherwise it's a bit of a pain to track them down. Kill any chaos enemies near a rift, then close it to weaken the portal. Each portal can have between 2-5 rifts associated with it, and you'll see this when you get close to the portal. Once all the associated rifts are destroyed, you can enter the portal.

The portals themselves are randomly generated dungeons. You will need to make your way to the Chaos Node at the end of the dungeon and destroy it to complete the dungeon and close the portal. The node is always guarded by a large enemy and a slew of other smaller ones, but if you simply target the node and destroy it, you'll be teleported out and can skip that fight (unless you need the XP). That actually goes for the entire dungeon, since this is extremely repetitive and time consuming, I'd suggest running past every enemy in the dungeon unless you have to defeat them to activate a lever from some of the doors that block your progress.

One example of closing a portal can be seen below.
