So it still pops even if you don't get all 120 fireflies?

Yes, the fireflies are a separate achievement.

I mean in this ending, you use the 120 fireflies to paint pictures of the new world, would that still happen if you didn't collect all 120 fireflies?

I did it without all the fireflies, as far as I know, you don't need any to unlock this achievement.
