If you get to this part and look back just quit to the main menu right away then continue and don't look back after you leave the room with the painting.

Can you do this too fast and fail? I missed this on my initial (blind) play through and when I just tried it again from chapter select she got me again, even though all I did was just continue moving forwards the whole time.

Yes you can definitely miss this. I think part of the trigger is to look at the words for a few seconds.

Maybe this guide should be updated to include that information then? I just did what you said when specifically trying for this from chapter select (didn't slow down or stop and look at it) and it failed for me even though I didn't turn. The walkthrough (which I didn't use on my first play through) does suggest to move slowly forward at this part, so I guess I'll try that next time...

Just a quick note, you will also trigger the jumpscare-and-death if you just move your character backwards without changing view. I saw the words, moved backwards a bit to get them better-centered, and the jumpscare went off.

I turned around on my first playthrough. Can I get this on my second playthrough or via chapter select?

The jumpscare made me fail this.
My soul intention was to continue walking, but the window next to me exploded, scared the crap out of me, threw my controller in fear, it landed upside down, character turned, died!
